Re: cd boot fails: kernel can't find root fs
Hi, thanks for answering. AFAIK is a SS20 a 32Bit-processor, but the image=/boot/sparc32.gz with all the other options doesn't work. Also with the initrd=/debian/dists/stable/main/disks-sparc/current/images-1.44/root.bin option. so I don't think that this is the point. Do you have any other ideas? TIA, Christophorus
Re: cd boot fails: kernel can't find root fs
I have the same problem with my SS20 and I have no floppy attached. I tried all the hints listed here, for example the "image=/boot/sparc64 initrd=/debian/dists/stable/main/current/images-1.44/root.bin" option but it always fails the install process with "..can't mount root fs...". Any clues? TIA, Christophorus
SCSI-Tape
Hi there, I am trying to get an external dds-scsi-tape running on my ss20. I have been trying that for a long time an there is no way to do anything with it. I have a properly installed woody with scsi-tape support enabled. The tape is terminated correctly and the mt-tools are also installed successfully. But everytime I even try an "mt status", there is the message: # st0: Error 2b (sugg. bt 0x0, driver bt 0x0, host bt0x0) It is all the same with the /dev/nst0. But when doing a scsiinfo -l the drive is shown correctly. Any clues? tia, Christophorus
hint to installing non-debian-images
Oh, I forgot: Of course, there are debian-packages but they are not on a debian mirror! Christophorus
install non-debian packages
Hi there, I got a big Problem: I want to install Packages that are not on a debian-mirror onto a machine that is not connected to the internet. It is not that easy with downloading the packages and burning them on a CD. Do I have to import the directory structure of a debain mirror onto the CD or do I need a kind of contents-file? Anyone got a clue? TIA, Christophorus
newer version lic6
Hi there, I got a big problem. I just apt-get updated and upgraded my woody system and it wanted to update 4 packages. While doing that the process broke with dpkg-error-code(1) while extracting libc6-sparc64. Now I cannot install anyting new because of "unmet dependencies" It always advises me to do a apt-get -f install without arguments, but it always stops witz error code (1). I got a SS20. AFAIK these are no 64Bit-Processors. So I am wondering why it needs libc6-sparc64 and -dev- version of libc6-sparc64. Anyone got an idea? Thanks in advance, Christophorus
ar

kernel panic druing cd boot
I just downloaded debian woody isos and tried to install it to a Sparcstation 20. It is no problem to boot from the CD, but all the time it wants to mount the root fs, it tries to mount it via NFS, but that does not work. So it says: trying to mount root fs via floppy. But there is no floppy drive attached. Isn't there any possibility to mount an install system from the cd? It is the first time that I install a debian and it is also the first time that I install a sparc. Please, watch me as a newbie and answer in easy understandable sentences. Thanks in advance. Chris
