My gut instinct is that something like udev is unloading the mouse after a while of inactivity; it should reload it, as I understand things, when needed. I tried it and absolutely no garbage was produced. How could I reload the mouse? I don't remember if the mouse only stops after inactivity... Mouse freezing
Hallo! I have a strange problem with the mouse freezing on an Asus L5000. I am observing this for a long time now, and really don't have any more idea what the problem could be. The first install I did was sarge 64bit version, about 2 Years ago. As it was not stable enough and I could not get all things running (epson scanner) I switched to the 32bit version after a while After this I installed kubuntu breezy, made then an update to dapper. After this I was sure it's a hardwareproblem. Asus replaced the motherboard. After a short time (weeks) the mouse problem came again. Yesterday I installed etch, installation worked great, installed kde. This mornig I want to start working and after about 5 Min. my mouse freezed again. All other things work. I experienced the mouse freezing on every installation I did, so I don't think it's a version or distro problem. Interesting thing is that, if I plug the mouse out and in again, dmesg shows it as it would work. It does not matter on what usb port I plug in. I cannot believe that the board should be fault again... especially as the mouse always works on windows... - I forgot that it is a dual boot install. thanks i.a. openldap crashed when syncrepl is activ
Hallo to all, I'm doing some testing with slapd (from testing, 2.3.25-1 ) and syncrepl. Syncrepl loads now, but every time I try to modify something, for example a telephoneNumber, the slapd crashes. 2 Printers not installable on cups/samba
Hallo! I set up a new sarge - cups - samba server and installed almost all printers. After some trying I updatet samba to 3.0.21 from testing but it was no difference. I had some problems that I would like to understand or to solve: - I could prepare and install printer drivers for windows with APW from windows 2000 for theese printers withou problems: hp lj 4050, brother hl-1650 and hp lj 4m+ - I could not do the same from an xp-pro sp2 wks. could not add the driver (same user as with w2k wks) - I could only install manually with rpcclient as described in the samba-howto collection these printers: oki c5300, kyocera FS-1020, FS-6020 and FS-C5020 - I can NOT install a brother hl-1470 and konika 7222 (ps) brother: cannot copy all files to the samba and install then konika: all files are kopied from APW, but at the end permission denied or: manually with rpcclient: all files are at the right place, but it says that the driver is unknow. Had this before only if I forgot to copy a file, but its there with correct perms. - I can not get working this under windwos with point+print even if the driver installation was successfully: hp lj 4000tn the best way: cupsaddsmb - does not work for me with all these new program versions. Have a running one with woody, samba 3.0.10 and cups 1.1.20final-12.backports.org.1. thank you angela -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Sure but it's not better with the sarge version, I had this at first and tried the other later, as I couldn't get it running. I haven't yet cracked centralised authentication and so the setups we have are simpler in many respects. Re: cups - samba - frustration! - LIKE SOLVED
Hi Clive, the last 2 hours I set up a new (about the 10th) pure! sarge (doing all testing in vmware), installed all the necessary stuff, joined to domain, installed a printer test under cups and tested it. then I went on a w2k client, connect to the printers share, uploaded the windows driver to the samba machine. (This was not possible with an xp-pro client, don't know why) tThen from another machine I could connect to the printer and print. so I think I will have to use this way instead of cupsaddsmb, which is a great tool and very confortable! I used it the last 2 years on my old samba: you don't need to install every printer locally on windows before and need only! a ppd, from linuxprinting or from vendor. As we will use pykota for accounting, because I cannot way longer for a running version of the cups driver, I don't need the cupsdriver for accounting anymore, also if it has the advantage that the users can define billing per print job. thank you very! much for your effort and help!!! angela Am Dienstag, 10. On the post from 2 1. 06 16.17 I attached all the configs if you like to see them I haven't got a copy of your original post but there is printer share section and an additional share for the drivers. I don't use the downloadable drivers and have this commented out: [printers] comment = All Printers browseable = yes printable = yes public = yes create mode = 0700 guest ok = yes guest only = yes use client driver = yes path = /tmp # Windows clients look for this share name as a source of downloadable # printer drivers # [print$] # comment = Printer Drivers # path = /var/lib/samba/printers # browseable = yes # read only = yes # guest ok = no Also can you print from windows printer setting it up with a driver sourced from somewhere other than the server? do you meen from windows client to the printer connected to cups with a locally installed driver? Or do you meen if I loaded the windows driver to the server via windows printer wizard? I just reread what I wrote and it doesn't make much sense to me either :) What I meant to say was: Also can you print from a windows 'PC' setting it up with a driver sourced from somewhere other than the server? What I do is install cups on the server with the requisite driver for the printer using the cups web interface (using lynx, I don't have a gui installed). Test it will print a test page from the web interface. Set to use the client (in your case windows) driver within the smb.conf (see above). Then set up each individual printer from windows and make sure it will print via the server. Typically, I source an appropriate driver for the operating system and particular printer. On Windows it's a little confusing because you have to select local rather than network printer and then configure a new port for the windows/samba share. Alternatively, if you explore and then right click on the printer you can install from there. Apologies, if this is 'teaching your grandmother to suck eggs' I was asking whether you've tried this before attempting to automate any driver installation. samba, cups and cupsaddsmb
Hallo, I have an old samba-cups printserver (woody), connected to the domain through winbind, that I want replace now. I installed a new samba-cups server on a sarge machine. Windbind works, I can get all users and groups. I copied the generic windows postscript driver files as in cupsaddsmb-manpage described to /usr/share/cups/drivers (tried also adobe drivers) Installed a printer in cups (test), reloaded smb.conf - I can see the printer from windows. When I try to cupsaddsmb the printer driver for the windows clients, nothing happens. No driver is copied to /var/lib/samba/printers/W32X86/3, on the console I get the message, that the driver was addedd successfully. cupsaddsmb -v -U administrator test Password for administrator required to access localhost via SAMBA: Running command: rpcclient localhost -N -U'administrator%x' -c 'setdriver test test' Succesfully set test to driver test.
