netra LOM serial port
I got a rack mount netra off of ebay recently, but i can't seem to get into the firmware console. I have an rj-45 - db-9 adapter and a db9-db9 null modem cable. I'm using 9600 8n1, and i've tried w/ and w/o flow ctrl. I tried sending break and hitting enter and it doesn't respond, even when it's powered up. I've also tried a attaching to the rj45-db9 a cable with and w/o a null modem adapter. Am i missing something? -- Tom Vier [EMAIL PROTECTED] DSA Key ID 0x15741ECE -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: Using ReiserFS on raid1 devices (except /boot) advise anyone ??

But, is it OK/Safe to use reiserFS on the other partitions? make /boot ext2 and you can have a raid1 root. the debian installer has problems setting up persistent superblocks, though. i recommend installing to a sparce drive, then making the arrays, copy everything other, and install silo. i've used reiserfs on sparc for a while. never had any problems. i didn't stress it much, though. i haven't tried raid on sparc, but it should be endian clean (i think i've run it on ppc). -- Tom Vier [EMAIL PROTECTED] DSA Key ID 0x15741ECE

Re: Ultra 5 SSH/Ethernet Lockup
fwiw, i haven't had any lockups, but ssh'ing from my 270mhz ultra5, it takes much longer for the passwd prompt to appear than it does from even an old 166mhz pentium. -- Tom Vier [EMAIL PROTECTED] DSA Key ID 0xE6CB97DA
how do i override bad atyfb values in silo?
i was trying to switch my ultra5 from the default high res (it's hard to read), to a low, by putting append=video=atyfb:xres:800,yres:600 in silo.conf. unfortunetly, this video mode doesn't work. is there any way to override the kernel args? i tried xres:0,yres:0, but that didn't work. -- Tom Vier [EMAIL PROTECTED] DSA Key ID 0xE6CB97DA
where's sparc64-linux-gcc for 2.4.21-pre7?
i tried to build 2.4.21-pre7 on my ultra5 (i just installed debian stable) and it wants to use sparc64-linux-gcc to build it. i searched all packages, but nothing seems to provide it. what version of gcc can i safely use to build it? -- Tom Vier [EMAIL PROTECTED] DSA Key ID 0xE6CB97DA
