Upcoming 7.1 (not 7.0.1?) release - upgrade from 6.0.7 possible?
I have not yet upgraded my system from 6.0.7 to 7.0 because I like to wait a couple of months before going to a new major version number on an OS upgrade. This is to allow for the initial bug shake-out phase which pretty much always happens. :-) There was just an announcement that 7.1 (not 7.0.1?) is going to be released June 15. Anyone have any ides regarding the upgrade from 6.0.7 to 7.1? Is it possible to do the direct migration like that, or should I upgrade from 6.0.7 to 7.0 now so that I can then do the direct migration from 7.0 to 7.1? I'm assuming that I'll be able to go from 6.0.7 to 7.1, but I figured I'd ask people who've been around Debian longer than I have. :-) Thanks! --Dave smime.p7s Description: S/MIME Cryptographic Signature

Last time I saw a CD-ROM on an older desktop, there was this thin 3-vein cable that needed to be connected from the drive to the sound card/motherboard. Besides the IDE and power cable. Forgetting that, I had the same issue: I could rip and list CD tracks, but could not play the CD directly using e.g. cdplayer.exe. (Yes, it was Windows). But some other players could do it---apparently they were using the IDE interface to access the PCM data, not just triggering drive's native play mode. aL. -- Alois Mahdal -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Re: AMD AGPUs, 3D acceleration, and linux-libre in Debian
The newer Richland APUs also should work, topping out with the A10-6800k. As for the GPU, I don't expect 3d will work w/o the binary firmware blobs. Even 2d might not work. And even if it does, there is still non-free video- bios on the apu, AIUI. (There certainly is on all discreet radeon cards.) You might be able to do a fully-Free-Software C32 or G34 board, but the on-board vga on those probably is not up to 3d. You can use a discreet card with the asus mb. Perhaps there is one w/o propietary blobs? Good luck. I'd be curious to know how it works out. -JimC -- James Cloos cl...@jhcloos.com OpenPGP: 1024D/ED7DAEA6 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. I don't care whether or not they are supported in linux-firmware-nonfree; I want this to work using 100% free software. I have linux-firmware-nonfree installed here on my desktop based on a E350. It's not even for 3D (which I never use), but it was needed just to get console output, IIRC.
