Do you know off-hand if that image is supposed to support tape devices?  
I installed 2.4.26-smp that way and found I couldn't access an external 
tape drive via the mt and dump commands (it's found according to 
/var/log/dmesg).

Was the st module loaded?

Or was it an OnStream tape drive? I haven't included that driver in the
sparc32 kernels.

Apparently not.  ;)

Just a regular external DLT-1.  Looks like it's working now. 

I'm *extremely* happy.  Sorry for the stupid question -- don't know 
anything about how modules are handled under Linux, but I'll look it up 
today.

kernel 2.4 on sun4m

AFAICT there's not a single kernel-image-2.4 for sun4m, so I'll have to 
 roll my own. Usually I install a kernel-image-2.4 before to satisfy 
 possible dependencies.

Anything I should be aware of?
