RE: Debian on a Sun Blade 1500

Don't give up quite yet Todd.  You may wanna try the
latest d-i images for sarge.  I had luck with them on my SunBlade
1500.

http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/

I used the July 8th image, but I think the images that have
been released since them are functional.

The only issue I had was with the keybaord mapping.  I
had to wing it through the first part of the install, but within 30 minutes I
had a functional sarge install!

Debian on a Sun Blade 1500

Good Afternoon
everyone,

I hope someone can help.I am
trying to install SPARC Debian on a Sun Blade 1500. I have tried
debian-30r1-sparc-binary-1.iso, debian-30r2-sparc-binary-1.iso, the net install
sarge disk, and the businesscard image, but none will boot. It comes up with the
screen welcoming you to Debian and press Enter to start
the install. I press enter start the and the machine
displays this message "loading initial ramdisk" and
then reboots. I have tried other linux on it and they
don't even get that far. If anybody can help it would be much
appreciated.

Some of the images successfully
allocate the ram, load the initial ramdisk and then
just lock up when it says “ remapping the
kernel”

Please help! I want Debian on the
box. I may have to give up and use that “G” linux…
uggg

Thanks,

I hate to spam the list with all of this, but It may be
helpful if anyone else is trying to do this.
I had success today with the businesscard.iso from here:

http://cdimage.debian.org/pub/cdimage-testing/daily/sparc/current/

It will at least boot on my Sunblade 1500.  The only issue I
see right now is that eth0 isn’t getting link, and ‘ifconfig eth0
up’ fails.

As an update to this I went to http://june.voxel.net/~joshk/ and
tried the CD from 07-07-2004.
This cd boots, loads the ramdisk, then when it says its booting the linux
kernel the box reboots.

Sunblade 1500 and Sarge Installer

2004-07-07 Thread ryan_terry

I’ve just spent the last week reading through the
archives and trying various methods to get debian on my Sunblade 1500.

At this point I have still not succeeded, but am getting
closer.

I read through May’s (May 2004) list and came across
two mini-iso images that I was finally able to boot from without initrd issues.

http://june.voxel.net/~joshk/mini.iso

--Boots, but Kernel Panic on mounting rootfs.

http://june.voxel.net/~joshk/d-i/images/2004-06-04/cdrom-mini.iso

--Makes it through initrd, but when loading
kernel it reboots.

I have tried appending the rootfstype=ext2 option to the
first iso, but it doesn’t seem to make a difference.  I was wondering if
there was any more information on this issue, or if a novice like myself could
be of any assistance to the folks that are working on this.
