Hi Paulo! How are you? It's good to hear from you again.

Hmm... I don't think so. I do not load the sound driver at boot time
and it makes this noise too. My sound driver is compiled as a kernel
module that is loaded just when needed (I set the things up using those
pre-install/post-install directives in /etc/modules-conf).

Probably this noise is heard just at the first time the driver is
loaded after turning on the system. No, I didn't any test at all, it is
just a speculation. :-)

I'm not sure, therefore I won't try to explain it, but I think that
the ALSA project will prevail... Anyway, I use the OSS (but I bet that
the AWE64 works with ALSA driver too).

See you.

I've got an AWE 64 Value (ISA) and everything is working fine but
sometimes it makes this horrible sound too. I've tried a lot of things
but nothing worked... If you find any explanation about this please let
me know, ok?

Re: Quake and Voodoo3.

2000-06-17 Thread Félix Almeida
Hi.

Does anybody know how to run Quake using a 3dfx Voodoo3 3000 AGP card?
I've followed all the steps described in the linux.3dfx.com site but
with no success at all... Any ideas?

  I'm running X 3.3.6, libc6 2.1 (potato), kernel 2.2.16. My computer is
an AMD K6-III 400, 128MB RAM. Ah! The X is running fine (32bpp,
[EMAIL PROTECTED]). HELP! I WANNA RUN QUAKE USING MY NEW VIDEO CARD! :-)

Thanx.

Quake and Voodoo3.

2000-06-15 Thread Félix Almeida
Hello.

First of all, I'd like to apologise if this subject was discussed here
before.

  Recently I bought a 3Dfx video card (Voodoo3 3000 AGP) and I'm trying
to make it work, but I'm facing some problems and I have some doubts...
Below are a couple of them:

  - What do I have to do to run Quake using the power of my new Voodoo
card? If I try to run it inside X it either complains about the keyboard
or locks up my entire system. If I try to run it in a text console it
tells me that it cannot find or access my Voodoo3 board. Oh, boy... :(
  - Why do I need the 3dfx kernel module? I even tried to remove it from
memory and absolutely nothing changed.

I'm running potato, kernel 2.2.16 and I've installed the following
packages related to my video card:

ii xserver-svga 3.3.6-7X server for SVGA graphics cards

The X is working fine (I'm running it at 32bpp, 1280x1024) and I can
run the "test3Dfx" program inside X and see the famous blue screen
asking me to press a key or something.

Thank you very much for any help.
