User authentication question?
The system is: Linux pali 2.6.23.14-slh-smp-1 #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Jan 14 23:28:40 CET 2008 i686 GNU/Linux I am trying to configure dovecot imap server. How can I figure if the system is PAM for authentication or not? Can it be configured to user /etc/shadow info to authenticate the users on the system? ssh quirk after upgrade?
I did a dist-upgrade, kernel is 2.6.25-3 OpenSSH_4.76p1 Debian-9 The ssh server is ignoring the rsa-pub keys in ~/.ssh/authorized_keys (pam authentication is working though). I just bought a new HP-DV6700z notebook. It does not have the option to boot from (bootable pen-drive). The USB boot options are - USB floppy - USB Diskette on key The desktop is able to boot from the pen-drive. swap partition question?
I have a 1Gb primary swap partition (/dev/sda1) and fdisk -l shows that. But the command # swapon /dev/sda1 says that ..:/dev/sda1: is invalid argument. I made an entry in /etc/fstab (too): /dev/sda1 none swap sw 0 0 but swapon -a still syays that it is invalid argument! Grub question..
I did Linux install on a Vista machine but wrote the grub info to partition (and not MBR) - I want to dual boot using grub on bootable CD. /dev/sda1, /dev/sda2 are NTFS partitions /dev/sd3 (Linux swap), /dev/sda4 (Linux /, all there) I copied the grub menu.lst entry from /boot/grub/menu.lst (on /dev/sda4) as: title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.24-2.6.24.4.slh.5-sidux-686 root(hd0,3) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.24-2.6.24.4.slh.5-sidux-686 \ root=/dev/sda4 ro quiet vga=791 initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.24-2.6.24.4.slh.5-sidux-686 but grub fails to find the /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.24-2.6.24.4.slh.5-sidux-686 file. I find that upgrades often change the default session manager away from my preferred xfce. It is being by a HP-6700z notebeook in Vista-Home. I was trying to locate the .sys and .inf files (per ndiswarpper web page). I was able to find .sys file BCMWL6.SYS but no eauivalent .nf exits! It is way off but some one will direct me to the right place.. I am interested in knowing the storage and access architecture of 'Flash Memory'. Storage: how is the storage viewed? Contiguous or block based, is it possible to have random access etc. As comparison to hard-disk scenario is the access overhead (seek/rtotational/transfer delays) - do such concepts apply to flash memory? Access: USB interface is serial by nature, so, is the data accessed in a serial/sequential way or some other technique is used? You can do what you want, but I think most DHCP servers expect the clients to comply with periodically re-upping the lease. I'm not sure, but I think the lease period is probably specified by the server when the ip is granted. Read the manpages for client and servers to find out more. You could, for instance, simply change your network to use a static address with the ip you receive from the dhcp server -- but of course this would I did that but the client still goes for renewal. Temporary solution I have is to kill the DHCP client (not allow it to run). Linux and qemu-090 question
I am trying to install qemu-0.9.0 from sources, the system is debian based Linux box. I got the SDL-1.2.11 sources, compiled and installed (/usr/local/lib and ../bin) Got the 5/01-snapshot of qemu-0.9.0, compiled and installs (/usr/loca/bin again) An attempt to use it as: $ qemu -cdrom ./image.iso -boot d -m 256 -localtime results in: Could not initialize SDL - exiting $ ldd /usr/local/bin/qemu does show correct SDL link.. vde_switch bridge question?
I have a debian based Linux box (ProMepis) running a iptables firewall on interface eth0. I want to try bridging for qemu based hosts. Using vde_switch software I set up a bridge (br0) to which intefaces eth0 and tun0 are bridged to it. 1. I assume that now the firewall should be run on interface br0? If I do that I can connect to dept LAN after setting up the bridge else not. 2. How to use tun0 interface in the guest OS? Is the interface assigned an ip-address before starting the the guest OS? Scanner recommendation?

I don't know if they died, or finally responded to my Ctrl-C attempts, or finally responded to my kill -9 attempts, or what. Still, I would've thought a kill -9 would unequivocally, no questions asked, kill a process dead. But it apparently doesn't. Kill -9 is of no help if a process is stuck on time-out type event. Marvel 10/200/1000 on board LAN?
Hello I am trying to make an Intel D925XECV2 with motherboard with 'Marvel 10/100/1000 LAN' on board. Knoppix-3.9 (kernel 2.6.11, May/2005) also does not detect the inteface? Any one out there using this motherboard? What version of kernel might have the driver for it?
