[Desktop Entry]
Name=Firefox
Name[es]=Firefox
Comment=Browse the World Wide Web
Comment[es]=Navegue por la web
GenericName=Web Browser
GenericName[es]=Navegador web
X-GNOME-FullName=Firefox Web Browser
X-GNOME-FullName[es]=Navegador web Firefox
Exec=/usr/lib/firefox/firefox %u
Terminal=false
X-MultipleArgs=false
Type=Application
Icon=firefox
Categories=Network;WebBrowser;
MimeType=text/html;text/xml;application/xhtml+xml;application/xml;application/vnd.mozilla.xul+xml;application/rss+xml;application/rdf+xml;image/gif;image/jpeg;image/png;x-scheme-handler/http;x-scheme-handler/https;
StartupWMClass=Firefox
StartupNotify=true

Y cambia únicamente estas líneas que tenías:

Exec=/opt/firefox/firefox %u
Icon=/opt/firefox/browser/chrome/icons/default/default128.png

think they have a fix, it can go through the normal process...

Debian doesn't support downgrading of packages.

When dpkg installs another version of a package (typically newer)
it
basically overwrites the existing version and runs the
corresponding
package scripts from the to be installed version.

A newer package may introduce changes that the older package
(scripts)
can't deal with. In practice it does work in many cases, except for
those where it doesn't. Fixing them would require a time machine ;)

A roll-back, especially if automatic, could introduce more issues
than
it fixes.

Someone(tm) has to determine on a case by case basis whether
rolling
back makes sense and the system administrator is in the best
position to
do so.

In theory the package Maintainer could provide a general "hint"
that
system administrators could chose to ignore (at their own risk).

Currently the infrastructure for this doesn't exist[1] and,
besides, I'd
rather have Maintainers focus on fixing the newer package instead.

  Volunteer time is precious!

[1] it would need support in the Debian archive software and APT at
a
minimum.

Besides, there is already an arguably safer (though hackish) way to
achieve that by uploading a package with
version+really.the.old.version
instead.

In this case the Maintainer can also take care to adjust the
package
scripts accordingly.

Random example found on my system:

$ rmadison fonts-font-awesome

I hear you, but the issue is that if I revert to a previous version,
then I have to hold it to stop the buggy version from clobbering it
every day. And I have to monitor the Testing version for changes to
see
when a fix is potentially available so I can remove the hold.

Not just me but every user who is experiencing the bug also has to do
this.

There is a kludge for this if the buggy version didn't contain
critical
security fixes - re-release the previous version with a slightly
higher
version number than the buggy one (e.g. 3.7.0-5a). When the bug is
(finally) fixed, give the fixed version a slightly higher number
still
(e.g. 3.7.0.5b).

Again this would only be done where it appears that fixing the bug
may
take time (it's been over a month now). If I were to do the
alternative
- pull packages from Sid - I have no real indication if they fix it
or
introduce even worse problems.

I can only assume that the reason a fix hasn't made it down through
Sid
yet is that it's not simple. My suggestion isn't to make more work
for
maintainers but rather to take the time pressure off them without
leaving us testers to jump through hoops.

Hi,

What appears to be the fixed version is in sid (3.7.0-7). It has to
pass in sid for 10 days before migration to testing, see below link.

https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/gnutls28

https://metadata.ftp-master.debian.org/changelogs//main/g/gnutls28/gnutls28_3.7.0-7_changelog

My testing with filezilla, shows all to be working once more, though
testing has been limited.

Regards

Phil

Confirmed. Seems to work. You need to install libnettle and libgnutls
from Sid as well.

Debian/Busteris still using Network Manager not systemd to control the

Well, systemd as init is starting everything so that necessarily
includes starting "the network", which in practice means starting
whatever network management framework is in use[1].

The 'networking.service' service is part of ifupdown, Debian's default
network management framework (Priority: important).

Network Manager is Priority: optional and typically installed as a
Depends/Recommends of Desktop Environments.

[1] this is applicable even for systemd's own network management
framework systemd-networkd, which is included in the 'systemd' Debian
package, but not activated by default.

Kind regards,

Sorry, it was midnight when I replied. However the failure is likely

instalar Firefox 85 en debian 10

2021-02-17 Thread miguel angel gonzalez
Hola,

85.0.2 y desinstalado Firefox ESR.

[Desktop Entry]
Name=Firefox Stable
Comment=Web Browser
Exec=/opt/firefox/firefox %u
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Icon=/opt/firefox/browser/chrome/icons/default/default128.png
Categories=Network;WebBrowser;
MimeType=text/html;text/xml;application/xhtml+xml;application/xml;application/vnd.mozilla.xul+xml;application/rss+xml;application/rdf+xml;x-scheme-handler/http;x-scheme-handler/https;
StartupNotify=true
/home/user/.local/share/applications.

Muchas gracias.

Un saludo.

Note that in this context, 'serif' isn't an attribute, but a "generic
font family". Namely the one where you'll find Times and sisters.

So unless the browser is downright malicious it'll pick a non-monospaced
font. If it's malicious, its user will hopefully know...

Will try that, thanks.

Really, two attributes are involved: serifing and spacing.
Specification of both should be possible. Eg.
font-family: serif & monospace
font-family: sans-serif & monospace
font-family: serif & varispace
font-family: sans-serif & varispace

The syntax I've seen allows only one attribute: either spacing or
sarifing. And varispace is not included. A CSS committee might be
working on it; bit by bit.

I mean, that's easy, but it doesn't solve the stated problem.
Each VM is a notional machine, and each machine has one MTA.

It's probably great for learning about all the MTAs, but the
original requester desperately wants to install multiple MTAs
on the same machine at the same time.

Again, as stated at the start of this fiasco of a thread, Debian policy
says that all daemons must be started up by default.

Well anyway, everything that is relevant has already been stated, and
we're in the reruns now, so ... enjoy reliving this time loop as many

I entirely agree, and that's why I wrote

  Who's putting in the work to actually make two MTAs coexist?
  Is this productive use of their time?

But these discussions often head off into odd territory, which here
seems to be:

. Break apt's conflicts mechanism and that'll fix it (just for me).
  - alternatives/dummy package appear to be able to avoid the necessity.

. Extend the alternatives mechanism and that'll fix it.
  - AIUI alternatives is aimed at a different target.

. Other distributions manage this easily.
  - what mechanism are they actually using? (rather than a
reference to a package or heap of code).

The only realistic suggestion I've read here is from tomás,
who seems to be expressing some sort of shim dispatcher.
And I await a thought-out solution from the virtualisation crowd.

Maybe enough from the "peanut gallery".

Cheers,
David.

I think what he's wanting is a case which would allow installing
busybox-static, but not insist on removing busybox. (Or the equivalent
in his actual use-case, where the files installed by the two packages
might not actually overlap.)

Where that runs into trouble is that even if the *files* don't overlap,
other resources which the package needs to control exclusively quite
possibly do - the most prominent example, from the discussion at hand
regarding MTAs, being port 25.

Hi Klaumi,

Your message helped me solve the problem.

It turned out that setting the microphone level in Input devices
unlocked the recording volume setting, and ever since this setting the
volume in "Recording" tab works!

Now I have been able to lower the volume and get the microphone working
back to sensible levels.

Thank you so much!

pulseaudio records too high

2021-02-17 Thread José Luis González
Hi,

I have problems recording audio with pulseaudio. Recording volume is
noticeably too high: there is a lot of background noise and my voice on
a loop test sounds completely distorted and too loud.

The problem is I can't change recording volume at all. If I lower
volume, recording volume doesn't change, even if I set it to silence.

I'm experiencing this with Skype and Teams, but it happens with other
apps as well. For instance, a web mic test shows the same problem.

It's been happening since today (probably). Several days ago I was
using the microphone without problems. The only thing I did that may
have to do with it today is installing Bluetooth packages and the
dependencies (and tarball) for SoundWire Server.

Anybody can help, please?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Eduard,

https://www.aoc.cat/knowledge-base/claus-publiques/

En concret:

https://www.aoc.cat/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/2020_arxiucp.zip.

I donar-li confiança màxima.

Kind regards,
Andrei

importar-los...

I know little technical details about the Debian package manager,
from an end user's perspective, the package manager should give the user
the choise not to uninstall a wanted package,
if the user don't give a choise, the package manager can perform the
default action to remove the package.
I think this method is a better default behavior for the package manager
for some similar packages.

aleshores l'aplicació Autofirma l'utilitza d'allà, i ja no cal connectar
un lector de DNI.

Ara he provat l'Okular a Debian 10 i, a diferència de l'Evince, informa
d'allò que dóna problemes. Per exemple, aquesta versió informa que no
admet formularis XFA.

Re: networking.service fails

Dear Debian community,

I am puzzled with the following problem. When my Debian 10.8 starts, the unit

   Process: 691 ExecStart=/sbin/ifup -a --read-environment (code=exited,

however network is working just fine. I looked into
/usr/lib/systemd/system/networking.service where

TimeoutStartSec=5min

and also set a big timeout for br0 in /etc/network/interfaces:

auto lo
auto eth0
auto eth1
iface lo inet loopback
auto br0
iface br0 inet static
 ...
 bridge_ports eth0 eth1
 bridge_maxwait 60

but still the error occurs each time. Relative dmesg logs are:

Debian/Busteris still using Network Manager not systemd to control the
network so I think the network.service shouldn't be used.

I don't know how many interfaces you have but you seem to be using a
bridge to at least one of them. The network bridge would bring up the
physical interface. The physical interface should be listed in
interfaces as something like:

    iface eth0 inet manual

The listing of eth0 and eth1 (and even br0) may be obsolete. Try doing
ifconfig as root to see what interfaces are actually7 active (since you
say the network is running). These days they are frequently something
like enp4s0.

Re: awstats, how to see in a browser?

apt/synaptic installed so I assume you mean /var/www etc

Hi Gene,

actually I meant the path part in the URL, so if you reach your web
server on localhost on the HTTP protocol, then the URL would be
http://localhost/cgi-bin/awstats.pl

ene@coyote:/var/www/cgi-bin$ ls -R

It looks like you have a lot of CGI scripts installed, so the only way
to find out how to reach the awstats page is to read the Apache
configuration.

First, check if you have /etc/apache2/conf-available/awstats.conf (as
described in /usr/share/doc/awstats/README.Debian.gz).
Further, is that config enabled? Does the symbolic link
/etc/apache2/conf-enabled/awstats.conf exist?

What is the content of that file?

ss -nlpt
A new to me command but:

Hmm, sorry, I should have said that you need to run this command as
root, otherwise you won't see all services, and it won't show you the
process name. `ss` is a replacement for the `netstat` command.

I think I was too cryptic, sorry: I meant co-installable as, e.g.
PostgreSQL does with its different versions: you have to crack the
resources nut anyway, and then, what's the "alternatives" thing for,
anyway?

Alternatives make only sense in the presence of user interaction:
I invoke "vi" and get presented with whatever-incarnation-of-vi
is currently The One. I invoke "man vi", likewise. Still, I can
invoke (explicitly) "vim", "man vim".

What I meant by co-installable: both MTAs are up and running,
each one possibly with an own listening port [1], each one with
a different /var/spool//mail. Or something.
No alternatives.

Cheers

[1] Other avenues seem worth considering, i.e. some kind of
   protocol proxy which dispatches to the different MTAs
   based on first handshake steps, what not.
