Hi, I'm using debian/sid. Where do I configure the USB permissions so that I can run commands as a regular user: $ ykinfo -s USB error: Access denied (insufficient permissions) $ ykpamcfg -v -2 USB error: Access denied (insufficient permissions) ykinfo run as root works as expected .. Brother QL-1060N label printer: unwanted media feed after print job
Hi, is there any body out there using the Brother QL label printer series under debian/wheezy? I'm printing labels via CUPS lp command and postscript files to an QL-1060N with 62mm width continuous roll. I'm facing the problem that after the print job is finished and the label is cut as expected, that the printer driver after a short pause seems to submit an media feed so that 1 inch (2,54cm) of blank media is advanced and is sticking in front of the next printed label. I can only circumvent this by manually pressing the cut button on the printer before submitting the next print label job. I have taken a look on the source of the printer driver printer-driver-ptouch 1.3-4 but was not yet able to find the code that must be changed to suppress the media advance. Same result with v1.3-7 from testing/unstable. I also tried the driver from brother, which does not advance the media *afte*r the job, but unfortunately prints 1,5 inch blank media *before* the actual label data.. http://www.brother.com/cgi-bin/agreement/agreement.cgi?dlfile=http://www.brother.com/pub/bsc/linux/dlf/ql1060ncupswrapper-1.0.1-0.i386.deblang=English_gpl Any hints are greatly appreciated.. sid: USB-stick - /dev/disk/by-id/ not populated
Hi all, I have one daily updated sid system running, which doesn't populate the /dev/disk/by-id/ path for an connecting USB-stick (w32 FAT) as it is done by my other sid systems. (it only shows up as eg /dev/uba1) I compared the /etc/udev/rules.d/ contents and they look very similar, e.g. persistent.rules is identical. Which rule/file is responsible for populating the /dev/disk/by-id/ path. How can I debug what's going on? I suspect it might be some left over cfg from older udev-releases or so, because the system is very old / always being upgraded from sarge/or older. You can check if kdesktop is running with ps -ef | grep [k]desktop. You should see the process listed as kdesktop [kdeinit]. (It is very unlikely that kdesktop is not running when you have a KDE session, but it does not hurt to check.) yes kdesktop [kdeinit] is there. How do the different components interact? How can I trace its execution path and check if everything is in place? I don't know all the details, but I know that you should be able to lock the screen under KDE with the following command: dcop kdesktop KScreensaverIface lock Maybe that will give you a helpful error message if it does not work; also check ~/.xession-errors for anything related to the screensaver. the above dcop invocation just returns immediately without output. HDASP hardisk-protection, Intel 3945 WLAN, battery, thinkpad control stuff (ibm-acpi) etc. Even the fingerprint reader works using the great young stuff from thinkfinger.sf.net. Suspend to Disk via uswusp s2disk sometimes rejects to do it, I haven't found out the offending driver/circumstances yet. Also I noticed that after resume the display output is very very slow, but I expect that to be hopefully fixed in near future by ATI/newer kernel?! So overall I'm happy with it. Negative points: The Z61p BIOS doesn't proivide a switch to Enable the Core2DUo VT-functionality yet. On the X60's and T60 it is already available. That prevented me to use Xen HVM. Hopefully Lenovo will add this feature with the next BIOS otherwise it would be a major cripple of this Core2Duo-System. I also tried unsuccesfully to start the shrinked WinXP partition under VMWare server using a separate hardware-profile, but it keeps dying BSOD upon boot. Anyone managed to do this without a new clean WinXP-install? WR, Bruno -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: Xen 3.0.3 and VLAN
Hi Tim, the missing comma after the bridge specification in the vif declaration of the domU cfg's seemed to have caused the problems I encountered. Now I'm using the xen network-dummy script and have succesfully in dom0 put up 3 bridges belonging to different VLAN's and can assign these bridges to some domU's so that their eth0 belongs to that specific VLAN. So I reached the goal I wanted. Thanks again! But I wonder if there is a way to enhance it. Now dom0 uses xenbr94 directly as it's standard interface to the world. The default xen network-bridge magic does it somehow different: it renames eth0 to peth0 and creates a new eth0 which is then added to the xenbr0 - which is then used by dom0 for communication instead of using a xenbr directly. I could not figure out yet how to create such a new interface (using somehow the netloop driver?) and have the dom0 use that instead. Googling for netloop etc brought no enlightment.. Do you know how to do that / by what commands? How is xen creating the similar vifX.Y interfaces ? Perhaps you can help me with that.. BTW: I'm also using the ocfs2 filesystem with two nodes and playing around with live migration. Is there a way to speed up to make the cisco switches in our network learn faster that a domU IP is now reachable on another node's mac ? Either via configuration on the switches or in the nodes bridge configuration? WR, Bruno my /etc/network/interfaces contains: auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto xenbr94 iface xenbr94 inet dhcp bridge_fd 0 bridge_maxwait 0 bridge_helo 0 bridge_stp on bridge_ports eth0.94 auto xenbr64 iface xenbr64 inet manual bridge_fd 0 bridge_maxwait 0 bridge_helo 0 bridge_stp on bridge_ports eth0.64 auto xenbr32 iface xenbr32 inet manual bridge_fd 0 bridge_maxwait 0 bridge_helo 0 bridge_stp on bridge_ports eth0.32 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
