pon myprovider
the modem find my ISP but after few seconds disconnect himself. This
is what plog said about:

ppp configuration (LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests )

2001-09-03 Thread Dan Pomohaci
Hi,

I try to connect to my ISP using pppconfig. I put all corect settings
(I tested in Windows and worked OK). Using plog I saw that the
connection is established but after few seconds the modem hangs. The
last message in plog is:
LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
I tried all three type of conections PAP, CHAT, and CHAP but the
result is the same.
My system is a Progeny with:
ppp 2.4.0f
pppconfig 2.0.5
kernel 2.2.19 (custom but I tried also with standard 2.2.18)
Can you give me a clue?

Thanks,
Dan

Re: VMware and Debian

2001-08-22 Thread Dan Pomohaci
Thanks for answers but they don't solve my problem (but they are very good
hints for later operations).
I downloaded the VMware-2.0.4-1142.tar.gz from their site. I read the
INSTALL file where it is written:

To install/upgrade VMware for Linux, run the program vmware-install.pl.

But I didn't find any file vmware-install.pl(only an uninstall file).
Where did you find it?

Toshiba Laptop and PCMCIA Xircom net card

2001-01-30 Thread Dan Pomohaci
Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4200 with a Debian stable system but
with 2.2.18 kernel (for USB). Everything works OK (even usb), but when
I tried to to insert an PCMCIA Xircom Ethernet card (CBE2-100) the
system hang up. The keyboard doesn't respond and I must hard restart
the system. Five month ago the same system but with kernel 2.2.12 worked
without problems with the same card. I tried with the old kernel but
it doesn't work, it must be some PCMCIA packages upgrade which broke
the system.
My config files are standard except config.opts which has a clause:

Borland C specific libraries in Linux

2000-10-13 Thread Dan Pomohaci
Hi,

Do you know if there are C libraries who mimic Borland Turbo C
specific libraries (conio, etc.) in Linux (a Debian package will be
better :-).
At school my daughter use Borland C and I don't want to install
Windows on my computer only for that. Beside emacs is a better tools
for programming than Borland IDE :-)

I promised to try to find Linux conio for Borland. I found it in my

Borland C of that date, but you might be able to make it work. If
you do, please send me your hacks, or let me know if it does work
  for you.

It is redistributable under gpl2. It isn't a debian package. It is a
gzipped tar file that extracts ok.

CAVEATS: I have NOT tried to use this and I have NOT compiled it.
(Not recently enough that I remember it, anyways.)

  Lots of luck with this.

Thank you for the library.
It needs some adjustments (I tried to compile it but it has an error
to many arguments for wattr_get). When/if I succeed to make it work I
will send you my modifications.

can't login with kdm

2000-07-29 Thread Dan Pomohaci
Hi,

I can't login with kdm. I put the user name, the password, and the process

gdm has the same behavior.
This problem appears after some upgrade in potato two weeks ago. The

before these potato upgrades the same kde version worked OK.

I just managed to fix a similar problem myself. I could see the Samba

I had to add encrypted password support for the Win98 boxen on the network.
  Then I
added the following lines to smb.conf:

  encrypt passwords = yes
  smbpasswd file = /path/to/smbpasswd
  preferred master = yes
  donain logons = yes

Those lines basically turn the Samba server into the equivalent to an NT

  domain to
authenticate, and all works well now. I spent probably 8 hours this
  afternoon
reading through the man page for smb.conf, the DOMAIN.txt that comes with

  all for
the better because I don't have to put an NT server back up.

  Hope this helps

Exist a method to create smbpasswd from the unix passwd file? Is it
posible to have problems if the passwords are case mixed? (the
 clients are mainly Win95 boxes).
