xorg.conf for xinerama

Hello,

I am desperately trying to get the simultaneous video-output running for
beamer (external) and local display (internal).

I found some xorg.conf's on the net for dual-head or xinerama, but I could not
get one working with my computer.
In addition the Xorg.0.log also reports Bad V_BIOS checksum.

Maybe there is somebody out there .

Hi,
have you tried this:

# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

Or try to rename xorg.conf and move all previous ones somewhere else and then
start reconfigure.

Greetings

Bernd

javaws ans iceweasel config-problem

2007-08-21 Thread B_Kloss
Etch
installed:
Iceweasel
sun-java5-bin
sun-java5-plugin
sun-java5-jre

Hello,

when trying to start a web-based application, the download of the *.jnlp file
starts, then iceweasel asks how to handle the file (sun web-java 5) and then
the "Java-loading"-info pops up. After a few moments the info disappears and
that's it.
Opening a terminal and starting
javaws nameoffile.jnlp
on command-line the web-application starts as intended.
Normal java-applets are working fine within iceweasel..

Any ideas?
Are there log-files somewhere? I did not find any.

Thank you

Bernd

Sorry to come up again with that problem. I thought that Nigel gave the
solution, because installing libdvdcss2 made my computer play all kinds of
dvd's.

Last week I installed libdvdcss2 on the third computer with that error, but
here it did not work. With commercial dvd's still the error:
 cannot find plugin for MRL
occurs.
w32codecs are installed.
Something else still is missing. How can I find out, what I have to install?

Thanks for help

I am afraid, this may not be the reason, because all three computers are using

Hi,

in /var/log you can find various files with information about your system like
dmesg
messages
and others

Installing hwinfo with aptitude and

hwinfo > myhw.info

creates a file with useful systeminformation.

    net driver: name = via-rhine, path = /bus/pci/drivers/via-rhine
  net interface: name = sit0, path = /class/net/sit0
    type = 776
    hw_addr = 00:00:00:00
  lo: ethtool link state: 1
  eth0: ethtool link state: 1
**

**
>> pppoe.1: looking for pppoe

What is sit0 and what is GLINK tool. Is there any hint for not initialising
eth0 correctly?

Maybe you might install ntpdate in addition. I think this makes the adjustment

Hi, Kev,

this way of cloning works quite fine, since you can keep parts, that do not
need changing.

The response on dpkg was:

dpkg-reconfigure -plow xserver-xorg
xserver-xorg postinst warning: not updating /etc/X11/X; file has been
   customized

I can't get rid of it, even if I delete the xorg.conf!

Hi, Kev,

thank you, but I did not succeed.
Cloning:
find -depth ! -path "./data/*" | cpio -a -o -H crc -V | gzip -f | split -b
4000m --verbose - ./sicher/hda1-09-09-06B.cpio.gz

Changing the settings:
I tried
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
as well as
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -plow xserver-xorg

The answer always is:
xserver-xorg postinst warning: not updateing /etc/X11/X : file has been
customized

I tried VESA and VGA. There is another client under SuSE 9.3 and the xorg.conf
says: VESA, Framebuffer. Putting these settings into the Debian-Client did
not help, because a fbdev is missing

What to do about that???

Thank you.

/ on hdb2 with ext3

After 'aptitude update' and 'apt-get upgrade' on my server occurs a boot
error:

During upgrade a new kernel 2.6.18 was announced and a reboot after update was
recommended

While booting I get the grub-menu and on chosing the regular option, the
screen reads:

root (hd1,1) - this is correct and according to device.map: hdb=hd1

But then:

filesystem type unknown
partition type 0x82
kernel /boot/vmlin.. root= dev/hdb2 ro
Error 17 Cannot mount selected partition

Booting from hdd with SuSE and using fdisk, hdb2 is type 83 and not 0x82
hdb2 is mountable
fsck.ext3 /dev/hdb2 => okay

What to do about that?
