junk on tty after x crash
Hello, this is very disturbing -- when my X server doesn't shut down smoothly, it leaves some junk behind on the tty it was running on. The result is that next time I startx, it doesn't use the same tty anymore. What can I do to get rid of this annoying problem? Kernel-dependant DVD read problems
Hi All! A 'funny' problem occured these days when trying to write and read data-DVD's. Afer burning an ISO-image with growisofs on a DVD-R (what seemed to work successfully) I tried to verify the correctness of the content. And: Absolutely not identical! An ls in the DVDs root-directory showed incorrect filenames, some files were missing completely, some had wrong content. At first I thought that this happened through the burning process but after trying to read the DVD on some other hosts I realized that this is depending on the Kernel! The bf24 from Debian 3.0r1 works proper, 2.4.26 and 2.6.5 show the problem. Has anyone else had this problem? Are some special kernel-patches available? (I searched the web for this problem but was not very successful) Could this have to do with DMA? grettings, Klaus! -- Klaus Siegesleitner - [EMAIL PROTECTED] CAME (Center of Applied Molecular Engineering) University of Salzburg, Jakob-Haringerstr. 5, A-5020 Salzburg -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". The question was: "How can files that are (perhaps) created by maintainer scripts be registered to dpkg?", and one answer was: "By including them in the deb as empty files". But this would have the consequence that all those files would have to be created by dpkg, and clutter /etc. I had understood from John's question that he wanted dpkg just to ignore empty files, except that it registers them for the package. But this would make it impossible for a package to ship an empty file. Indeed, it could create it in a maintainer script, but that's plain rubbish - change dpkg to do illogical things, and then work around this in maintainer scripts. Better find an other way to register those files (there have been proposals). Regards, Frank -- Frank Küster, Biozentrum der Univ. Basel Abt. Biophysikalische Chemie
