Re: DHCP on samba

2005-10-22 Thread Gautam Bakshi
Samba and dhcp have nothing to do with each other, therfore there should not be any conflict.

i have used many different hardware types and platforms..I have never had a problem.

you can see a list of architectures debian is ported for: http://www.us.debian.org/ports/

hope it helps.On 9/29/05, [EMAIL PROTECTED] <

i would sugges tsimply making a samba share and, assuming your backup
server is always on, have the laptop simpy save its backups on that
network drive(using windows own backup or any other backup software).
If you are not sure when the laptop will be online, it would be
difficult for the backup server to know and start the backup, so the
easiest way, in my opinion, would be to have the laptop control its own
backup process.

if you'd like the server to control the backing up, then you could
maybe make a script that pings for the hostname of the laptop, and if
successful, it mounts the windows share and backs everything up.

Hope it helps.

Re: High Performence SQUID Howto

2004-10-28 Thread Gautam Bakshi
I don't trust most howto's that tell me if i follow them, I will have
an "high Performence" system. Most default installs are optimized for
general usage, in order to optimize something you need to be able to
adjust it to fit your needs.

For example for apache, there's a conf file for high performence, but
it does not seem to have any sql or php support in it, so to me its
useless, although this configure is suppose to be really fast with
static pages.

Find our your needs, network traffic, behavoir, size of files, number
of connections, etc...and then go into the squid configure file, and
adjust whatever you need(make a backup first).

Re: Apache2 doesn't find qualified domain name

2004-09-30 Thread Gautam Bakshi
I believe you may have to add it to httpd.conf It may be in
/etc/apache/httpd.conf
there is a directive called ServerName.

You may need to add it there.
