Please also send your /etc/X11/XF86Config, and also Cc the mailing list
with this. It doesn't do me any good to solve your problem if their
isn't a public record so others can learn from the same experience.

it was an error, i am not so used to mutt yet;) resent as you saw.

attached the XF86config-4

thx for looking at this.

2002-01-19 Thread MPfeifer

hi guys,

since the upgrade to woody X doesn't function properly anymore. when
doing startx i get the message:

Addscreen/Screeninit failed for driver 1

couldn't find anything useful on google for this.
anyone has an idea what it could be?

thx

Re: Kernel 2.4.16

2001-12-05 Thread MPfeifer

Excellent, so you have a work around ~:^) Seriously, the kernel
version will only give you better performance (depending on what the
processor is), and who really needs that? Anyway, this sounds like

what do you mean with depending on what the processor is?
does NFS not work very well on ie sparc?

this is a bit OT, but i heard that NFS on linux has bad performance
anyway. someone with experience here? coda might be better?

netscape

2001-10-20 Thread MPfeifer

hi guys,

in our free internetworkplace we have a few old sparcs, which we just
upgraded to wooody, to do bugreports and testing, but netscape doesn't
work anymore, because it requires libstdc++.so.2.8 which is too old for
woody.

i googled around and all i found, was downgrade! ;)

this can't be true. is it? in that case we might indeed use potato again,
as mozilla is too slow for sparc5. and the recent faster mozilla's are
not available for sparc. neither galeon.

anyone advise?

thx

Re: netscape

2001-10-20 Thread MPfeifer

Either install mozilla, or downgrade. I use the latest mozilla (0.9.5)
on several workstations, and it's pretty good (even do my banking online
with it). I'd even say it's better than Netscape 4.x.

yes but slower. much slower on a sparc5.
anyway i installed konqueror and opera now, and they work quite well, even
if it is not very ideal. but at least now we can run woody AND people can
surf the web;)

thx for the hints.
