Mutt unstable: problem with macro after upgrading

2003-09-14 Thread D.J. Bolderman
Guys,

I've upgraded Mutt to 1.5.4+20030913-1, and now I'm having a little problem
with a macro.

For mailboxes with mailinglists I'm using this:

macro index "read thread"

to mark uninteresting threads, and skip to the next (new) one.

Now, say I have 10 new threads, when I'm on the first thread and press
F5, mutt jumps to the 3rd thread, instead of the 2nd. This continues:
when I'm on the 3rd thread, and press F5, mutt jumps to the 5th
thread. It always skips the next thread

Can someone confirm this ?

Thanks,
Dick

Archivemail syntaxwarning

2003-09-05 Thread D.J. Bolderman
Hi guys,

On my unstable box, when I run:

/usr/bin/archivemail -d1 -q -u --preserve-unread -o $HOME/Mailarchive
$HOME/Maildir/.mailinglist*

I get:

/usr/bin/archivemail:765: SyntaxWarning: assignment to None
  (None, last_dir) = os.path.split(os.path.dirname(message.fp.name))

Rightaway. It seems that all mail is archived properly, but where does
this message come from ? I tried removing the asterisk and fill in a
full pathname, but that doesn't help.

Thanks,
Dick

Perl problem installing Debconf

2002-09-18 Thread D.J. Bolderman

Hi ppl,

I just tried to upgrade my unstable box, and ran into the following error
with upgrading Debconf:

Can't locate Text/Iconv.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /etc/perl
/usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.0 /usr/local/share/perl/5.8.0 /usr/lib/perl5
/usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.8.0 /usr/share/perl/5.8.0
/usr/local/lib/site_perl .) at /usr/share/perl5/Debconf/Encoding.pm line 9

When I do a Perl -V, it shows:

/etc/perl
/usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.0
/usr/local/share/perl/5.8.0
/usr/lib/perl5
/usr/share/perl5
/usr/lib/perl/5.8.0
/usr/share/perl/5.8.0
/usr/local/lib/site_perl

Is this a bug, or is it a problem with my paths ??

Thanks,
Dick

Help needed with qt3...

2002-06-29 Thread D.J. Bolderman
Hi all,

Recently I have installed kde3 from http://kde3.geniussystems.net/. Kde is
working fine, but now i've got some problems compiling apps on my system
(debian unstable).

When I do a ./configure, it ends with the message "checking for Qt...
configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 3.0.2) (library qt-mt) not found"

I was searching on google, and found a lot of people having this problem, but
I haven't found a solution so far. My sytem has a /usr/lib/qt3 directory, but
the only contents of that dir. are a plugins and a plugins-mt subdir. Other
qt3 libs are in /usr/lib/. That dir. also holds different libqt-mt files:

libqt-mt.a
libqt-mt.so (link to libqt-mt.so.3.0.4)
libqt-mt.so.3 (link to libqt-mt.so.3.0.4)
libqt-mt.so.3.0 (link to libqt-mt.so.3.0.4)
libqt-mt.so.3.0.4

I guess that's my problem. Can anyone give me some help here ? do i need to
set some system variables, or is there a way i can re-install qt3 the right
way ?

Thanks for any help !!

Ok, did that, but my dmesg shows this:

ide_setup: ide0=ata66

VP_IDE: chipset revision 6
VP_IDE: not 100% native mode: will probe irqs later
VP_IDE: Unknown VIA SouthBridge, contact Vojtech Pavlik
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
VP_IDE: ATA-66/100 forced bit set (WARNING)!!

So it finds an unknown via southbridge... maybe this is the problem ?
Anyway, I still can't enable dma with hdparm...

Soltek sl-75drv4 dma problems....

2002-06-19 Thread D.J. Bolderman
Hi all,

I'm having some performance issues with this mb. I'm using a ata100
7400rpm ibm desktar hdd and hdparm -t /dev/hda shows:

'Timing buffered disk reads: 64 MB in 10.19 seconds = 6.28 MB/sec'

This is too slow for what I've seen from other people.

hdparm -iv /dev/hda shows:

dev/hda:
 multcount= 16 (on)
 I/O support = 1 (32-bit)
 unmaskirq=  1 (on)
 using_dma=  0 (off)
 keepsettings =  1 (on)
 nowerr   =  0 (off)

 readahead=  8 (on)
 geometry = 5005/255/63, sectors = 80418240, start = 0

 Drive Supports : ATA/ATAPI-5 T13 1321D revision 1 : ATA-2 ATA-3 ATA-4
ATA-5

 busstate =  1 (on)

So, dma is turned off. Logical idea would be hdparm -d1 /dev/hda, but
that gives the error message:

HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted

I've enabled the dma option in my kernel but it seems it's not used at
all...

Does anybody have a clue how to fix this ?

The board uses a VIA Apollo KT266A chipset.

Thanks,
Dick

Re: Still problems with event times in log files

I'm still experiencing wrong event times in my log files. When i do a
"date" and a "date --utc" both times are correct. ie: 10:00 and 08:00. It
seems that events are logged in UTC time. Where can I change this to my
normal time ?

Perhaps you have the TZ environment variable set locally? That would
explain why 'date' is correct in your environment but not for syslog.
Try running 'tzconfig' to set the system timezone, and, just to be sure,
restart syslogd/klogd ('/etc/init.d/sysklogd restart') afterwards.

Colin, Thanks, it seems te be working now !

I'm having some problems with the time of events in my logfiles.

It seems that all events are logged in UTC (which is 2 hours earlier than

Can someone point me in the right direction to change this ? I've searched

How to setup different permissions for proftd

2002-06-03 Thread D.J. Bolderman
Hi all,

Still setting up my debian system :)

I have to setup the proftpd server allowing users from the group 'ftp' only
to acces the ftp directory, and other users to access their home-dirs and
the ftp directory.

I've created the dedicated ftp users and put them in the group 'ftp' they
are chrooted in the ftp dir when they login, so this is ok. Now, when the
"normal" users login, they start in their home-dir, and can browse my whole
server! This is not what I want :)

How can I arrange that the normal users only can see their home-dirs and the
ftp dir ? Do I need to create an extra group for them ? Please see my
proftpd.conf below:

RootLogin off
DefaultRoot /ftp ftp
WtmpLog on
UseFtpUsers on
#AllowChmod off
RequireValidShell off
AuthPAMAuthoritative on
AuthPAM on
DefaultChdir ~

DenyAll

Allowgroup ftp
Allowgroup users
Denyall

However, http://www.abuse.net/relay.html gives me a fault at step 6

What's murhpy.debian.org doing in my firewall logs ?

2002-06-03 Thread D.J. Bolderman
Hi All,

In my iptables configuration, I block all incoming smtp traffic to my
system except from the mailservers from my internet provider. However,
sinces i'm subscribed to this list, i see a lot of dropped packets in my
logs from murphy.debian.org.
What's the problem here ? Why doesn't murphy.debian.org deliver mail to my
provider's mail server ?
Thanks for any help !

Regards
Dick

No it's not working on the console. When I try xev, the key show
properly. Can you tell me where I can check my keymappings ?

"1" Key not working

2001-12-28 Thread D.J. Bolderman
My "1" key (above the "q") doesn't work anymore after rebooting my pc.
The last thing i changed before rebooting were the locale setting, but i
don't think this is the problem.

The key isn't working in a terminal but, for example, in evolution or
mozilla it's working as normal...

Anyone have a clue where to look for the solution ?

Thanks,

Kernel 2.4.16 and boot floppy

2001-12-23 Thread D.J. Bolderman
Hi,

I'm running 2.2.19 as original kernel, and I installed the 2.4.16 kernel
with apt-get. This didn't produce any errors so I assume it went ok.

However, I am using a boot floppy to start up my system, but this floppy
doesn't work now. I choose to make a new boot floppy when the new kernel
was installed, but it boots up my system with a kernel panic message
complaining that it cannot boot the fs...

I know this is a problem with initrd, but i can't figure out how to
configure my boot floppy to use this.

Can someone please post an example of their boot floppy contents ?

Thanks for any help ! :)

Dick
