Blade2K and qla2xxx

2007-06-18 Thread seb
Hi,

I have a problem to report.
Kernel 2.6.18 is the last kernel working with the Blade 2000 I was trying to
run.

Kernel 2.6.22-rc5 I just recompiled oops at disk detection :

I'm copying the oops by hand since I got no serial output:

I have experienced some issue when connecting VOIP to PSTN.
This behaviour is almost always caused by important jitter on the line.

Try to do a ping a look at the average round-trip.
Then look at the value that are quite outside the mean time.
Look at how often they occurs and how big they are.
I had around 40ms round-trip with jitter up to 3300ms.

This cause echo on the line, delays and slow start - peers doesn't hear
you the first 10 secondS.

All are caused by a poor quality Internet connexion.

You can try to use the tos parameter. set it with iptables.

Maybe

I'm not vonage customer so I can't say.
Sometimes carriers sell you an option called fast-ping that lower the
round-trip (useful for online gaming). This one helps a lot.

My two cents.

Well, I'm not arguing that the fix is a wrong fix.

I'm seeing that, on sparc64-smp arch with debian etch, this patch causes
a very strange sideeffect I was describing in my first mail.

The boot hangs, the cursor (in the framebuffer) stops blinking, nothing
is displayed, and the machine seems frozen until I hit a key or a button
mouse (which is on sparc causing the same interruption), and then the
machine resume the boot sequence as if nothing really happened.

I've been able to isolate that line to be the origin of this behaviour
but it could be as well a bug revealed by this modification.

Weird kernel 2.6.17.[67] behaviour

2006-07-26 Thread seb
I got a perfectly workable kernel 2.6.17.1 using mkinitramfs on my U60.

I applied 2 days ago the patches to update the kernel to the 2.6.17.7.
And to my surprise when rebooting, the boot process hanged for now
reason.

More surprising is that when boot continues if I press one key on the
keyboard or one button on the mouse.

The hangs happens several times in the start process and each time the
boot resume when I press a key or a button.

I never saw such a behaviour and was looking forward the change that
caused this.

It is not the compiler since it is the same version used for building
the 2.6.17.1 and this one is working.

It is not the mkinitramfs tools since I tried the yaird to regenerate a
new initrd and it hangs in the same way.

Can you shed some lights on this dark corner of linux ?

I'd rather look at the hardware. That kind of problem smells like ram
chip or control gone berserk.

Support for Hardware crypto accelerator 1000 from SUN

2006-04-28 Thread seb
Hello lists readers,

I have a PCI card from SUN labeled SUN-crypto accelerator 1000.

Looking at the web, I found some mention of a linux driver from RedHat
for old kernel (like 2.4.18).
They seems to have been removed from newer kernel.

What happened to those drivers ?
Is there any support for this hardware under debian ?

Entropy Pool on U60

2006-04-28 Thread seb
Hello,

I observed some strange behaviour on my U60.

Whenever I ask to generate a key (like using the dnssec-keygen),
the system takes age to answer.

stracing it show that is sits idle waiting for the entropy pool
to fill up enough randomness to generate a key.

I saw in the proc pool that the pool is filling byte by byte using

Is there a way to fill up this pool with a daemon or something ?

I didn't see any source of hardware randomness on the U60.
Is there such a device ?

Thanks for the information.

Indeed they are. Does the patch assume that cpus are numbered in a
row ?
Now, I reverted the patch for ip_tables.c, ip6_tables.c and ebtables.c.
Everything is working ok (11h uptime).

Is this problem specific to the Ultra 60 or sparc arch ?
Will a proper fix be issued for our machines ?

mkinitrd, udev, LVM and 2.6.13

2005-07-22 Thread seb
Hi,

I tried to boot 2.6.13-rc3 yesterday only to realize that devfs was
removed from OPTIONS.

The solution is to use udev. However, I need an initrd to since the box
I used is full LVM (but the /boot partition).

mkinitrd does not takes care of the udev usage (or in a way I can't
figure).

Is there any dev done in mkinitrd to use the udev ?

I had a look at the feudora but they are using nash which is really
speciallized in this tasks and unavailable for debian.

Is there any workdaround to boot with lvm but without devfs ?

I used to have this error when booting from U5 and not having performed

Yes, you can buy a board separately. The march prices says :
RILOE II (remove Integrated lights out II) costs 374 euros

2.6.12.x-smp on U60

2005-07-20 Thread seb
Hi,
I tried for a few weeks to make my U60 2x300mhz with 1.5gb of ram to
boot with 2.6.12 and 2.6.12.x.

Unfortunately, if the kernel seems to boot ok, I got a kernel panic when
doing a iptables load active.

Inserting the connection tracking module provokes an unrecoverable
kernel panic.

The 2.6.11.6 kernel was perfectly fine.

Does anyone had this problem ?
