Re: xserver-xfree86 4.3.0.dfsg.1-7 glint on UltraSparc 60 with Linux 2.6.8.1: Unresolved Symbols
Patrick, 1) Anything from the kernel driver in dmesg before/after you try to start X? I'd expect a line like: fb0: ... frame buffer device, memory = ...K 2) Have you tried using the 'fbdev' device in you XF86config? What happens with that driver? Martin
xserver-xfree86 4.3.0.dfsg.1-7 glint on UltraSparc 60 with Linux 2.6.8.1: Unresolved Symbols
Hello, I've got a problem running XFree86 on my UltraSparc 60 with a custom built kernel. I can run XFree86 with the 2.4.26 SMP kernel deb, but it's missing some things I want to have. Does anybody have any suggestions about what config options to set in order to allow the XFree86 server to run with the glint driver? Attached are relevant files. Kernel built with kernel-package has numerous Unresolved symbols
I just compiled a new kernel using kernel-package, following these steps: mv /lib/modules/2.4.18 /lib/modules/2.4.18.old cd /usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.18 make menuconfig (Here I set Ext3 support and SMB file system support to be built in) make-kpkg clean make-kpkg --revision=paravel.1.0 kernel_image dpkg -i ../kernel-image-2.4.18-sun4u_paravel.1.0_sparc.deb shutdown -r now Upon boot up I got a screen full of "depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/..." messages (see below). Is there something I'm forgetting to do in making this kernel image? Should I remove these modules from the kernel configuration? I have built successful kernels on i386 before, but am a bit lost as to kernel options for Sparc's. Thanks, Rob Mosher The output of update-modules is: Architecture-specific modutils configuration not found, using defaults depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/arch/sparc64/solaris/solaris.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/block/loop.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/block/nbd.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/block/rd.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/bluetooth/hci_uart.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/bluetooth/hci_usb.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/bluetooth/hci_vhci.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/char/lp.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/fc4/fc4.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/fc4/soc.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/fc4/socal.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/ide/ataraid.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/ide/hptraid.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/ide/ide-floppy.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/ide/ide-tape.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/ide/pdcraid.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/ieee1394.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/ohci1394.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/pcilynx.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/raw1394.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/sbp2.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/md/linear.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/md/lvm-mod.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/md/md.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/md/multipath.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/md/raid0.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/md/raid1.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/md/raid5.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/md/xor.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/message/fusion/isense.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/message/fusion/mptbase.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/message/fusion/mptctl.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/message/fusion/mptlan.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/message/fusion/mptscsih.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/net/3c59x.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/net/8139too.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/net/8390.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/net/acenic.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/net/bonding.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/net/de4x5.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/net/dgrs.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/net/dl2k.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/net/dummy.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/net/eepro100.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/net/epic100.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/net/eql.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/net/fealnx.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/net/hamachi.o depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/net/myri_sbus.o de
Unresolved Symbols in ipv6 and iptables :-(
First of all, thanks for the help with Silo. Apparently Silo cannot load a kernel if it's larger than 2.5 MB. So I tryed to make as much as possible as modules. But I'm quite stuck now. The only things left which I could build as modules are ipv6 support and the whole ipv4 iptables stuff. But none of them works if I build them as modules. All I get is a load of 'Unresolved Symbols'. I did delete all existing modules prior of remaking them. I also did a make clean and make dep prior of rebuilding vmlinux and the modules. Anybody an idea how I can build working modules of ipv6 and the iptable stuff? Other Modules like filesystems etc. work without a problem. It's Kerken 2.4.18. Or any Idea how I could make Silo boot a 2.8 MB Kernel? -Benoit-

I'm getting this on boot up. I'm using testing (Woody), but I've had the same thing go on with Potato 2.2r2.
