Re: clics impossibles avec firefox en local
Sylvain Sauvage a écrit : maderios, mercredi 7 mai 2008, 09:51:56 CEST […] To: To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. My / partition is some 12GB and I see that it is currently 97% full. How can I clean this out without trashing important files? What should I be looking for in terms of likely culprits that can be deep-sixed safely? Thanks Andy try with this: # apt-get clean and then verify the free space with: df -h cheers, Hello all Thanks for the slew of rapid responses. Apologies for not giving sufficient info on my partitioning scheme. Here's the scoop: / = 12GB SWAP = 2.8GB /home = 168GB No separate /var /tmp, etc. Having run apt-get clean / is now down to 56%. I suspect that the balance of the usage is in /var with different logs and mail. As an aside, I seem to be missing approx 18GB of HD space - this is a 200GB HD, but adding the values given above totals 182GB. Strange, and I cannot track it down anywhere, and I don't dual-boot, so unless 200GB was listed on the packaging as an approximation, almost 20GB have gone AWOL. Anyway, thanks for the advice on clearing out the cruft. What I may well go and do is manually remove old, archived /var logs just to clear up more space. This second python is installed in /usr/local/bin/python. According to your path, /usr/local/bin is searched before /usr/bin. So, when you start python, /usr/local/bin/python is executed - instead of /usr/bin/python. As these two python interpreters have separated search pathes (sys.path in the python-interpreter), each one finds different modules. And the gtk-stuff is installed correctly in a place, which is found by /usr/bin/python, but not by /usr/local/bin/python. So the easiest might be to remove the second python-installation, and to copy the appropriate module files to a place where the standard-Debian-installation can find them. The configuration for the python-search path is documented in http://docs.python.org/lib/module-site.html You can try to modify the appropriate files, to let the second python interpreter find the other files - I think, a file /usr/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/python-support.pth with the contents /var/lib/python-support/python2.5 gtk-2.0 /var/lib/python-support/python2.5/gtk-2.0 should do it for gtk. But having to python-interpreters will probably result in the same problem with other modules ... Axel -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? IBM x3650 (7979) ServeRAID Problem
Hi, I'm trying to install Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 on a IBM eServer x3650 (Type: 7979, Model: KTG) server, but having trouble with ServeRAID 8k controller. I stucked at Detect disks step of the installation procedure. I tried installing aacraid, aic79xx, aic7xxx, aic7xxx_old drivers with no luck. For aic79xx, aic7xxx, aic7xxx_old drivers, Alt-F4 console continuously reported that kernel: program parted_dvices is using a deprecated SCSI ioctl, please convert it to SG_IO But aacraid produced no output. I also saw that aacraid has been already loaded before reaching to Detect disks step. IBM website has some links[1][2] for RedHat (OpenSuse, SCO, etc.) drivers but I couldn't manage to compile those RPMs from source using a vanilla 2.6.18 kernel tree. You can also check /var/log/syslog[3] file and dmesg[4], lspci -v[5] command outputs copied from installation console. If any other information is needed, just let me know. Re: [debian-user] How to copy a laptop HD?
Thanks to all replies... I got the cloning working. The recipe that finally worked was pretty similar to the dd provided but with some differences, because I couldn't get the MBR correctly working with other recipes, :( Suppositions: 1.- New HD is bigger than old one, so that the free space left is enough to contain the partition you'd like to get bigger. 2.- The partition to get bigger is the higher one (most to the right). 3.- There's a gParted live CD available or something that would allow resizing root partition (of course it can't be mounted then). Recipe: 1.- Clone entire HD from old HD into new one (dd if=/dev/hda of=/dev/sda). This will end up generating the exact old HD structure, but for some reason the higher partition (most to the right) can't get resized to a bigger one (as if it was of a fixed size), although cfdisk shows the free space that could be used. 2.- Halt and swap HD's. This will work out of the box, :)... 3.- Generate a higher partition, at the right of the currently higher one. Hopefully it'll end up being bigger or at least the same size as the one intended to be expanded. Generate its FS (mke2fs -j -L ... /dev/hda8) 4.- Clone the partition originally intended to be bigger into the new generated one (dd if=/dev/hda7 of=/dev/hda8). This will still show up weird things, like even though cfdisk will show some size for the new partition (in my case way bigger than originally intended partition to be expanded), df -h will say that the FS is exactly the same size as the originally copied. But that'll get overcome, :). 5.- Remove original partition just copied, which wasn't allowed to be extended. 6.- Reboot. At this point there's no problem with grub menu because hd8 became hda7 by removing the original partition, :). This is just to check everything went OK, and system could be rebooted, etc. 7.- Resize new generated partition. As this for me it was the root partition, I had to do it with a live CD, the gParted one. When using gParted, the weird thing about cloning the partition with dd still showed up. I saw a big partition, but mostly the size of the copied one showed up as used, which I knew was wrong... Any ways, expand the partition to the left (I didn't leave any free space to the right, so there was no room for expanding in that direction), meaning expanding from the header of the partition. At the end the partition is showed bigger, and with the right amount of data (which is less than the size of the copied partition even though at the beginning the used data was showed to be that big). 8.- Reboot the system, check with cfdisk, and df -h / for example, etc... I'm not sure why some things that were supposed to work as I was doing things before (like trying to clone the MBR without the partition table, etc) didn't work, but this just worked out... Looking for Audio/Video Tools
Hi! I'd like to produce a short movie and am looking at suggestions for some tools for doing so. The kind of workflow I thought about: -) Record audio tracks via some microphone and combining multiple tracks. -) Do some slide show with various photos. -) Combine them both through screen recording. What I could think of what could work is arranging the slide show in some presentation tool, staring the audio track in background, and recording it all with istanbul. That approach might look naive and unprofessional, but it's the thing that I could have come up with the tools that I know so far. I am thus open for suggestions to improve the workflow, try a different approach or even different workflow. Suggestions for the audio recording/track combining are also welcomed. bind9 crashing constantly in etch with no log output
Soon after I updated the recent SSL packages, I've had serious problems with bind9. All of my packages are up to date. I'm running etch on an Athlon XP1800+ with the k7 kernel, but I tried the 686 kernel too in case there was something about that, though it seemed unlikely. I'm running a nameserver for a number of domains (30 or so). It's run perfectly for years and years until now. I get nothing whatsoever in the log file when it crashes. If I run it in the foreground with -g I can get some output, though it varies. Sometimes I get this: *** glibc detected *** free(): invalid next size (fast): 0x0813cf40 *** Aborted (core dumped) That hex number varies, of course, and sometimes instead of (fast) it says (normal) But usually I just get Segmentation fault (core dumped) I can send the core files from /var/named to somebody if they can do anything with them. It usually runs for between 2 seconds and 5 minutes before having this happen - it seems to vary widely, but it never stays up for more than a few minutes (right now I can't get it to stay up for more than a few seconds) I don't think it's a hardware problem, since I don't have any problems with anything else on the system. I downloaded and compiled the latest version of bind and it doesn't seem to do this - it runs fine. However, I haven't made it into a package yet; guess I'll have to go read up on how to do that, since it doesn't have a debian/rules dir in the default tarfile. Has anybody else had this problem? It's very annoying :) Should I report this as a bug? Is more information needed? -- Wm. -- Wm. Strange, and I cannot track it down anywhere, and I don't dual-boot, so unless 200GB was listed on the packaging as an approximation, almost 20GB have gone AWOL. Run 'parted /dev/yourdisk' and in parted's prompt enter 'print'. It will tell you where each partition begins and ends. But, there still seems to be a missing 18GB of HD when I run df -h . Remember that, by default, df prints binary values, but hard drives are measured in decimal. So try df -H. Lastly, remember that df sees blocks, but du sees *files*. So, where du sees 3 files that are each 1KiB, fir a total of 3KiB, df sees them as each using 1 4KiB block, for a total of 12KiB. - -- Ron Johnson, Jr. Jefferson LA USA Thanks for that info Ron. When I run df -H the totals tally as expected! Thanks - I was getting a tad paranoid there!! Compilation on Big Endian platforms
Hi there, I was wondering what would be the easiest way to try my code on a big endian machine. I thought of buying a cheap G4 mac mini on ebay, install linux and then compile my project. But those machine are still a bit expensive for my budget. I have not investigated yet but is there a way to emulate big endian on little endian machine (boch, xen, vmware...). It seems the faqs.org search form is broken - I just get 'page not found' errors instead of results. Regards Adam -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble?
