Installation sur une machine à faibles ressources

2008-02-09 Thread Patrice OLIVER
Bonjour,

monde Windows, j'ai essayé d'installer Kubuntu. On démarre souvent

situais: -where am i.

long terme.

Citation presque aléatoire:
Whereami?: i am where/où sont mes AMIS (Activités Mobiles In Space).

Description : Guess PC disk partition table, find lost partitions
Gpart is a tool which tries to guess the primary partition table of a PC-type
disk in case the primary
partition table in sector 0 is damaged, incorrect or deleted.

It is also good at finding and listing the types, locations, and sizes of
inadvertently-deleted partitions,
both primary and logical. It gives you the information you need to manually
re-create them (using fdisk,
 cfdisk, sfdisk, etc.).

The guessed table can also be written to a file or (if you firmly believe the
guessed table is entirely
correct) directly to a disk device.

Supported (guessable) filesystem or partition types:

 * BeOS filesystem type.
 * FreeBSD/NetBSD/386BSD disklabel sub-partitioning scheme used on Intel
platforms.
 * Linux second extended filesystem.
 * MS-DOS FAT12/16/32 filesystems.
 * IBM OS/2 High Performance filesystem.
 * Linux LVM physical volumes (LVM by Heinz Mauelshagen).
 * Linux swap partitions (versions 0 and 1).
 * The Minix operating system filesystem type.
 * MS Windows NT/2000 filesystem.
 * QNX 4.x filesystem.
 * The Reiser filesystem (version 3.5.X, X  11).
 * Sun Solaris on Intel platforms uses a sub-partitioning scheme on PC hard
disks similar to the BSD
   disklabels.
 * Silicon Graphics' journalling filesystem for Linux.

Other types may be added relatively easily, as separately compiled modules.

commande d'impression :

[extrait de .muttrc]
# 7. Impression
set print_command=enscript -D Duplex -2r -f [EMAIL PROTECTED]/10 -B

Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
Content-Disposition: inline

http://franboisson.free.fr/clef/)

http://boisson.homeip.net/clef/clefsdivers.html .

D'avance merci

Re: Asterisk no arranca

2008-02-09 Thread Maxi
2008/2/9, Usuario [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

 Saludos.

echo amportal start /etc/init.d/start_asterisk chmod +x
 /etc/init.d/start_asterisk update-rc.d asterisk defaults

Otro saludo...

hola.

A mi me paso algo mas o menos similar.

bcm43xx y Say goodbye to Microsoft.

2008-02-09 Thread Usuario
Saludos.

¿habrá alguna forma de decirle a Say goodbye to

He sabido por muchas
He

Re: Asterisk no arranca

'manuales'. Para hacer eso, identificalos en la lista y luego dile

 $ aptitude unmarkauto paquete1 paquete2 ...

Y listo.

/etc/security/limits.conf

deb http://ftp.br.debian.org/debian/ testing main

deb http://ftp.br.debian.org/debian/ unstable main

Estou informando a seguinte sintaxe no squid.conf

  auth_param ntlm program /usr/lib/squid/ntlm_auth

Alguém já passou por isso... ?? Alguma dica para pode solucionar este
problema?

zamanlarda insanlar sadece birbirlerine bok atmakla uğraşıyor! Sonuca da
bakarsak listenin kullanımı, bilgi paylaşımı yok denecek kadar az...

3. Önceden bu listeden insanlar kendi aralarında toplantılar düzenleyip
birbirleriyle arkadaşlıklar kurarken, sosyal ilişkiler gelişirken şu an
sadece kavga ediliyor.

4. Özgür Yazılım ve Debian Felsefesine baktığımızda amaç paylaşmaktır. Ben

Hello,

You are using the wrong driver for your card :

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=1540758postcount=2

Then, about the nvidia installer warning, you can work around that by
setting the CC environment variable (with the good version of gcc)
before executing the nvidia insaller.

I updated xorg a couple of days ago from an older version (running sid).
Please don't ask what older version - it's been a while.

After that the xserver started crashing after a couple of hours.
That wasn't a big surprise since I run nvidia binary drivers.
Figured I reinstall the nvidia driver and throw in a new kernel for good
 measure.

 xserver is 1:7.3+10
 Kernel: 2.6.24-1-686
 nvidia : version: 171.05

Unfortunately the xserver is still crashing.Well I figured since the nvidia
installer gave me a warning about the kernel being compiled with a different
version of gcc I just walk away and use the nv driver since I don't care
 about 3d anyway.

Unfortunately the nv driver also crashes :-)

This is with a 7600GS and a nforce 650i motherboard.

Does anybody have any suggestions what might be the problem here?
The only thing I could think about doing right now is downgrading xorg but
that might open a whole new can of worms...

Setting up ADSL?

2008-02-09 Thread Zach
I am getting ADSL (728/128) next week and have some questions.

I run Debian lenny with a 2.6.18 kernel.

The DSL connection will use PPPoE and I'll be getting a static IP.

I guess I just need 1 ethernet cable to connect the DSL modem to my NIC right?

How do I setup the PPPoE account (username, password)?

The modem also has a built in 4 port router so how can I setup NAT (I
only have 1 machine now but plan to add more in the future)?

How do I setup DHCP for my private addresses which NAT will use?

Anyone have a good basic firewall (especially example rules scripts!)
that I can put up?

Besides a plain firewall what else can I do to make my machine more
secure since it will be connected to the outside world nearly 24x7
from now on.

Last week one of my friends had their machine ping flooded, they
couldn't get any packets out and the attacker only stopped after he
unplugged his router and waited a few hours before reconnecting.
Questions:

1) If this happens to me what should I do to stop the attacker and get
back online?
(A quick way to ignore their IP would be good for starters.)

2) Why didn't his ISP or even the ISP's upstream provider catch this
and automatically null route the offender?

Also how can I manually bring my connection up and down?

Anyone know some good packages for logging network trafficing,
deciphering logs, getting useful reports etc?
If you log a lot I suppose there is no way to get around having to
read many log mails every day, the price of security eh?

Thanks,
Zach

Yes. It seems that whilst you had the Help menu open, and the

the same as above, (mouse pointer highlighting About in the Help menu),
and press the delete key.

Note: This technique can be used to create a keyboard shortcut for any

aptitude install pppoeconf from a debian CD then aptitude update and
aptitude dist-upgrade as soon as you get online. You'll have a choice of
dhclient or dhcpcd packages and pppoeconf installs dhclient. You may find
it helpful to install dhcpcd and do an aptitude remove purge dhclient
though since the most current dhclient package over here drops connections
frequently for no apparent reason I can discover yet. Try setting router
on modem to medium security level then go out to http://www.grc.com and do
the shields up test. If your system comes back as truely stealthed then
you're successful. If not, aptitude install arno-iptables-firewall then
do that shields up test again. That should get you started.

I tried to fix the problem with the help of document

The problem is that every time I boot my system Debian finds the new

Has someone else had similar problem and so also sollution?

...

The easiest and quickest approach with the least hassle is simply to
run SmoothWall Express 2.0 on an old computer, and let SmoothWall
handle the PPPoE, firewall, router, DHCP, and logging functions.
Visit www.smoothwall.org for the free download.

Configuring SmoothWall for the type of service which you describe is
almost trivial, and should take less than an hour the first time you do
it, and only five or ten minutes if you ever need to reinstall it.

When I was forced to use PPPoE, I found it best to configure and treat
the ADSL modem/router as a modem and to let SmoothWall handle the
PPPoE. The advantage is that, if the modem ever gives trouble, you
can swap out the modem without the need to configure the new modem.
Because ISPs commonly give away a modem with each new ADSL account,
most ADSL users eventually end up with several modems, few if any of
them having the ability to manage a PPPoE connection.

I think that's the one that caused the problem in the first place. If I
installed it I would get this:

The following extra packages will be installed:
   gdk-imlib11 imlib11 libgif-dev libungif4-dev
The following packages will be REMOVED

3 upgraded, 2 newly installed, 9 to remove and 3 not upgraded.

Your mirror is not quite up to date. You need version 4.6.1-3 of

libgif4, where these transitional packages were added. Since you
successfully downgraded imlib11 and reinstalled icewm, there is no need
to hurry, though.

The problem you encountered was triggered by the upload of imlib11
version 1.9.15-6, which was the first package to link against libgif4.
See the thread I started on
http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2008/02/msg00065.html.

Thanks, but this doesn't seem to be right. I take it 4.6.1-3 is a typo
for 4.1.6-3? In that case, that's the one I was looking at, and it's the
only such package listed on the Debian site. And it still gives the
REMOVE message if I were to install it -- which, as you say, I won't do

 Hi,

Probably I should also mention that I am using Ingo Molnar's realtime
preemption patch (which relies on the vanilla kernel):

  - kernel: http://kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/linux-2.6.24.tar.bz2
  - realtime preemption patch:
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/projects/rt/patch-2.6.24-rt1.bz2

But it seems to be not possible anymore to configure the vanilla
2.6.24 kernel to compile the security capabilities as module as
described in the README for the Debian realtime-lsm package in
 /usr/share/doc/realtime-lsm/README.Debian .

 Should I

   - wait for an update of the realtime-lsm module?
   - try one of
 - CONFIG_SECURITY_CAPABILITIES=y
 - # CONFIG_XFRM_SUB_POLICY is not set

Sorry, I meant:

- # CONFIG_SECURITY_CAPABILITIES is not set

 - CONFIG_SECURITY_CAPABILITIES=m
   - do something else?

Thanks again, Dietrich

I also append the README from the realtime-lsm package
( /usr/share/doc/realtime-lsm/README.Debian ):
---
The realtime kernel module for Debian
-

The default configuration allows all users in the audio group (or
applications
that are setgid audio) to access the kernel with higher scheduling
priority
and to lock their memory.

The default configuration gives you maximum security and performance.

In order to change this behaviour you can edit the /etc/default/realtime
file.

Debian kernels are built in a way that won't allow you to use the
realtime-lsm
module. In order to use it, you have to build your own kernel, and
configure
the CONFIG_SECURITY_CAPABILITIES as a module. The easiest way is to
install
the Debian linux-source package corresponding to your kernel, unpack it
in
/usr/src and copy the configuration like this:

 cat /boot/config-2.6.17-1-686 |
 sed s/CONFIG_SECURITY_CAPABILITIES=y/CONFIG_SECURITY_CAPABILITIES=m/
 /usr/src/linux-source-2.6.17/.config

Adapt the kernel version according to yours. You can also do this step
manually, by copying the configuration from /boot/ or configuring
yourself,
just make sure that CONFIG_SECURITY_CAPABILITIES=m, thats the whole
point
of it.

Build the new kernel with

 make-kpkg --initrd --revision 1 --append-to-version -1-lsm
kernel_image

and install the resulting .deb.
Afer that, you can build the realtime-lsm with module-assistant:

 m-a build realtime-lsm

or build it with make-kpkg:

Make sure your version.h is up to date (in case you did not compile the
source)
 make modules_prepare
compile:
 make-kpkg modules-image

and install it:

dpkg -i /usr/src/realtime-lsm-module-*.deb

From some other comments in the thread, it sounds like you are trying
to do something like the following:

$ cat foo

g()

printf 'in g\n'

$ cat bar

g

If you source the file with the function definitions, it makes
the functions available in the current shell, but not in subshells
that you may invoke.

Icedove news

2008-02-09 Thread Jan Willem Stumpel
I recently started using Icedove for mail news (until now, I
only used Iceape or a hacked Fedora Seamonkey version).

I have some problems with news. I have subscribed to a few
newsgroups offered by the news server at my ISP (news.planet.nl).

Each time I click on a newsgroup (say, alt.html) a window pops up
asking if I want to subscribe to this newsgroup (to which I am
already subscribed). If I say yes, a side-effect is that in the
newsrc file (in my case ~/.mozilla-thunderbird/default.lgh/News/
newsrc-news.planet.nl) a new line is created for this newsgroup.
The newsrc file therefore tends to grow without bounds, with many
duplicate lines.

Also, and because of this, it is impossible to unsubscribe from
newsgroups. If I try to unsubscribe, the number of duplicate lines
for this group in the newsrc is diminished by one. But as there
are still many left, the next time I start icedove I am still
subscribed to that group.

Do other list members also get these do you want to subscribe
popups when using icedove for news?

 --scrollbar 0
   --buttonbar 0 -e sudo grc tail -n 16 -f /var/log/syslog

I do this in .fvwm2rc for various xterms. I believe this depends on the fact
that xterm and Eterm honor their geometry arguments from a command line. In
my experience, though, firefox (iceweasel) does not. Where the window comes
up, and what size it is, has no relation to any -g or -geometry arguments
I try. Neither its man page nor firefox --help indicates such an argument.
It's odd that giving it such an argument has no effect but also gives no
error message.

Firefox does claim to accept -height and -width but again, I actually get
800x980 no matter what arguments I give. And even those wouldn't allow
specification of window placement.

With old Netscape, having this in ~/.Xresources

  Netscape.Navigator.geometry: 800x977+773+87

and calling xrdb worked. But it does not with firefox.

I brought this up as a question in a thread size and position of iceweasel
window last year. There seemed to be general agreement that firefox ignores
geometry requests.

Yes. According to /man maildirmake/, Maildir doesn't do sub-

courier-imap also creates this kind of dotted directory name.

Now I'm looking for a great case in which to mount it (them?). Starting
with wikipedia on EMR shielding, and surfing fro there, I've learned
that steel is much better for this than aluminum of the same thickness,
and the thicker the better (see skin depth). Wouldn't you know it: my
Athlon64's case is steel frame with thin aluminum panels. So, I guess
its case should be changed too.

Asthetics don't matter.

I'm wondering if in your travels, have any of you seen a case (tower,
desktop, or rackmount) that is:

-- of heavy steel frame and panels.

-- perhaps overlaping vents with no line-of-sight from the inside to the
outside.

-- lots of non-hot-swap drive space (unless hot-swap trays are included
or readily avilable). Front-accessible bays: floppy (old-board bios may
come on a floppy), CD, plus perhaps room for a future tape unit (2
half-height bays).

-- lots of card slots on the rear (in excess of MB) for e.g. motherboard
USB in lieu of front USB ports.

-- plus all the other normal good stuff for a case: great cooling, no
sharp edges, etc.

Front-panel USB is not important, especially if it has extra rear slots.
Front-panel sound is not important.

All the front panel needs is a power switch (preferably covered against
accidental pushing) with an on light, and perhaps a drive light.

If this rings a bell, could you let me know so I can track one down?

Thanks,

Doug.

Re: Setting up ADSL?

2008-02-09 Thread Joe

Zach wrote:

I am getting ADSL (728/128) next week and have some questions.

I run Debian lenny with a 2.6.18 kernel.

The DSL connection will use PPPoE and I'll be getting a static IP.

I guess I just need 1 ethernet cable to connect the DSL modem to my NIC right?

How do I setup the PPPoE account (username, password)?

The modem also has a built in 4 port router so how can I setup NAT (I
only have 1 machine now but plan to add more in the future)?

Modem/routers come in many different types. You will need to find out
what facilities it has, what its default IP address is and whether it
has a DHCP server. If it's a router it will deal with any PPPoE issues
itself. Typically, all it needs is the username and password, and it
will sort out the DSL parameters by itself. All configuration will be
done using a web browser, though some routers allow command-line
operation over Telnet of features that the web server doesn't offer.

How do I setup DHCP for my private addresses which NAT will use?

The modem/router will have a default range, if you're not happy with
that you can change it. NAT will be the default mode, you'd need to
configure bridging if you wanted that. Routers are fairly user-friendly
these days, the idea being that a typical Windows kiddie can just plug
in and go. The defaults will be good for most situations.

Anyone have a good basic firewall (especially example rules scripts!)
that I can put up?

Any modem/router made in the last few years will have a stateful packet
filtering firewall which is on by default, and which (probably) doesn't
forward anything by default. What it won't do is to filter things going
out, without specific configuration.

The jury is out over whether workstation firewalls are of any real use,
as malware with admin privileges can simply turn them off. Malware
without admin privileges is a minor annoyance.

Besides a plain firewall what else can I do to make my machine more
secure since it will be connected to the outside world nearly 24x7
from now on.

Don't forward any services from the Internet that you don't need. Make
sure the router's 'administer from the Internet' facility is disabled,
whatever it may be called. Change the admin password immediately from
the default, before you plug in the telephone line. Probably the router
will refuse to reply to pings from outside by default, but if it
doesn't, configure that.

Most of all, use a virus checker on any Windows machines on the system,
and teach the users not to do naughty things like accepting 'free'
screensavers and the like. Don't let them run as admins. Network
break-ins are almost never caused by routers with security bugs, but by
careless users. All networks would be better off without them.

Nothing whatever. You can't ignore an IP address until you've read what
it is, and 'flood' implies that your front-line machine will be fully
occupied just doing this. There is no defence other than telephoning
your ISP and asking them to block the relevant protocol, at least for a
time. First you have to reach someone at the ISP who knows what
'protocol' is.

2) Why didn't his ISP or even the ISP's upstream provider catch this
and automatically null route the offender?

Most ping floods and other DDOS attacks are distributed, coming from a
dozen or a hundred or a thousand different hijacked machines. It's rare
that they are done at random, the motive is usually financial, which
implies a commercial website of some kind. Renting out botnets, that is,
hundreds or thousands of hijacked computers, is big business, and they
are rarely deployed just for a laugh.

Also how can I manually bring my connection up and down?

There will be a place in the web configuration to do this, but in an
emergency don't forget the old low-technology method of pulling the plug
out.

Anyone know some good packages for logging network trafficing,
deciphering logs, getting useful reports etc?
If you log a lot I suppose there is no way to get around having to
read many log mails every day, the price of security eh?

You imply but don't say definitely whether you will have a computer
running continuously. A router will have a very limited amount of spare
RAM, and may well store only twenty or thirty log events. You need an
always-on computer running a syslog daemon (all *nix machines do)
configured to receive remote input, and to configure the router to send
log entries to it. I use logcheck to report once an hour, but with a lot
of filtering added (I don't really want to be told every hour which
machines asked for a DNS lookup). If you

Wouldn't it be just simpler to copy off the files in the stick and
reformat it to just one primary partition, and then restore
everything?

I'm not sure why you'd want multiple partitions on a USB stick anyway.

Hmmm, a carpenter could probably do it better with real wood. Not

Kevin,

The /etc/email-addresses wasn't set up properly but whatever is causing
these malformed addresses is overwriting mail user agent headers and is
unaffected by the contents of /etc/email-addresses apparently.
