It has for 390 series. There is a mail list named 'debian-s390' and
'debian-s390-changes'. You can ask for further details there.

Gamers I know ONLY care about gaming. They have no motivation to swith,
because no "cool" games are unique to Linux.

I did a poor job of explaining that. Acrobat prints normally, and a job is
created in CUPS, but it never actually prints, it just sits in the queue for
my Laserjet 1012. (I'm using hplip.) If I print from another program, that
job prints fine but the Acrobat-spawned job is still sitting in the queue.

RE: Just a thought

2006-07-24 Thread David Baron
Actually: XP can run games written for it a some but not all games written for
previous windows version. One can of course boot up CDs for self-booting
games.

Linux, on the otherhand:

Can run games written for it. These include knockoffs of most windows classics
such a solitaire and freecell. ports of doom and quake and that ilk, and
stuff unknown on windows such as frozenbubbles, peguin racer, etc. (which
could be compiled to run on windows if one wishes--opensource).

Can run many windows games using WINE.

Can run pure .net games directly. Install mono from Novell (also opensource!).

Can run classic ROM games using mame, xmess, etc.

Can run DOS and windows games using virtual machine programs such as qemu and
dosbox.

Can run LucasArts games using the appropriate software.

In other words, if one is willing to put in minimal effort YES! Go for
it!

Printing from Acrobat

I'm using Etch, with up-to-date CUPS. I can print fine from most
applications (e.g. OpenOffice.org, Firefox) but not from Adobe Acrobat
Reader (v7 from the Marillat collection). In fact, I can print a Social
Security form from xpdf, but not Acrobat. (Unfortunately xpdf screws up the
margins and cuts off the edges of each page.)

Any suggestions on why this is happening? I'm not sure I can submit a bug
report, because acroread is not an official Debian package.

Nick Wright wrote:

I have a little cosmetical problem but it is annoying. By default my
GTK2 standard dialogs (open, save, ...) are very small. Is there any
configuration file where I can set those dimensions?

Yeah I have a simmilar thing I think.. When I go to save stuff from
firefox it gives me a fairly small dialog box initally. There's a
"Browse for other folders" button that opens up a tiny browse window
(unusably small) the first time but then if you close and open it
again it'll be a decent size..

K3b (which I know has nothing to do with GTK2) also has this problem
when you browse for an iso image to burn.

IIRC there is a bug which makes gtk miscalculate the size of the window
on which the dialog is to be displayed (and thus miscalculate the
chooser dialog size). I have had a look for more info but couldn't find
anything atm. There might be more info in debian-user archives.

The "browse for other folders" issue is seperate (IIRC), there is a
patch for it which can be seen on the gentoo forum:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-362497-highlight-.html

Printing in a4, duplex

2006-07-24 Thread Raymond Wan

Hi all,

I'm using Debian stable and trying to print in A4, duplex mode on
a network printer. I've made some progress, but I think I'm missing one
piece still. In CUPS (v1.1.23), I've selected "duplex" and my media size
is A4.

I have this in a2ps.cfg:

## Enable duplex printing
Options: -s2

And this in a2ps-site.cfg:

## Change libpaper to a4
Options: --medium=a4

If I print a PS file, it comes out on A4, but not in duplex mode.
So, half there...

Now, I try to print with:

lp -d -o sides=two-sided-long-edge file.ps

or even with just

lp file.ps

It comes out double-sided, but on letter-size paper (There is
letter-sized paper in the printer, but it is better not to use it since it
isn't the standard paper size here, which makes it expensive to acquire.)
Interestingly, when the PS file (original source is from LaTeX) is made
with either "dvips -tletter" or "dvips -ta4", nothing comes out of the
printer. When I just use just "dvips" with no options, it comes out as
described above.

As for the Debian FAQ, I can confirm that libpaper1 is installed,
/etc/papersize says "a4" and just for good measure, I set the PAPERSIZE
environment variable to "a4".

lpoptions returns a single line: "job-sheets=none,none
_kde-filters=true".

If anyone has any suggestions on where should I look or what I may
have done wrong, please let me know. I've noticed no obvious pattern so
far and am quite confused about it...

The Flash Player project manager says that it's expected in early

Right now, I wouldn't mind having a v8...

Re: just some thoughts

2006-07-24 Thread Chuckk Hubbard

It's with shame that I even admit this affects me, but if yall didn't
know, the social site myspace.com has just moved all its multimedia
content to Flash 9.0 due to security problems they had with the
previous version, and Adobe has yet to come up with Flash Player 9.0
for Linux. They have a blog from their "head developer":
http://blogs.adobe.com/penguin.swf/
but I can't help thinking it reads like it was written to try to sound
chummy with penguinheads while dragging their feet about just
programming the damn thing.
The Flash Player project manager says that it's expected in early
2007. Seems deliberate to me, but then I'm paranoid. No doubt it
would be done in short order if it were released as FOSS.

I'd start by seeing if it happens with another user.
In a different windowing environment.
In a simple X session (twm or icewm, etc)
In console without X running at all.
In single-user mode.

Then I'd post the results here.

KDE with usually 4 or 5 session Konsole windows open
and the Mozilla browser and perhaps an embedded modia
player open-nothing else. Before a few minutes pass(<
5 min.), the HD starts making noise, reading and
writing, then the mouse becomes unresponsive(clicking
anything wont respond for several minutes) and may
even disappear(pointer) for a minute of so. After
several minutes pass(maybe 15-20 min.) the system
begins to respond normally again after the HD slows
down it's read/write activity. During the total time
this phenomena is occurring, the system is totally
useless. Can't even shut it down. I don't know if
this is even a swap issue or what to do about it or
whether it may be a virus infection or some setup
issue. It is totally unacceptable and I could use some
serious help in pinning it down and getting it fixed.

xine works from startx, not from kdm

2006-07-24 Thread Kent West
If I log in via KDM or GDM, xine just shows a scrambled, frozen window
while playing a DVD (sound works).

But if I log in via "startx", xine works fine.

This is true with different users. One user, I deleted the ~/.xine
directory, but that made no difference.

The only thing I see in "xdpyinfo" is that the "number of visuals" via
"startx" is 8, whereas with KDM it's 16.

By the way, xine _used_ to work fine from KDM, so I'm suspecting some
change in my last upgrade (I'm running sid).

Any clues? Thanks!

I wouldn't really consider multi-IM clients as "jabber clients," as they
usually fail miserably at the task in one form or another. Kopete won't let
you do service discovery, GAIM's just plain annoying (why does it open new
windows for what should be an ignored line in STDERR?) and doesn't have
service discovery, and the topper: Trillian Pro 3 won't let you send
messages(!) and you have to pay for it.

If you want Jabber, get a real Jabber client, use the transports to deal with
the obsolete networks instead.

Linux only has text mode. You probably mean, how do I get some kind of
desktop environment. apt-get install kde

>please help me out i have just downloaded 16 cd's

You should have read the installation manual before starting (like every
download site tells you to do anyway). Most CDs aren't necessary for most
users.

In the future, please save everybody some time and trouble by asking a smart
question.

Psi is my preference. It's in main, though there's a dev branch that's adding
Jingle (VOIP) to it right now, too. http://www.psi-im.org/

# psi-jingle
deb http://gnu.buildtolearn.net/linux/packages/psi-jingle/unstable ./
deb-src http://gnu.buildtolearn.net/linux/packages/psi-jingle/unstable ./

You can change unstable to testing or stable for the other versions.

Is anythin else using /dev/dsp while you are trying to play sound on flash movies in Firefox?  That would stop the sound from working as only one prog can ouput to /dev/dsp with the OSS driver.  Try replaceing "aoss" to "alsa"  if your card supports the alsa protocol.  or try turning off all apps that use dev dsp then restarting firefox.  then try to play flash movies in firefox.

Re: USB not working on Dell PowerEdge 850

My problem what recompiling the kernel without having done a
make mrproper
... and/or ...
make-kpkg clean

so, I guess the changes to the .config were not getting reflected in the
kernel image.

But am I not on the same local lan when I am logged via ssh to my
gateway

192.168.0.1? The desktop that doesn´t wake is 192.168.0.3 . The one that
does wake correctly is 192.168.0.5.

The computer wakes up correctly when I ether-wake it inside the lan,
so, I

guess this eliminates this possibilty?

This is a home lan, very small, there´s only one 8-port switch:

Why not to use ISOs for testing --

Gimp 2.2.6 and non-sarge libs.

2006-07-24 Thread djhack

I am starting to suspect that the libcairo2 dependency comes
indirectly
from some other library that you have installed. Can you check your
system for non-Debian(-sarge) libraries?

aptitude search '~i~slibs!~Odebian'

Result:
i libmysqlclient15off -mysql client database library

aptitude search '~i~slibs!~A(sarge|stable)'

Result: - returns nothing.

Yeah I am getting regular segfaults with the following message

,
| The program 'Gecko' received an X Window System error. This probably
| reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadShmSeg (invalid shared

| from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
`

So much so I have had to switch browsers, is this a bug I should file
against ff or is it an X library bug?

No sound support for KDE

2006-07-24 Thread Markus Petermann
Hello,

I have a problem with the audio output of KDE 3.5.3 (the KDE version
currently used by Debian Etch Testing): There is absolutely no sound output.

After the first launch of KDE I got a pop-up with the error message:

"Sound server information message:
Error while initializing sound driver:
device: default can't be opened for playback (No such device)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device."

I started "kcontrol / Sound / Sound System / Hardware" and activated the
ALSA sound system. I installed the remaining alsa packages and ran
alsaconf. Then I used alsamixer and unmuted all channels (both actions
as root). I also used alsamixer as normal user and of cause kmix - no
effect.

Due to Bug report #362282 I replaced libasound2 with version 1.0.11-7 -
no effect.

After this I used the module-assistent to build the ALSA module drivers,
installed them and run alsaconf and alsamixer again - no effect.

I have two remarks concerning this issue:
1. The ALSA sound system works with Debian Sarge.
2. I tested two other distributions (Kubuntu 6.06 and SusSE 10.1) in the
last weeks: I had no sound on both distributions. On Ubuntu 6.06
(using GNOME) audio is available (but I have no idea about the used
sound system).

Here is a dump of the loaded sound modules:

OK, so it is the same file. Thanks.

Thank you for taking the time to post this. I think it means that the
OP
must have some non-Sarge libaries installed which try to link to
libcairo2 (and the same happens on my Sid system with the gimp binary
from Sarge, so obviously I don't really know how ldd works).
The reported bug (#379524) has been closed again.

How would you find and purge"non-Sarge libraries"? The only thing I
recall toying with was gimp-shop which I tried to compile on my machine
a while ago. It wanted a few files whose versions were beyond Sarge.
Messed up more than it was worth and never would compile. Here is the
list of stuff I tried to get to get gimp-shop going:

gtk+-2.8.19
atk-1.9.0
pango-1.11.6
tif-3.8.2
libart-lgpl-2.3.11
glib-2.9.6
cairo-0.9.2 which wanted freetype-2.2.1 and fontconfig-2.2.90

I realized as I was in the process of compile/installing these
different packages that it was breaking other things so I gave up
somewhere down that list. I spent a week putting things back together
as best as I could. Everything seemed OK until gimp showed up.

You probably need to apply the vmware any-any patch (search on
vmware.com); see
www.vmware.com/community/message.jspa?messageID=439133

BTW, when you get around to upgrading to 2.6.17, you might need to check
out www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?messageID=432775. I had to
do these edits before VMWare worked for me on 2.6.17 + Debian.

Good Luck, HTH

Any success in installing Linux Lotus Notes Client 7.0.1 on Etch?

2006-07-24 Thread Bruno Voigt
Hi all,
the Linux-Version of the Lotus Notes client 7.0.1 is now available.
It is intended for Redhat 4 with Mozilla 1.7.

Had someone already success in installing it on Etch?
For me the installer exits after complaining that it could not validate
the mozilla version,
although the latest mozilla packages are installed.

running the installer with strace didn't provide any hints to me.

Perhaps someone already had more success?

TIA,
Bruno

In my own (admittedly limited) experience that is very true. The few
computer users I know personally are all Win gamers. Until top-notch
NFL, golfing and hunting games come to Linux these fellows won't change
although each have approached me about changing already.

Them: Can I run my games?
Me: Let me see 'em.
No.
Them: I guess I'll have to stick with Windows.

You can't imagine how frustrating that can be.

Re: Wireless : best policy / pratice to start it

2006-07-24 Thread Ryan Gandy
Wireless encryption is a good start, preferably 128-bit.

If you have an access filter on your router to govern which machines access
the network, enable it also and give the router your MAC address as its
first/only entry.

Not to state the obvious, but change your router's password from the default
and enable blocking for any questionable ports which show up via a quick
netstat -plant.

I have a wireless network with two computers and these steps seem to work well
for me.

Hi!

When my root's shell is `/bin/bash' in the /etc/passwd file, and I do
`su' as a simple user, then the root's .profile (/root/.profile) gets
executed.
After setting the root's shell to `/bin/sh', and do `su' as a simple
user, then the root's .profile doesn't get executed until i run su as
`su -'. My /bin/sh is a symlink to /bin/bash.

ps.: I can tell if the .profile is used or not from the prompt (I have
the PS1 variable set in the .profile file).

Thanks!

Wireless : best policy / pratice to start it

2006-07-24 Thread Bruno Costacurta
Hello,

I'm looking for the best policies / practices to start wireless networking.
Briefly I use wireless in following locations:

-home:
wpa via wpa_supplicant

-public (bars..etc..):
no wep/wpa

Both works fine. Currently I start a console logged with user root to call
ifup with related params.
Should I used root to call ifup ?
I would like to keep a manual connection as I do not want to automatically
connect.

Hereafter my partial file 'interface'

(snip)
# wireless public places
iface public inet dhcp
wireless-essid any
wireless-key off

# wireless at home using wpa
iface homewpa inet static
wpa_driver wext
wpa-conf /home/bruno/.wpa/wpa_supplicant.conf
address 192.168.1.4
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1
(snip)

etherwake uses ARP/raw ethernet packets, you need to be on the local LAN
and sometimes same switch to wake up your box

if you're on the network + same switch, make sure your BIOS is setup

nvidia pci devices, but 2.6.17 does ( I found out from the knoppix CD).

So, to get internet connectivity, I had to install 2.6.17 on stable. This is
really NBD and nothing has broken (yet).

I am really interested in the backport option and, clearly, kernels should, and
probably are, part of that process. Is there an official web page on the debian
site that deals with backports?

can´t ether-wake from the internet

2006-07-24 Thread Bruno Buys
This is odd: I can ether-wake my desktop from another computer on my home lan, but I can´t ether-wake it while ssh´ing to my gateway from an outside computer (win pc at work). However, I can ether-wake another sarge machine running in a abit+athlon with via-rhine eth card. Why is that?
The system is a sarge machine, the eth card is an onboard via gigabit (via-velocity module), in a abit/sempron desktop. The gateway is a coyote linux p1, if it matters. Thanks for any inputs!bruno

You can either tell firestarter not to log these events anymore
(probably a bad idea) or you can tell klogd to stop echoing low-level
messages on the ttys. For the latter approach see for example here:

http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2006/07/msg00068.html

If you are worried about missing messages after you change the setting
then you can install the package "logcheck". It comes with a friendly
daemon which will send you an email notification whenever something
unusual is logged.

I use kopete because of integration to KDE (and decent IRC

apt-cache search jabber client

and you will get what's available. Most widely used on Linux are:

* Kopete (KDE; multi-protocol; well-integrated into KDE, support
of Jabber is substantially better in 0.12 version, which
unfortunately has not been packaged for Debian yet -- any
volunteers? -- I use SVN version, but tarball is available at
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/kopete/kopete-0.12.1.tar.bz2?download)
* Gajim (Gnome -- Jabber only, supports a lot of advanced Jabber
features)
* Gaim (Gnome -- multi-protocol, less strict about conformity
with Jabber standards and customs)
* Psi (Qt -- well-looking in KDE; Jabber only and highly
conforming with standards; now looking on support for
VoIP/Jingle -- voice messaging with GTalk)
* Tkabber (Tcl/Tk -- i.e., never looks at home anywhere ;-), but
it is very well developed Jabber-only client, highly conformant,
with a lot of features).

Does it help?

Hi!

I wish to change the default shell on my debian system. I want this
change to affect all current and all future users.

I guess this is a simple job, because I just have to install the new
shell, add it's binary's name to the /etc/shells file, and execute chsh
@USERS. So much for the current users.

But in both of the /etc/defaults/useradd and /etc/adduser.conf files
there is a variable called (D)SHELL. Those points to /bin/sh. Is it
safe (future-proof) to change the /bin/sh symlink so it won't point to
bash but my new shell. Will this change break some packages or upgrades

Thanks!

Re: If you are running XFS and a 2.6.17(.x) kernel...

2006-07-24 Thread Justin Piszcz
It results in corruption of multiple directories in your filesystem, after
you perform the fix shown in the FAQ, it will move hundreds of thousands
(potentially) of files/directories/sockets/etc to /lost+found, so back up
your data before!

One way to fix: rsync your existing data elsewhere, follow the FAQ and
then rsync the filesystem back and it will add the files that got moved to
/lost+found.

Everything that is installed automatically to satisfy a dependency is
marked as "auto". These packages are removed again as soon as no other
package depends on them anymore. There can be screw-ups if aptitude is
used together with package managers that don't know about this extra
flag.

I am starting to suspect that the libcairo2 dependency comes indirectly
from some other library that you have installed. Can you check your
system for non-Debian(-sarge) libraries?

aptitude search '~i~slibs!~Odebian'
aptitude search '~i~slibs!~A(sarge|stable)'

Re: just some thoughts

2006-07-24 Thread Art Edwards
I agree with the argument about people engaged in the creative
arts. I just started using lilypond, which does put out some
very nice looking charts. It may also be the least intuitive
code I've touched in maybe five years. There is a windows tool called
bandbox that works very well. What I don't understand is the
false dichotomy between a free OS and proprietary code that would
run on top of it. Would I buy bandbox ported to Linux? YES. Even more
important are games. My children run XP because the games run on XP. There
are now a few games ported to linux that I'm trying to check out, but
there have to be significanly more (like a majority) before I can evict
XP from the house.

Port games to linux and the adoption rate would skyrocket (IMHO).

Thank you for taking the time to post this. I think it means that the OP
must have some non-Sarge libaries installed which try to link to
libcairo2 (and the same happens on my Sid system with the gimp binary
from Sarge, so obviously I don't really know how ldd works).

Probably a result of the recent security update?

I'd suggest it is the result of an extension which was erroneously
broken when the package was rebuilt. Sometimes that is unavoidable
 due to internal changes.

Disable all your extensions one by one until the problem goes away.

If that works then report back here and let us know which one(s)

During the installation you will get asked, which tasks to install.
This will install a broad collection for various, for example a
webserver. The task you most likely would like to install is the
"Desktop Environment" task. This will install the graphical subsystem,
an office suite as well as some small games and other usefull tools.

After the installation you can do the very same by login in (just enter
"root" and the root-passwort you choosed during installation when you
see the command prompt), and run "tasksel". Select the Desktop taks and
go in okay.

Yes, echo 1 > /proc/sys/vm/block_dump

Note that this will make klogd log all processes that read/write to disk,
which can have fun results since klogd writes to disk in doing so.

You can also install laptop-mode-tools and use the lm-profiler program.

Do you have x-windows installed?
Do you have one of the GUIs installed? KDE? Gnome?
KDE try as root /etc/init.d/kdm start
There are various other alternatives, startx, etc.

It's harmless, though perhaps a pity that the python maintainers decided
on this ugly solution.

Don't you have a /etc/pam.d/cupsys? It's in the cupsys package unless
you delete it..

That's bug #375749, which is harmless.

My suggestion would be to google for some recent and more Debian-specific
kernel-compile how-to's; for example, using make-kpkg makes it a lot simpler
by making a .deb kernel package you can then install just like a regular
package. You do have to move /lib/modules/$KERNEL_VERSION out of the way if
you are re-compiling the same kernel version, but I think you get prompted
for that.

Your questions:

1) The timer resolution option is under "Processor type and features", near
the bottom.

2) You can certainly make your kernel a lot smaller this way (mine is a
quarter the size of the vanilla one) but whether it's actually faster is not
immediately obvious to me.

HTH,

John

Aside from the fact that it is illegal to use Gaim or any other
client other than official clients of the AIM/Yahoo!/MSN
(http://blogs.openaether.org/?p=146; actually, it is a breach of
contract to discuss bussines issues over MSN) -- and yes, that
covers Jabber transports as well (which is one of the reasons
why use of such transports is considered just temporary measure,
before more people switch to Jabber/GTalk), there are some
advantages of Jabber:

1) You can communicate with ALL your contacts anywhere even
without your client being installed (http://www.jwchat.org or
http://jeti.sf.net) -- because contacts on other networks with
whom you communicate through transports are considered regular
Jabber contacts they are available even through these web
clients. I was temping a lot last year and just this feature of
Jabber made me to switch.
2) Much better support for more features -- for example many
multi-protocol clients don't support file transfers, but it
works with Jabber (kopete, gaim).
3) No ads.
4) Decentralization -- tends to be more robust (with good
management of servers, but you can choose one) than often
unaccessible ICQ/MSN/AIM, and you are not dependent on one
provider (if worst comes to worst, you can install your own
Jabber server and continue to communicate with people on all
federated servers -- http://www.xmpp.net/; think about IM inside
the business company; think also about Sarbanes-Oxley Act for
American companies -- duty to record business communication in
all big companies).
5) You can logged-in from more than place at once (home, work)
6) full Unicodization -- I am from the Czech republic (where
situation is much better than let's say China or Russia) and I
have to deal all the time with people using different encodings.
7) there are many services provided by some Jabber servers (which
you can use without regards to which server you are connected --
RSS feeds over Jabber, sending SMS messages, programs of TV and
cinemas, mail reading -- not that much supported, but it may
come, and many others).
8) fully SSL encrypted per default.
9) multi-user conferences (more comfortable than IRC IMHO;
context of last messages before your login, etc.), again
available anywhere you have web-browser.
10) coming Jingle -- VOIP in your client; which Linux
multi-protocol client does it support for other IM protocols?
11) you'll be looking much more geeky ;-) and Jabber people tend
to be generally quite friendly.

Best (my JID is below),

Matěj

mpd (Music Player Daemon) supports gapless flac playback, and seeking works
just fine too. It's also very fast and supports large music libraries
without a problem.

I use mpd and gmpc from sid.

Hi all:

I have just downgraded the cupsys files using this repository and
cupsys is working fine now.

It seems there is something wrong with the current etch cupsys package.

Thanks.

Newer CUPS apparently defaults printers to "stopped". IF this be your problem,
go to http://localhost:631 and "start" the printer.

NetworkCard of IBMthinkCentre

2006-07-24 Thread H S Rai
I installed Debian3.1 on IBM Think Centre using CD. It has
BroadCom's NetXtreme fast ethernet card. The driver is
present. But it is not loaded automatically. On issuing command:

# /sbin/modprobe tg3

It says "cannot find proper PCI device base address,
aborting.
/lib/modules/2.4.27-2-386/kernel/driver/driver/drivers/net/tg3.o:
init_module: No such device."

Is there problem with irq or base address. How to set them?
In M$win card works fine. In Debian, card's light glows.

Thanks in advance.

It would be useful to contact
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

We try hard not to break compatibility, but since there are lots
of extensions out there that make use of some corner case apis, it might
happen from time to time that some random extension breaks, especially
if those extensions make use of internal, not public interfaces.

Anyway, best would be if you can provide feedback *before* we release.
I usually announce RC security builds well ahead of release on my
site and on mailing list mentioned above.

The tag editing package "exfalso" (not sure if it is in Etch, I'm

restored successfully. It appears that other MP3 tagging packages do not
support UTF-8 completely. Anyone care to file more bug reports for the

The media player "quodlibet" which requires "exfalso" also displayed
correctly "Píseň Rusalky o měsíčku" which was stored in a tag of an MP3.

I have used two wireless cards in my laptop.

1. A Linksys WPC11 PC-card, supporting 10Mb/s (802.11b).
This turned out to be a 'v.4' although there was no
indication of this on the packaging or in the description
   provided by the online vendor.

The 'v.4' means it has a rtl8180 chipset and can be used
with the fully GPL driver available from
   .

I can't remember what chipset the pre-v4 cards had, but I
believe it was one which was supported by an open source
driver too (possibly the prism or prism2).

2. An intel pro-wireless 802.11g mini-pci card. This has a
GPL driver which is included in
the current mainline kernels (I can't remember when it
was actually added). There's a debian package for this
   driver.

Note that this driver is open source *BUT* you need
non-free binary firmware to actually use the card.

I think both of these are relatively common cards but I have
no idea what kind of hardware stores you have around there.
