RE: Debian on Compaq ProLiant 800 servers

2004-05-21 Thread Davin Carter
I have installed linux on a Proliant 800 and 1850R. If you are not using a
smart array controller, then you should not need the smart start CD. I have
ecountered ethernet lockups using the on board tlan ethernet controller. I
use a good PCI ethernet such as Intel Eepro100. I have seen 20 1850s with
dual 450s run for a year straight. If your install hangs while probing for
keyboard and mouse, it is hanging on semi-existant USB hardware. Boot with
linux nousb to avoid the usb hangup.

You should probably try debian-user list. This list is for sparc/sparc64
CPU's.

Debian on Compaq ProLiant 800 servers

2004-05-19 Thread Craig Ian Dewick

Hi everyone,

APANA Sydney has obtained a Compaq Proliant 800 server with dual P2-450's
which we want to use to replace our aging and increasingly-flaky P-100
system.

We don't have access to the special CD which contains drivers for Compaq's
custom ethernet hardware and are wondering if there are ways to work
around that limitation?

Are there any online FAQ's catering specifically for Debian on Compaq
ProLiant servers available that we can use for reference?

Regards,

Craig.
