Incoming Files

1996-12-19 Thread GREENE KENNETH ADAM
Where do incoming files land at on FTP.DEBIAN.ORG??? Where can we
access them. I'm looking for Kaffe (a Java Virtual Machine, I saw it
mentioned on the lists, but I can't find it on the FTP).

Opti Sound Card, Pnp, and Kernel 2.1.x

1996-12-17 Thread GREENE KENNETH ADAM
I have an Opti Pnp Sound Card, and it doesn't work under Linux (have
to boot DOS and loadlin into Linux). According to the OSS/Linux
Page, the Opti Cards will be supported under the official version
of Kernel 2.1.x, is there such a thing, I see v2.1.17 (or something
close), or are these kernels still buggy??

DEFRAG for ext2fs

1996-11-27 Thread GREENE KENNETH ADAM
I found a program on SUNSITE (in system/filesystems) for
defragmenting disks under Linux, and I was wondering if anyone has
compiled it. I tried, but the compiler says function FIRST_INODE (or something
close to that, sorry but the code is at home and I'm at school) is
undefined. What it really is a #define statement that expands, but
it requires a parameter, and I am not sure what it wants, and I don't
want to experiment on my system. Has anyone fixed it, compiled it,
or otherwise made it available??

Dynamic Linking

1996-11-18 Thread GREENE KENNETH ADAM
I'm trying to get GCC to do dynamic linking (I'm new to Linux, was
using DJGPP on a M$-DOG system). I can get it to do static linking,
but not dynamic. when I do gcc -dynamic -o test test.o it
generates a static linked ELF binary (according ot ldd).

If this is not the appropriate place for this message, my humblest
apologies.

Support for Page Scanners (ie. HP ScanJets)

1996-11-15 Thread GREENE KENNETH ADAM
This is important, so any help is greatly appreciated (I am to
make a recommendation as to a complete system to handle Web pages,
E-Mail and networks for a small university, and If I can get their
ScanJet to work, I probably could sell them, They use Adobe
Photoshop, and I think the GIMP could fill that need). Anyways, I
need to know, I haven't actually dug into Linux yet.

Making dselect use unstable packages

1996-11-13 Thread GREENE KENNETH ADAM
I tried to install DOSEmu, but dselect wouldn't take it, it just
skipped it. How do I get it installed (dpkg -i doesn't do it either).
