Has anyone been able to find a fix for the dreaded ypbind hang? From
the mailing list archives, I understand that using either ypbind-3.3
or ypbind-mt-1.4 will solve the problem, but neither one is available
in a Debian package. So, would the maintainer be willing to upgrade
the nis package? If not, can someone supply me with a compiled
version of ypbind? I have an old SPARCStation 2 with a tiny amount of
disk space that prevents me from installing gcc and compiling it
 myself.

I've never had any problem with ypbind and I've been using
Debian/Sparc with a NIS setup since December. I'm currently using the
nis_3.3.1-1 package from slink.

That's strange. Search through the debian-sparc archives for ypbind
to see a description of the problem. To summarize, ypbind hangs if
you don't specify the -debug -broadcast options. Apparently, this bug
only exists in ypbind-mt-1.3 (the version in nis_3.3.1-1). I'm not
sure how you were able to get around it.

Dunno, is your /etc/defaultdomain set? Does your the /etc/yp.conf
file contain any un-commented lines?

Yes.

Does your the /etc/yp.conf file contain any un-commented lines?

No. I was able to get the same version of ypbind-mt to work perfectly
with the same configuration on an i386, so something is wrong with the
SPARC version. Which kernel are you using?
