samba crashing in debian etch

2007-04-12 Thread Frederico Rodrigues Abraham
Hi. I have recently installed debian etch from scratch, but samba is
crashing.
I have installed the samba-dbg package but i'm not getting a stack trace
in the samba panic-action.

Have i done anything wrong?

I get this e-mail:
The Samba 'panic action' script, /usr/share/samba/panic-action,
was called for PID 3711 (/usr/sbin/smbd).

This means there was a problem with the program, such as a segfault.
Below is a backtrace for this process generated with gdb, which shows
the state of the program at the time the error occurred. The Samba log
files may contain additional information about the problem.

If the problem persists, you are encouraged to first install the
samba-dbg package, which contains the debugging symbols for the Samba
binaries. Then submit the provided information as a bug report to
Debian. For information about the procedure for submitting bug reports,
please see http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting or the reportbug(1)
manual page.

problem installing libmotif-dev on debian sarge stable

Hi. I am trying to install the development files for motif but i get this:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

Why was cantus removed from sarge?

And also, how can i install it using the most of the 'debian way' of

What do you mean by transparent objects?

Do you mean say a closed curve with no fill that you see the objects
behind? Or do you mean a translucent filled square that you can see
 through?

The latter case is not supported by EPS.

The former seems to work perfectly for me from oo.org

well there are 3 things that make up vc++ from my perspective:
 a)c++ language

point a is covered by the gcc collection (c,c++,fortran,...)
point b is covered by any toolkit (gdk,tk,qt,...)
point c can be covered by eclipse, gdb, and many others.

Can you close the program by doing something in the window bar? I

KDE here. Clicking with the mouse on the upper left corner of the

Re: RES: Using two desktops with NVIDIA Twinview

2004-07-13 Thread Frederico Rodrigues Abraham
Consegui resolver o problema

To configure two separate X screens to share one graphics chip, here is
what you will need to do:

First, create two separate Device sections, each listing the BusID of
the graphics card to be shared, each listing the driver as nvidia,
and assign each a separate screen:

Section Device
Identifier nvidia0
Driver nvidia
# Edit the BusID with the location of your graphics card
BusID PCI:2:0:0
Screen 0
EndSection

Section Device
Identifier nvidia1
Driver nvidia
# Edit the BusID with the location of your graphics card
BusId PCI:2:0:0
Screen 1
EndSection

Then, create two Screen sections, each using one of the Device sections:

Section Screen
Identifier Screen0
Device nvidia0
Monitor Monitor0
DefaultDepth 24
Subsection Display
Depth 24
Modes 1600x1200 1024x768 800x600 640x480
EndSubsection
EndSection

Section Screen
Identifier Screen1
Device nvidia1
Monitor Monitor1
DefaultDepth 24
Subsection Display
Depth 24
Modes 1600x1200 1024x768 800x600 640x480
EndSubsection
EndSection

(note: you'll also need to create a second Monitor section)

Finally, update the ServerLayout section to use and position both Screen
sections:

Section ServerLayout
...
Screen 0 Screen0
Screen 1 Screen1 leftOf Screen0
...
EndSection

For further details, please refer to the XF86Config manpage.

I see you haven't done even a basic amount of research on the subject.
Most USB joysticks, including the MS Sidewinder, work under the joystick
driver that's part of input core support. Here's a link with some
distro-neutral info on the subject:

http://www.linux-usb.org/USB-guide/x194.html

Next time please use google or the list archives for basic questions
before posting, or at least communicate what you've attempted and what
errors you're getting.

Sorry... well you're right, i went to that page and the joystick is
working fine when i test cat /dev/input/js0...(i even had the kernel
modules already installed...)
The thing is, the snes emulator is saying there are no joysticks
available... I guess it's only about this particular program right...
Thanks

NVIDIA driver and modconf/.deb

2003-10-08 Thread Frederico Rodrigues Abraham
Hi.
I currently have 2 kernels installed on my machine. 2.2.20-idepci
(default on debian cd) and a compiled 2.4.22 from www.kernel.org
I've tried to install the NVIDIA driver from www.nvidia.com from
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_1.0-4496.html and
installed it for my 2.4 kernel. I have some questions...
- Is there a way to build the driver as a .deb, that is only loaded
on the kernel 2.4?
- Is there a way to build the driver for the 2.2 kernel too? It
requires modinfo.h from the kernel source, but the
kernel-source-2.2.20-woody does not have it, so i cant build the driver
for this kernel...
- I think i screwed up the GLx/GLcore (software rendering) drivers
for my 2.2 kernel, so i cant run opengl apps at all... is there an easy
way to fix this (like reinstalling a package from the cd)? If there is
not, no problem, i can reinstall my system.

Thanks

KDE+Kmail

2003-10-05 Thread Frederico Rodrigues Abraham
Hi.
I tried to uninstall exim, which led me to a question... why does
KDE depend on KMail? Isnt KDE a Desktop Environment and KMail a mail
client/service?
