I noticed that for quite a few days now a dist-upgrade to Sid will:

The following packages will be REMOVED:
 xserver-xorg-video-openchrome xserver-xorg-video-siliconmotion

I haven't tried the dist-upgrade myself because of it.

Do either you or the OP own either a VIA Unichrome video card (which the

No.

If not, then the removal of drivers which don't apply to your system

Out of interest, I just tried to download it. I got: "Not available for your
platform". In red letters in case I missed it. I clicked on "Download
Anyway", but it wouldn't. It just sat there still saying: "Not available for

Windows share problem is back

2016-02-03 Thread Steve Matzura
After a couple system reboots for various things, mostly some hardware
changes, adding disks, etc., my Windows shares aren't mounting any
more, plus I'm getting a console error that the mount failed error
connecting to socket, error 115 mount operation in progress, etc. What
I want to know, aside from the obvious (what'd I do to break this),
is, what can I do on the Debian side to view what network resources
are out there for mounting? My NAS mounts all work just fine, so
what's up with the Windows side?

resolution? or how do you connect them to the machine - cable or power
source?
I don't have experience with 2 LVDS - how do you connect them - curious?

LVDS is

Low Voltage Differential Signalling output (typically a laptop LCD panel).
Available properties:

BACKLIGHT - current backlight level (adjustable)
By adjusting the BACKLIGHT property, the brightness on the LVDS output can
be adjusted. In some cases, this property may be unavailable (for example
if your platform uses an external microcontroller to control the
backlight).
scaling mode - control LCD panel scaling mode
When the currently selected display mode differs from the native panel
resolution, various scaling options are available. These include
Center
Simply center the image on-screen without scaling. This is the only scaling
mode that guarantees a one-to-one correspondence between native and
displayed pixels, but some portions of the panel may be unused
(so-called "letterboxing").
Full aspect
Scale the image as much as possible while preserving aspect ratio. Pixels
may not be displayed one-to-one (there may be some blurriness). Some
portions of the panel may be unused if the aspect ratio of the selected
mode does not match that of the panel.
Full
Scale the image to the panel size without regard to aspect ratio. This is
the only mode which guarantees that every pixel of the panel will be used.
But the displayed image may be distorted by stretching either horizontally
or vertically, and pixels may not be displayed one-to-one (there may be
some blurriness).
The precise names of these options may differ depending on the kernel video
driver, (but the functionality should be similar). See the output of
xrandr --prop for a list of currently available scaling modes.

My experience has been that the 4 pin fans work just fine with a 3 pin
header. The 4th pin is an extra mode to control the fan but most
motherboards can also use the older 3 pin method. The connector is built
to allow that to happen.

yes i had hard time figuring this issue.
Adding "video=DP-2:d" fixed this issue. Now i am able to control both
the displays (HDMI and LVDS)

Here comes my next problem:
I have two LVDS monitor for testing.

Model 1 : 400Nits
When this LVDS display is connected i see clear output in the screen

Mode2 : 1000Nits
Screen output is smudgy all time..

What could be the problem

try with 1024x768 on both displays with the mode option or via arandr

I think this will work for both. Then you can probably work around with
the --scale-from on the DVI

It is however strange you get the HDMI as DVI - could be driver specific to
this intel chip.

You can try the latest driver from xorg and you can ask in the xorg/intel

OP here.

Hugo, no I have an ATI card. I think I've narrowed this down. Yesterday
morning when I upgraded just prior to posting, 'apt' asked me to remove
'libbasicusageenvironment0' which I happily did.
Once I re-installed that and restarted GNOME, video was working again.
So, perhaps 'apt' screwed up by asking for it's removal, what do you
think?

Good Morning:

Not sure what package to file a bug against, so here goes explaining the
issue.

After this mornings update to SID, I no longer have video working (won't
play). So, what package would be relevant - this is media streams in
browser, both Google-Chrome and IceWeasel are affected as it seems
Gnome's native video player. VLC is working fine.

So, would that mean GStreamer?

I noticed that for quite a few days now a dist-upgrade to Sid will:

The following packages will be REMOVED:
 xserver-xorg-video-openchrome xserver-xorg-video-siliconmotion

I haven't tried the dist-upgrade myself because of it.

Do either you or the OP own either a VIA Unichrome video card (which the
openchrome driver supports) or a SiliconMotion Lynx or Cougar video card
(which the siliconmotion driver supports)?

If not, then the removal of drivers which don't apply to your system
shouldn't affect you.

Re: grub-installer: NVMe boot drives not supported ?

2016-02-03 Thread Lukasz Szybalski
Hello,
So the issue seemed to be a bios settings.
By default the system is set up for some sports of intel recovery raid.
Dell e7470 Samsung NVME 512GB. I presume this will be the case for all m.2
connected devices on dell latitude line.
Changing the SATA controls to AHCI or "disable sata" leaving only m.2
causes the disk to show up in legacy boot and it gets detected by installer
on debian stable.

As far as grub it does fail during installation.
You do need to follow part of the:
http://www.poweredbyjeff.com/2015/10/29/Intel-750-SSD-in-Debian-Jessie/

cd /target
mount --rbind /proc proc/
mount --rbind /sys sys/
mount --rbind /dev dev/
mount --rbind /run run/
chroot . /bin/bash

then

apt-get update
apt-get install grub-efi-amd64

update-grub
grub-install
#grub-install failed saying no target specified...so you need to point it
at the disk.

grub-install /dev/nvme0n1
#it should say install successful or something along these lines.

Then continue without boot...

Why the grub-install fails I'm not sure. I noticed only grub-common
was installed if that makes any differencebut anyway.

Thanks

Luca
