Re: XFree not starting any more linux-2.4.28-SMP, U60 SMP
I've been using 2.4.27 since August: no problems until now, except by the fact that I can't reach console from X typing "Ctrl+Alt+Fx" (x=1,2,3,...). Good to know that in 2.4.28 X is not working. Sometimes the better is to wait! If I were you I would come back to 2.4.26 or 2.4.27. Dear listmembers, fiddling around leaves me with no clue about the root cause for XFree to not start any more. Removing all unrequired modules does not help. It is not due to a missing afbinit, I can hardly detect any change, the boot messages look highly similar. If there is anybody out there testing with 2.4.28 I would appreciate getting a commentary on this. For everybody else it seems wise to stay with 2.4.26; about 2.4.27 I have no knowledge. I have more or less the same problem, but with the 2.6 series. With 2.6.6 and before xserver-xfree86 does start, with 2.6.8 and up it won't start anymore. (But perhaps our logfiles and the actual errors are different.) However, if I use the X server from xserver-xfree86-dbg, X does start (at least on 2.6.9). I believe I've filed a bug for that, but I can't seem to find it anymore. I'll check again tomorrow, when I have access to my machine again. Best regards Admar
RE: XFree not starting any more
Dear listmembers, dear Jörg, cd /; find . -name "X.log" brought no information, so I took the boot-logging out of /var/log/messages. Perhaps this helps to find out what is going on here. I have the same graphics card as you have, Jörg, but afbinit loads nicely, when I saw your mail I thought at the very begin that someone might have changed the boot message regarding the graphics card in 2.4.28, too, but this is not the case. Baiscally I have: - U60 SMP360 - Adaptec 29160 SCSI-Controller, - Tigon 3c996 Ethernet card (not used here, but module is loaded) - Promise IDE Controller - Elite 3D graphics card, - 512 MB of memory Thanks for any inputs, how should I create X.log? take care Dieter Jurzitza -Original Message- From: Joerg Friedrich [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, November 26, 2004 8:18 AM To: debian-sparc@lists.debian.org Subject: Re: XFree not starting any more Hi Dieter, Jurzitza, Dieter schrieb am Freitag, 26.
