slink PPP hangup problem
Hello All I have been using Debian Slink Linux for a while now, but I have a problem hanging up (terminating) a PPP connection. I have the latest version of PPPD installed, I have edited the chatscripts ect... to dial the interent, and i use pon to logon to the internet. But when it comes time to log off the internet I do have a problem. The problem is that when I run /usr/bin/poff. The program does not 'terminate' thet PPP connection properly. The connection is terminated but in /var/log/syslog I get the following messages: Jan 6 07:01:49 indolent pppd[296]: Terminating on signal 2. Jan 6 07:02:34 indolent chat[851]: Failed Jan 6 07:02:34 indolent pppd[296]: disconnect script failed Jan 6 07:02:35 indolent pppd[296]: Exit. I have no clue how to fix this problem. I know that poff does work on this other debian box that I have, and it hangs up instantly off the internet. When I use poff of this machine I can't get off the intenret instantly it takes a few minutes then puts some errors out to syslog (shown above), I was just wondering if anyone has nay idea how to fix this. Or what kind of problem this is... And once in a long while sometimes the modem won't hangup when i execute /usr/bin/poff and I am forced to reboot the box. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? Thanks in advance, Nikhil

I found the other libs ... was looking in the wrong directory. I did find a libf2c.so.2 file. Is this a later version of the libf2c.so.0 ??? Should I use that? Or is it something completely different?? I found a 1995 version which fits the bill, but its use would require that I overwrite a file out of my current libf2c.so.2 group. I have obtained the source, but am leery about compiling it since I really am unfamiliar with that process. Do you know if the dependencies would remain, or would they change to the versions in my system?? You could also try `objdump --private-headers executable | grep RPATH' to see if there's a path to the libraries compiled into the program. Nothing came up for this. Thanks for the idea, though. This was discussed a week or two ago and I had hoped that it'd soon be cleared up, but it hasn't been. I currently think that non-us.debian.org is unuseable, since there are far too much broken entries in the packages lists (packages that are only available in older versions than listed in the list). I don't know what they do, but for now I use a local mirror of slink in my neighbourhood instead of the official de debian mirror (that happens to be the non-us site, too). Try this sources.list line: deb http://www.rising.com.au/debian-non-US dists/unstable/non-US/binary-$(ARCH)/ This mirror (mine) rebuilds the Packages file correctly after mirroring. PPP and mouse
Hi... Yesterday, I downloeaded the Debian Linux installation kit on floppies and installed it on my 486 at home. It was a breeze. However, there was one problem. At the time of installation, I hadn't plugged in the mouse (a Microsoft PS/2 serial mouse). I'm wondering if the plugging in of the mouse was crucial to the stage Configure device drivers. Will I have problems while installing XFree86 All I wish to use this PC for is dialling up to my university and working remotely. I have not purchased a modem yet. Could someone please tell me a)what kind of modem I should buy b)how to configure it *I do not have a DOS partition on my hard disk. I only have a Linux native and a Linux Swap partition* c)how to configure PPP support. All I have installed right now is just the base system. I have just 116Mb on my hard disk and 16Mb of RAM. So I set aside 100MB for the Primary Linux Partition and 16Mb for the swap. I'm wondering if I'll have enough memory to install the bare XWindows system. Downloading Installing WP8....
Howdy Y'all I just downloaded the WordPerfect 8 GZ file from the Corel Ftp site... I downloaded the single part version (I saved the file as WordP8.gz) When I go to unzip it (using gzip -d), I get an error saying that the file is not a GZipped file...I downloaded it with Netscape 4.5 (which thank God installed flawlessly...) What should I do? Thanks, Brant __ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

You will eventually want to compile a kernel that has only what you need though. All I wish to use this PC for is dialling up to my university and working remotely. I have not purchased a modem yet. Could someone please tell me a)what kind of modem I should buy Any, just avoid ones that are winmodems. The box should state this. b)how to configure it *I do not have a DOS partition on my hard disk.
