A Debian package a day keeps the ignorance away

2004-03-17 Thread Andrew Sweger
I have set up a service that publishes the name and description of a
different Debian GNU/Linux package every day. My goal is to encourage
people to explore Debian more and discover great software they might not
know was there (with over ten thousand packages, it's easy to overlook a
few gems). It is implemented using a LiveJournal free account called
debaday (sounds Australian to me now). Please feel free to pass this
information on to other groups you think may be interested.

Anyone can read an HTML version of the current postings at:

  http://www.livejournal.com/users/debaday/

The service is also freely available as as RSS feed at the following URL:

  http://www.livejournal.com/users/debaday/data/rss

Information about the service and how you can suggest packages to add to
the playlist can be found on the debaday userinfo page at:

  http://www.livejournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=debaday

If you're a LiveJournal user, you may simply add debaday to your reading
list (i.e., friends list) with the following link (you must be logged
into your LiveJournal account):

  http://www.livejournal.com/friends/add.bml?user=debaday

I'm having a very simple problem with postfix and aliases.
Here is an extract of my /etc/aliases file:

 webmaster: root
 root: user
 postmaster: root

 I issued the command $postmap /etc/aliases

And when someone send a mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED], I don' receive
 it.

Have you tried (as root):

# newaliases

(Works with postfix on Debian 3.0)

How about giving to SPI?

But I feel that it is important that I make some contribution to the

Re: Quick question on controllers

2002-05-31 Thread Andrew Sweger
I personally like the 3ware cards. I've had stability problems with
certain cards that promised (*cough*) to do better. I just installed four
pair of 3ware's 7850's in four machines and they work great. Plus, if you
go with the 7410 and later decide you do want RAID, you're all set to
go. Keep in mind that RAID 5 on the 7410 will be s-l-o-w. Instead you
would want the 7450.

 4 x 160 Gig Maxtor D540X133's.
Not going to be using raid.
Using these to store disk images, so speed isn't really an issue, only
 reliability and stability under 2.4.x

 Here's my options so far:

 2 x Promise Ultra133TX2's
 or
 1 3ware 7410?

Debian expert, Irvine, CA (was: Q: How to find people with Debian skills)

2002-05-31 Thread Andrew Sweger
My original question (below) prompted a bit of a discussion regarding what
the appropriate forum for posting job advertisements should be. With
respect to the comments made in that discussion, I will not use the Debian
mail lists to advertise for a Debian expert in the Irvine, CA area. The
debian-user list is clearly not the place to look for Debian experts.

Re: woody installation problem

2002-05-18 Thread Andrew Sweger
Ditto. I have consistently encountered this error with the 20020416
netinst image for the last week or so. At first, I thought it was a bad
installer. However, I also get the error Malformed Release when using
the 20020215 netinst image which had been working just fine previously.
This is when using either http.us.debian.org or a local mirror. So far,
it's been a head scratcher. Is the dists/woody/Release file really
malformed (that's the one it chokes on)? Beats me. All of my machines
continue to perform apt-get update/upgrade/install just fine. I just can't
build new ones right now. I haven't really dug into the issue, so I don't
have anything helpful to contribute.

components. I've tried the vanilla and bf-2.4 set of disks but both
produce the same error. I've also tried other mirrors but I get the
same error. Has anyone encountered the same problem?
