Hello, Can somebody explain why packages for Nagios existed in Jessie but have gone from Stretch? Is weird as there are support packages just not Nagios itself. Generally, most servers don't allow messages above 3, 5, or 10MB due to the load it imposes on the server. The size of the email you are trying to send is huge, can you not break it up a bit? I manage mail servers in a Windows environment at work (so my Linux mail server knowledge is quite limited) and I am constantly having to explain to users why 50, 100, 500MB email messages are not being sent or received. ALSA - no sound cards defined.
Hi I am trying to get my soundcard to work in debian with ALSA. I have used alsaconf to configure the sound card and it has created a file called /etc/alsa/modutils/0.5 with the following contents: # --- BEGIN: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. --- # --- ALSACONF verion 0.4.3b --- alias char-major-116 snd alias snd-card-0 snd-card-ens1371 alias char-major-14 soundcore alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0 alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss options snd snd_major=116 snd_cards_limit=1 snd_device_mode=0660 snd_device_gid=29 snd_device_uid=0 options snd-card-ens1371 snd_index=0 snd_id=CARD_0 snd_dac1_frame_size=128 snd_dac2_frame_size=128 snd_adc_frame_size=128 # --- END: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. --- whenever it try and start alsa using the init script it says no sound cards defined. Why is this? How can i get it to work? The debs i have installed are: ii alsa-base 0.9+0beta10-6 ALSA driver common files ii alsa-headers 0.9+0beta10-6 ALSA driver header files ii alsa-modules-2 0.9+0beta10+1+ Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (drivers) ii alsa-utils 0.9.0beta10a-2 Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (utils) ii alsaconf 0.4.3b-4 ALSA configurator Thankyou Charlie

Re: Upgrading Potato, Kernel and installing KDE
I am thinking of moving from redhat to debian. Could you please tell me what version of KDE 2 comes with woody. The latest stable version is KDE 2.2.2. I'd like to upgrade my Potato system. I'd like to know the following: I think this was answered (though not directly) if you'll observe the recent threads that flew in this mailing list. a) Is Woody very very unstable and upgrading a real bad idea or is it tolerable (or more than tolerable)? Judging from the general mood here in the mailing list, I'd say tolerable enough to use (just bear with some quirks it still has...). The installer for Potato is no longer actively maintained, and Woody's close to being frozen (I sure hope so... maybe this year?) b) Should I point my apt-get to the unstable or testing versions in apt-get's sources.list. Woody is currently in testing, though it is widely believed to be close to being frozen before it would be released as the next stable distro. So point it to testing. c) Is unstable called Woody or testing? What's Sid? Sid is the unstable branch of Debian. Amazingly, unstable is not so unstable as in unusable though there are clear exceptions to the rule that exists. I'd also like to upgrade to Kernel 2.4.xx and then install KDE, would really appreciate any thoughts on how I should go about that. In woody, KDE2 is included in the list. Woody is also 2.4 ready, meaning you just need to slap in a new 2.4 kernel and you're ready to go. Potato - grab Adrian Bunk's unofficial packages to run a 2.4 kernel in Potato.
