Most UltraSPARCs have a PROM bug that prevent them from booting from
floppy. You therefore have 2 _other_ good choices:

1) Boot from CD
2) Boot over the network

Or, upgrade our OBP to the latest revision. Look at sunsolve.sun.com for
updates.

Did you use the sun4u disks? Don't use a floppy boot on Ultra's. They
tend not to work very well. Try tftp boot (using the tftp image in the
sun4u directory), or try a CD boot using the ISO images on
ftp://cdimage.debian.org/

Trouble installing on an dual-168MHz Ultra2

2001-02-09 Thread Will Andrews
Hi!

I am attempting to do an ftp install using floppies. Currently the
Ultra2 has Solaris installed; I am trying to install Debian 2.2 potato.
However, none of the floppies that I obtained from
ftp://ftp.cerias.purdue.edu/pub/os/debian/dists/potato/main/disks-sparc/...
will boot. rescue.bin gives me something like "SILInvalidInstruction"
and the others are "Bad magic number". I followed the instructions
given by README.txt in the directory above.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. :)
