Re: Debian on Sun Enterprise 250
Sorry the last mail went privately... 1. Maybe you can issue a bugreport to debian install team. 2. And you can upgrade from Sarge to Etch:) 3. I installed debian on a E250 successfully. But I can't remember what d-i I used. Maybe it was the snapshot one. Cheers! Debian-sparc Etch is detecting my keyboard as a type 5 but i have a type 6 keyboard on my sun 250. anyone have an idea how i can force to detect keyboard type=6 settings during bootup on SILO ? thanks, -b On Tue, Sep 2, 2008 at 10:44 AM, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Sounds like a dirty keyboard try another and see if it does the same > thing. Re: Debian on Sun Enterprise 250
thanks for the reply gerry. I tried to setup debian via TEXT mode install. I was successfull but the darn keyboard just doesn't let me install because as soon as i select an option and hit enter the keyboard will just go haywire and all I see is the screen is scrolling. i can sometimes stop it with just one hit on the back-space key. but after picking the next station, it does the same thing. -b -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Re: Debian on Sun Enterprise 250
I had similar problem with 220r, what I did was to do command line installation and not load the video drivers. It worked fine with Webmin and I am using it for a webserver. I just could not get the video card drivers to load propperly. Gerry > hi guys, > > I'm having some problems with the setup installer for debian 4.0.4a > (etch) for sparc. Good point. Our E250 here was installed with Suse Linux years ago before I came along and started using Debian everywhere. [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ > uptime 11:25am up 173 days, 23:11, 2 users, load average: 5.62, 6.58, 6.76 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ > uname -a Linux aerosmith 2.4.19 #1 SMP Tue Aug 6 15:47:06 GMT 2002 sparc64 unknown It's only ever rebooted on the rare occasion that I upgrade the kernel. It's our mail server & is rock solid stable. We've also got 2 x E450's and an E420 which are also rock solid stable. I don't think you'd want to use the E250 as a desktop device because Linux does not support the environment monitoring system on these machines, so the fans run at full speed all the time rather than switching to low speed. For us, this doesn't matter as they are all cabinet mounted. -- Ian Cass

Yup, AFAIK the E250 is really just a tower version of an UE2 (UltraEnterprise 2), I think even the same motherboard, which I have and it works great, but I only have the dual 300s. Wah. Really nice machine with Debian 3.0 on it. The machine is so loud when running that you can't stay with 10 feet of it, so naturally I don't use the video at all. a

You probaly ment SunOS 5.7 which is Solaris 7. What do you expect from Debian GNU/Linux and what services should that machine provide?
