I used gs-esp.

I tried with gs-afpl and it does not change anything, exactly the same
behavior. I did just a small test since I do not have a lot of time. I will
follow this track more seriously tonight and report any advance I will
eventually find.

I do not remember why I use the config.outline file but I think it is because
at a certain time dvips did not use outline fonts by defaut and that was the
only solution I found at that time to force it doing so. But well I may be
wrong.

Here it is (a note for Norbert : you may forget my previous mail this one is
largely shorter and more helpful :-).

It was not easy to find this minimal example but it is a very surprising
one. I am not sure if it is the only one not working but at least this one
produce the problem I described.

(te)TeX recent changes ...

2006-01-19 Thread Bruno Beaufils
Is there a place where recent changes in TeX packages are documented ?

I ask that because since some times all my pdf produced files are unreadable
by people using Acrobat Reader, and even xpdf sends me insults about some
bad bounding box in Type 3 glyph (Error: Bad bounding box in Type 3 glyph).

I did not change any thing in my configuration. I just make some classical
upgrade for time to time (I use sid on a Mac Powerbook G4, for now I only use
teTeX).

My way of producing pdf files is using latex then dvips and then ps2pdf since
I always wants .ps AND .pdf file.

I am french and thus use some special characters coded in latin1 such as
accentuated letters or french quotation mark (« and »).

As for now when I dvips I used "-u +config.outline" but the config.outline
file disappear.

I have installed cm-super and cm-super-x11 but continue to have the same
problem.

Using pdffont on my pdf files report always Type 3 fonts.

Any idea ?

ipssend and RaidMan on IBM xSeries

2005-11-05 Thread Bruno Beaufils

I have got different IBM server (Netfinity 5000 and xSeries 336) with
ServeRaid SCSI card controllers.

I would like to manage disks drived by these controllers with the IBM
software found on CD delivered with the servers.

I am able to run both ipssend and RaidMan (a java GUI). The problem
is that ipssend find the controller but RaidMan does not.

Any idea or link someone (google was not helpful, nor was IBM websites) ?

Here is the way I start RaidMan as root, since things on the CD are
prepared only for SuSe and RedHat :

$ modprobe mptctl
$ java -Djava.compiler=NONE -cp ./RaidMan.jar
com.ibm.sysmgt.raidmgr.agent.ManagementAgent &
$ java -Djava.compiler=NONE -cp ./RaidMan.jar

How to create a *freezed* distribution of a debian mirror

2004-04-02 Thread Bruno BEAUFILS

Hi all,

I administer a bunch of hosts at work. I have something like 150 PC with 6
servers.

I install those PC with a bunch of hand-made script using ssh, rsync, debconf
and a home made debian mirror.

This mirror is updated every night. It is used for those PC but not only. Some
others machines on our campus use it. So this mirror has to be a clean debian
mirror.

Unfortunately I have to use sid on hosts (clients side) since my users need
recent release of some software (KDE, and GNOME for instance).

At time t I am able to install properly all hosts. Sometime after, let's say
time t+30 days, some changes have been made by my users and thus I need to
reinstall all computers in the same state as in time t.

Unfortunately my debian mirror has changed since sid is unstable by nature.

So installation does not work anymore since some packages have changed a lot
(last experience was with gdm for instance).

Is there anyway to keep a mirror of time t without having to duplicate it at
that time ? Some kind of a customized distribution between sid and sarge ...

I thought about only copying Packages.gz from time t and creating a dumb
debian repository including only Packages.gz with links in it to the real
mirror.

Of course my mirror script will have to keep all packages wich versions are
used in that Packages.gz.

Any ideas someone ?

emacs-vm problem : movemail and local spool file

2004-03-16 Thread Bruno BEAUFILS
Hi,

I got a problem using vm under emacs with local spool files.

I fecth all my mail through fetchmail which directly send mails
through procmail
which filter it with spamassassin.

I put only those lines in my .vm :

(setq vm-primary-inbox (expand-file-name "~/mail/toto"))
(setq vm-spool-files (list "/usr/local/home/bruno/mail/toto.spool"))

Each time I try to get new messages with g or vm-get-new-mail I get
"No New mail".

The spool files is NOT empty (procmail did its job).

When I add this line in my .vm (in order to use emacs movemail and not
mailutils one) :

(setq vm-movemail-program
"/usr/lib/emacs/21.3/powerpc-linux/movemail")

Nothing change but sometime I get some strange crash box's type
unrecognized :

vm-gobble-crash-box: crash box /usr/local/home/bruno/INBOX.CRASH's
type is unrecognized

When I use imap spool files everything's fine (but I do not have any
filter).

Any ideas someone ?

I use emacs 21.3.1, with vm 7.18 on debian-ppc sid.

Booting Linux from windows 2000

2002-11-06 Thread Bruno BEAUFILS

I know that this question is not specially relevant to debian, but I do not
know where to ask it anywhere else :-(

I want to boot a bunch of dual-boot stations which are running under Windows
2000 to Linux. I tried loadlin but it does not work because of protected
mode.

I can modify lilo boot loader since those stations are oftenly cloned by Ghost
and that default boot options must stay Windows.

Anybody with an idea ?

Unattended installation...

2002-09-30 Thread Bruno BEAUFILS

I am trying to do some unattended installation of debian boxes using
apt-get. I use `-q -y' options as well as a prepared debconf cache. Everything
is fine but sometimes apt asks me some question about files already installed
(some files are those I tailored for my boxes) like this one :

Configuration file `/etc/emacs/site-start.d/50tramp.el'
==> Modified (by you or by a script) since installation.
==> Package distributor has shipped an updated version.
What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
Y or I : install the package maintainer's version
N or O : keep your currently-installed version
D : show the differences between the versions
Z : background this process to examine the situation
The default action is to keep your current version.
*** 50tramp.el (Y/I/N/O/D/Z) [default=N] ?

How may I prevent apt-get to ask me those questions ?

BTW, Isn't it time to enforce all packages to use debconf (even lilo does not
use it, I was forced to build my own lilo packages to avoid it using
liloconfig :-(

crontab problems ...

2001-10-02 Thread Bruno BEAUFILS

I noticed a strange things in my /etc/crontab which seems to be installed by
the cron and maybe modified by the anacron package.

Here is my crontab :

crontab--
# /etc/crontab: system-wide crontab
# Unlike any other crontab you don't have to run the `crontab'
# command to install the new version when you edit this file.
# This file also has a username field, that none of the other crontabs do.

SHELL=/bin/sh
PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin

# m h dom mon dow user command
25 2 * * *  roottest -e /usr/sbin/anacron || run-parts --report
/etc/cron.daily
47 2 * * 7  roottest -e /usr/sbin/anacron || run-parts --report
/etc/cron.weekly
52 2 1 * *  roottest -e /usr/sbin/anacron || run-parts --report
/etc/cron.monthly
#
crontab--

What I think is a problem is the `||' if the file /usr/sbin/crontab exist the
run-parts part will not be executed, and if it does not exist the run-parts
can not be executed.

I dont understand why the `||' are not replaced by `&&'.

Do I miss something, or is it a bug ?

It does not work either because with this configuration only the last domain

The man page of resolv.conf says there may be only on search line containing
only 6 domains and which must not be longer than 256 characters.

My configuration respect exactly that, but it does not work.

I would like to have a look at the code just in order to understand how is the

Problem with resolv.conf and search list

2001-09-15 Thread Bruno BEAUFILS

There is something I do not understand about resolving hostnames. It seems the
search primitive of resolv.conf does not work properly in sid, nor in woody.

Let's see some of my configuration files :

 resolv.conf
search lifl.fr univ-lille1.fr iut-info.univ-lille1.fr
nameserver 134.206.10.18
nameserver 134.206.1.4
nameserver 134.206.1.15
-

 host.conf
order hosts,bind
multi on
-

Then I know a host which is called sole.iut-info.univ-lille1.fr and want to be
able to call it by its short name sole.

The resolver is unable to find it. Let's see it with an example :

{watney-root-/etc}# host sole
sole.lifl.fr does not exist (Authoritative answer)

{watney-root-/etc}# host sole.iut-info.univ-lille1.fr
sole.iut-info.univ-lille1.frA 134.206.40.114

Why did the resolver stop searching after the first search entry (not trying
univ-lille1.fr and so on) ?

Did I miss something or is it a bug ?

Installing a new machine with a selected list of package ...

2001-03-15 Thread Bruno BEAUFILS

I would like to install my new laptop with the same packages as those
installed on my desktop (which is a sid debian).

So I installed a basic potato debian without selecting any packages, then after
the first reboot I mount (via NFS) a directory where I stored a debian ftp
site mirror plus some specific packages (a home made kernel (build with
kernel-package) and such packages (alsa-modules, pcmcia-modules)).

I configure apt such that it looks for package on this nfs mounted directory.

I then installed my own packages (kernel, pcmcia, etc.) reboot the system,
then I do on my desktop

dpkg --get-selections > mylist

and on my laptop

cat mylist | dpkg --set-selections

I have then done a :

dselect install

And all was not right. Dselect have had a lot of problems with some package. I
call dselect install a lot of time, and then all seems right, but a lot of
stuff does not seems to be well installed (X for instance, even after I copy
my own hand-made XF86Config-4).

So here is my question :

What's the good and efficient way to install a debian box with exactly the
same list of packages than another machine ?

Second question :

Where may I have found this information ?
