nope. I had at least two HP5M for free ten years ago... they died 
recently. There are ps compatible printer for cheap for years now.


for pdf, I only have seen this on news papers, but the subject computer 
being airprint compatible must have some inside device, and it's not cheap.


I spoke of gutenprint because I have a Canon photo thermal printer that 
prints jpeg from cards, but not from computer (!), so need a driver. It 
was not at this time available on linux, but gutenprint mailing list 
user asked me to make some tests and could with this give me a solution.


the people there knows incredibly well the printers :-)

and, by the way, if we use proprietary hardware, and proprietary 
BIOS/UEFI, why not proprietary drivers...

He seguido atento este hilo ya que estoy en algo parecido relacionado con
monitoreo.

Hice hace un par de años un software para monitoreo de alarmas comunitarias
con notificaciones vía sms, se llamaba usaga (micro sistema de monitoreo de
alarmas).

Desde hace un año más o menos trabajo en una empresa donde hay varias
sucursales (450) cada uno con un pc que hace de servidor.

Mi trabajo es ver que estos servidores estén operativos y principalmente
sql server.

Cabe mensionar que no trabajo como desarrollador y para monitorear esos
servidores no disponíamos de una herramienta para tal fin. Sólo nos dábamos
cuenta algo no estaba bien cuando recibíamos las llamadas de las sucursales
quejándose de que algo no funciona.

Así que me di a la tarea modificar el software que tenía de hace años para
adaptarlo a lo que se va necesitando y ahora lo usamos para el monitoreo y
nos ayuda a preveer

Yup, that they do.  They also cost around 35,000 USD to put it on YOUR 
floor. And the sw in the $35,000 Minolta dies on about page 102 when 
trying to print a pdf book.  And Minolta's factory techs couldn't fix 
it, so I wound up using a pdf maker, feeding it 100 pages at a time, and 
fed that to the Minolta.  Heck of a way to run a train.

To compare, running the Brother drivers into an HL-3170CDW here, a low 
end color laser I bought for something over $400 USD 3 years ago, I have 
fed it several pdf's over 500 pages, biggest pdf was 674 pages, which it 
printed in duplex mode slowly because turning the paper over takes 
longer than print one side, and the only problem was a couple of paper 
jams.  And guess what?  When it jams, and you clear the jam, it reprints 
both sides of the damaged sheet without any prompting.  What more could 
I ask? Brighter colors on normal $8 a ream paper.  But thats it.

As a happy user of two Brother printers, using Brothers drivers, the OP 
should be well aware that he will spend weeks of time poking at just one 
printer, to come up with a driver that does half of what the Brother 
driver can do, and quite likely poorer, and slower than the Brother 
driver. Principles I guess are nice when you step into the voting booth, 
but not when following them on nothing more than a rumor he heard from 
somebody with a bad taste for Brother, makes zero sense.  The ones I am 
using Just Work(TM).

I am of the opinion that this thread has run its coarse as he has refused 
to do the sensible thing here, and the refusal was stated up front.

Hello,

Sur quel environnement tout tourne ? J'ai un écran 4k (3840x2160), et si en 
effet l'affichage au premier démarrage est minuscule, j'ai été dans Gnome Tweak 
(j'utilise Gnome Shell) et j'ai simplement agrandi le ratio de la taille de la 
police.

Il reste parfois quelques applications qui s'affichent toujours en petit 
(certaines en QT je crois), mais dans l'ensemble ça marche très bien.

trays and put the output in little collated stacks. They also stand

Je viens d'acheter un grand écran, un 2K, 2560 x 1440.

J'ai un résultat superbe en full HD (1920 x 1080).
Mais en 2K, c'est horrible.
Et les consoles sont illisibles.

J'ai vérifié avant mon achat les capacités de ma carte graphique, une GeForce 
210.
Mais sa résolution max en numérique est de 2560x1600.

Je ne vois pas trop par quel bout prendre la chose.

Pour transformer du xml rien de mieux que xslt, et ce n'est pas plus 
compliqué que les expressions régulières. Je peux donner un coup de main 
pour démarrer.


Le xml produit à l'air assez sophistiqué, cela ressemble un peu à du 
docbook pour la construction de la table et je suis assez surpris qu'il 
n'existe pas un schéma et une feuille de styles associés.

I don't understand this statement. If a printer doesn't have a PS
interpreter (or emulation thereof), are you saying that it acquires
one by virtue of supporting AirPrint?

Según leo en el bug, sí, esa es la idea. Que la próxima actualización del
navegador se pase de un paquete "iceweasel" a otro "firefox-esr" en
Jessie.


Pues en mi Debian Stretch (testing), de la rama inestable ya he pasado 
de iceweasel 44 a firefox-esr 45, con su logo y todo.

Pues la razón principal fue la escalabilidad.
En Nagios cada host+servicios están definidos en un servidor, mientras
que en Icinga2, se definen en un master (en nuestro caso) y manda
hacer los chequeos de forma distribuida a un pool de servidores
satelites.
Los chequeos de cada máquina no tienen que hacerse por el mismo
satelite, sino que igual 3/4 chequeos los hace uno, otros tantos otro
y así. Luego cada uno le manda la info al master, que lo unificada en
la DB y la interfaz gráfica (IcingaWeb2) lee de ahí para mostrar los
datos de la máquina en cuestión.

Así si empiezas a tener retardos a la hora de hacer chequeos porq
tiene más encolado de lo de que da abasto, tan solo añades otro
satelite más y listo.

En Nagios si añades un servidor más, tienes que dar de alta las
máquinas en el nuevo servidor y darlos de baja en el otro
(que si, que es sólo copiar archivos, pero ya tienes que controlar que
máquinas están en cada servidor Nagios).

Pongo un ejemplo:
Ahora mismo como hacemos para monitorizar el log de sistema (esto
viene del histórico), leemos en el /var/log/messages y buscamos los
patrones que nos indican los sysadmin (kernel error, etc). Si
encontramos el patrón, hace un exit 1 y echo "Se ha encontrado el
siguiente error blablabla".
Y guardamos cual fue la última linea del log.

Ahora bien, en el siguiente chequeo, empieza a leer desde la última
linea leida, con lo cual, si no machea con ningún patron, hace un exit
0 y pinta que está todo OK, pero no es cierto! Porq anteriormente
encontró un error (supongamos...).
Normalmente no hay un ACK del error, que nos indique que se ha solucionado..
No se si me he explicado bien...

Por ahora salta el CRITICAL en la consola de Icinga2 hasta que cambia
de estado...q es a los 5 minutos, cuando se produce el siguiente
chequeo...si el operador no se da cuenta y no crea la alerta...estamos
jodidos.

No es como en OVO, que salta la alarma y ahí se queda hasta que
alguien la trata...

I have been reading this thread a bit at a time.  I am bemused.  Why, if you 
want life simple, and Free, etc., go for an AIO, which are notoriously 
troublesome?  Why not go for a simple Brother laser printer?  (If you want

Igualmente, voy a ver de volver a mi viejo amor de IceWeasel, pues como

Comparto la idea, creo que es positivo que quien trabaje con Azure tenga 
la opción de instalar Debian de manera sencilla. Si quieres vencer al 
Balrog hay que adentrarse en las entrañas de Minas Moria.

Yo no le veo relación alguna con la problemática de la elección de 
systemd, sinceramente, creo que lo de ésta última es peor, mucho peor que 
esta noticia de Azure. De hecho veo que hay varias distribuciones 
catalogadas como "azure-endorsed" y no todas son versiones de linux 
comerciales (que sería lo esperable) sino que hay versiones comunitarias.

Busca un pincho que te guste y luego mira a ver qué chipset tiene, si 
está en la lista de los libres pues adelante. Yo tengo dos pinchos de 
esos wifi: uno es el MSI US300EX (chipset "RT2870") y el otro es 
Conceptronic C54RU (chipset "RT2560").

Espero que esas "circunstancias" no fueran simplemente el fallo del 
montaje de la partición windows. Y menos mal que tras instalar MATE te 
funciona porque si no estarías en un bucle instalatorio perpetuo, un 
vórtice espacio-tiempo del que no podrías salir >:-)

as far as I know you need the packages from the Brother site. As soon you got 
them installed, start a browser and go to http://localhost:631

Then there should a gui start, where you can configure your printer.

this printer seems to be recent and flexible. Chance is he may be a pdf 
printer.


Did you try to send him a pdf without any filter? or try printing a pdf 
from a ssd card?

I'm guessing that you could disable the lxpanel plugin and simply not
build it.

But I have no idea how hard it would be to make the necessary changes
to the packaging scripts.

Jawel hoor. Bijvoorbeeld in de useragent-string.
Uiteraard is dat wel te wijzigen, alles is te wijzigen.

Bij bijvoorbeeld het CAK testen ze echt. Daar supporten ze bijvoorbeeld
ook alleen Firefox ESR omdat je anders elke paar weken weer moet gaan
testen. De klant krijgt e-mails over welke browser ondersteund wordt, en
dat andere na 1 april o.i.d. niet meer werken. Het gaat ze daar vooral

En als clubs als Marktplaats een screenshot eist voordat men wil
antwoorden, dan is het lastig. Een screenshot omdat inloggen traag
werkt. Pfff, net of je dat op een screenshot kunt zien.

Yup. If it were easy and simple, it would probably already be in
backports.

Hopefully you won't need to chase too many layers of
dependencies.

Pues solo tienes que irte al kernel y ver que módulos soporta.
(Fijándote siempre en el chipset que usan)
Todos los que están en el kernel son compatibles lógicamente.

Pero bueno yo lo que quería comentarte es que a mi me pasa algo
parecido con uno con chip ralink que tengo.
Funciona muy bien para auditoría, pero a la hora de usarlo para
navegar en modo managed me pasa como a ti.

Lo que hice es de forma manual bajarle la velocidad de conexión,
pasando de auto a una fija con iwconfig.
iwconfig wlan0 rate 11M   (hay que ser root para esto)
Prueba con varias velocidades, 6M 5,5M, 1M. (No recuerdo donde venían
los valores válidos, no vale cualquiera)

No, no es ifconfig, es iwconfig y solo es para wifi.

Puedes cambiar la velocidad de una ehternet con otras herramientas,
ethtool o algo así creo.
Busca en google: cambiar velocidad ethernet en linux.

Let's take a step back and examine the issue.

I apologize for the message in italian, my fault. The question was on how
to resume a netinstall installation interrupted due to the unavailability
of the network.
As you may knowm, in this condition Debian is installaed with a very
minimal configuration. Just to inform you all how I solved the problem:

1) The file /etc/apt/sources.list was empty. I created it with the standard
content [1]
2) apt-get install update
2) Then I have been able to install tasksel and to procede with the
installation of gnome [2]

"Probably", "maybe" and "I don't know"?

Note that the original poster wanted to change the default directory of
current shell (process). If you launch a different process (like "find")
it has its own idea of current working directory which it can change.
That's why a shell _function_ is a the solution.

Buenos días a todos.

Hoy me ha sucedido algo de lo más curioso.

Soy usuario de "chromium", dada la ventaja que me permite tener 
sincronizado los navegadores de las tres computadoras que uso normalmente.


Por el tema de la salida de soporte de Chrome a las distribuciones de 32 
bits, por el hecho de tener que modificar el repositorio para que en mi 
sistema multiarch amd64 no trate de bajar el correspondiente a i386, 
porque no lo uso, y porque sí no más, purgué "google-chrome-stable".


Mágicamente, en Chromium, se complicó la operación de las descargas a 
través de KDialog.
Explico: mando bajar un enlace (foto, lo que sea), se abre el cuadro de 
KDialog y debo esperar casi un minuto hasta que se digna habilitar el 
botón "Abrir", que permite iniciar la bajada del archivo respectivo.


La solución: volver a instalar "google-chrome-stable".

Me dejó anonadado.

Si alguno tiene alguna idea de lo que pasa, por favor, comparta.

Sven, tks.  I'd used "ls -lg /" but that didn't list "/".

Checked now, and fixed.  For the topic, sshd was - indeed -

Installing topmenu in stable

In short, I want to install the MATE topmenu applet in Debian stable
(Jessie). However, the packages required are not in the stable
distribution, only in stretch and sid. What is the best way to go about
getting the packages installed?

Should I compile them from the sources available at git.javispedro.com?
Should I just grab the packages from the stretch distribution without
updating the rest? (This would result in a FrankenDebian though- so many
dependencies would have to be updated to get these things installed I
might just upgrade to stretch anyway) Should I upgrade my entire system
to Stretch? (I don't really want to do this- I like my stability,
generally) Should I grab the packages from the Ubuntu PPA, and update
as necessary? Will this cause problems?

I'm thinking the most Debian-friendly options are either to compile
them myself from git, or to upgrade to stretch, which I don't really
want to do.

No it is pragmatics!
And a lot of people waste time in vain - including me in the past. 

In the present situation we do not know what is the context and why OP is
trying to do it this way.
Some concerns regarding binaries was raised - but why in first place you by
Brother device? And in this context - Do you think Linux is secure enough?

Anyway - everyone is free to do what s/he wants. Some people need more time
to get smarter. For me it was 32y.

aléatoire et espérer que ça fonctionne.

xsltproc stylesheet.xslt jmb1.xml

Avec ce qu'il faut dans la feuille XSLT pour transformer le
XML en CSV.

Bueno, no se si las cosas son tan idílicas. A mi con gmail también me
ha llegado alguno de esos mensajes.
Lo cierto es que el protocolo de correo está diseñado para tratar de
que no se produzcan fallos, y establece un mecanismo de aviso cuando
por el motivo que sea no puede enviar un correo al destinatario,
avisando al remitente de este hecho.
Dado que una lista es un proceso automático e intentar reenviar los
mensajes fallidos sería complicado y en cierto modo peligroso, han
optado por mandar este correo para indicarte que en un cierto período
de tiempo se
han producido algunos errores.

No, no es ifconfig, es iwconfig y solo es para wifi.

Puedes cambiar la velocidad de una ehternet con otras herramientas,
ethtool o algo así creo.
Busca en google: cambiar velocidad ethernet en linux.

Debian stable gebruikt de ESR versie, en loopt niet achter:

Mocht je de "release" versie voor consumenten willen, dan kun je hier

Ook de laatste beta en aurora (=alpha) versies zijn daar te vinden.

Pues solo tienes que irte al kernel y ver que módulos soporta.
(Fijándote siempre en el chipset que usan)

No sé exactamente a que se debe, pero debe ser que en bajas
velocidades tiene mayor sensibilidad o que en el cambio dinámico de
velocidades que hace, pierde la conexión.

Nee, behalve in de bovenste blauwe balk van de windowmanager staat
nergens "ik ben Iceweasel". Verder zou ik gewoon m'n mond houden over
Iceweasel, het gaat er niet om dat ze geen support *kunnen* leveren
maar dat ze dan een mooie reden hebben om je af te poeieren en ze zich
zo niet met jouw problemen hoeven bezig te houden.

Bij KPN eist men dat er een experia box aan de lijn hangt. Bij
oplevering van de lijn verdwijnt die meuk linea recta de vuilnisbak in,
maar ik zeg ze doodleuk dat er zo'n ding aan hangt en pas dan kunnen ze
de lijn meten.

Die gasten in het ingehuurde callcenter werken met een script en als
daar iets anders komt dan het antwoord "IE" of "firefox" dan staat er
een pijl naar "exit" en dus moet je gewoon zeggen "firefox" want dat
kennen ze wel.

Nederland is een heel tolerant land, maar je moet wel heel precies het
formuliertje invullen.
