...it just can't handle it??? ok...

i tried to search the net for converters...even apps made for

With GNOME or KDE is quite easy.

Go to the folder you have all the JPG files and select all the files,
right click and open with gThumb, select all the thumbnails and print
 them with GNOME PDF printer.

 You're done.

bruteforce protection howto

Two pc's:

1 - router
2 - logger

Situation: someone tries to bruteforce into a server, and the logger
get's a log about it [e.g.: ssh login failed].

What's the best method to ban that ip [what is bruteforcig a server]
what was logged on the logger?
I need to ban the ip on the router pc.

How can i send the bad ip to the router, to ban it?

Just run a cronjob, and e.g.: scp the list of ip's from the logger to
the router, then ban the ip from the list on the router pc?

Or is there any offical method for this?

I'm just asking for docs/howtos.. :\ to get started..

Thank you!

How can I do that in bash or perl, that I have a txt file, e.g.:

etc..
This is the second line, that doesn't contains links..
..
This is the XYZ line, that contains a link: http://www.somewhere.net

...ok.. so how could I make a regexp for this?

Turning:

http://website.org
http://www.website.org

to this:

a href=http://website.orghttp://website.org/a

The solution would be:

sed 'SOMEMAGIC' file.txt file.html

perl 'SOMEBIGMAGIC' file.txt file.html

To raise it above the hard limit you must be root.

I just thought of another way, which I think is even better.
In /etc/security/limits.conf, add *two* lines, in this order:

  databasehardnofile10240

That way, you don't have to mess with a bash profile. And it
should affect daemons too, without modifying their startup
scripts. If you want the change to affect all users, change
the word database to an asterisk (*). If you want it to
affect all members of a group, use an at sign (@) in front
of the group name, such as @sys.

I believe that Alex and I just told you, in effect.
But if you need detailed instructions, OK. :-(

First of all, it depends on whether you want this limit changed for
all users, all users of a group, or just one user, such as a database
server's userid. I'll give you an example for a single user.
I hope you can adapt these instructions if that's not the case.
Let's suppose that user database needs to be able to open up to
 10240 files at once.

In /etc/security/limits.conf, add the following line:

databasehardnofile 10240

In /home/database/.bash_profile add the following line:

ulimit -n 10240

Now shutdown and reboot. Now, whenever database logs in, his
file limit will be 10240. This assumes that the login shell for
database is bash. Of course, if a daemon needs these
privileges, this won't work, since there is no interactive
login shell. You may need to modify the daemon's start-up script
in this case to add the ulimit command.

If you want the limit to apply to all users, edit /etc/profile
instead of ~/.bash_profile. And in /etc/security/limits.conf,
substitute an asterisk (*) for the userid database. Again,
this assumes an interactive login shell of bash. Daemons, since they don't
have an interactive login shell, won't execute that ulimit
command. You'll have to find a place to put it. The startup
script in /etc/init.d might be a good place. But watch for
upgrades to the startup script which remove the modification.
If someone else has a better idea for how to implement this,
 let me know.

That does not make sense. Do you mean and it's now working,

The asterisk does start in column 1 of the file, right?
And there's no pound sign (#) in front of it, right?
The lines which start with a pound sign are comments.
The default version of this file is either blank lines

only sftp

2010-01-24 Thread Vadkan Jozsef
Now this is funny.

All the years pass, and theres no _NORMAL_ solution for this:

e.g.:

1 - theres a webmin on a server, an admin creates a domain on it.
2 - another admin [who manages _one_ domain] creates e.g.: a new user in
the domain.
3 - missing thing: that they can only use chrooted sftp [with shell
like: /bin/false].

Why? Why can't I create a normal chrooted SFTP server?

Why is that I set ChrootDirectory %h option in sshd_config, and when I
SFTP to it, it puts me on /? [permission denied]
:D ...

This thing really s*cks.

Developers are very lazy.

Why isn't there a GOOD solution to replace the old FTP to
SFTP???.

I have a 30/20 Mbit internet connection.

I want to buy a new router, because the old one: DL-604 is no longer

What router should I buy, that can handle a 30/20 connection?

No wifi, only ethernet.

Are there cheap routers that supports VLANs and can handle this speed

It would share the connection to ~4 pc's.

RouterBoard 750G? with level 4 licence?

Re: xorg + nvidia + tvout problem

2006-05-08 Thread Kercso Jozsef
Hi.
after few hours of trying, and trying I have found the problem: it
looks like the recent nvidia driver does not sends the signal to the
TV when the resolution is 800x600. I have modified the line
Option MetaModes 1024x768, NULL; 800x600, 800x600; 640x480, NULL
to
Option MetaModes 1024x768,1024x768; 800x600,NULL; 640x480,NULL
and now it works with the resolution 1024x768.

I don't know if this is a feature or a bug, but finaly is resolved. :)

Resizing the selection cannot be done with any graphic editor I know of. The
most you can do is make the selection shrink or grow; but this scales down
or increase its size proportionally.

I read the /usr/share/doc/mutt/README.Debian file and don't see any

  I am using mutt 1.5.4i.

Thanks in advance for getting me sorted.

Re: Fwd: image contents

2003-06-17 Thread Jozsef Bakosi
Henry-

if it's a basic debian install (even if it's not) I would consider
dowloading only the first (or maybe the first two) images. If you have
acces to net with reasonable speed, you should definetly only dl the
first one and update after you have installed a basic system or only
some disk-image.

Jozsef

i wonder if there is any documentation available about the contents of the cd

i know the images are auto-generated but there are currently 10 available and i
don't want to d/l everything... of course i could wade through the .template
files to see what packages are contained, but that's a bit annoying.. i would
like to have something like a summary helping me to decide what images to get...
any help appreciated.

Re: Kernel will not compile

2003-06-17 Thread Jozsef Bakosi
I use the deb-packages. On Unstable: kernel-package (8.040), gcc(3.3-2),
kernel-source-2.4.20 (2.4.20-8). I also had problems before, which could
be solved by changing the Makefile back to gcc-2.95 (eg. it compiled),
but now, with the packages above, everything seems to be just fine.

Best wishes,
Jozsef

This seems to be the common view of the kernel developers, but I've had
no trouble building 2.4.20 and .21 kernels using whatever gcc was
current in Debian unstable at the time (3.3 currently, and I just built
a .21 kernel the other day with it, which seems to be doing fine).
It may be relevant that I use kernel source tarballs from kernel.org,
not Debian packages, and I do not use make-kpkg.

Re: Audio CD questions

2003-06-17 Thread Jozsef Bakosi
Hello Roberto,

I use abcd with cdparanoia to grab and oggenc to encode in ogg. (No
patents with oggs!) Although these are console tools, they work just
perfect without any interaction, ie. grabbing cds track by track,
encoding them into ogg (you can set it to mp3 too, if you'd like mp3
better). If you want gui, I would suggest grip.

Jozsef

Greetings list,

Today, for the first time, I popped an audio CD in my laptop with the intention
of listening to it (the CD player portion of my stero broke during my last
move). I was very unhappy when gnome-cd and xmms both choked on it. It's an
older CD so I can't imagine it is DRM'd, but nonetheless I would still like to
play it (and a few others) on my computer. I did an apt-get cdda2wav and
messed around with that some until I managed to get some tracks on the
harddrive where I could play them with xmms, but I have a couple of problems.
1) I would like a GUI-type tool to facilitate putting the audio on my harddrive
and 2) I can't figure out how to tell cdda2wav to make each track into a
separate file when I try to grab the entire disc.

Could someone point me in the right direction here? Also, what does everyone
recommed for a preferred storage format (wav, mp3, ogg)?

I don't know if LinxE support linux, but with LinX (SM910) can support it
with standard VBE 2.0 with the XF86_FBDev driver. You can read about it at
http://www.mat.univie.ac.at/~gerald/laptop/asus.html. But the its
disadvantage is that in this way You cannot use the built-in hardware
acceleration.

gFTP is *very unstable* and usually segfaults with just about any

this with all other versions I have ever used.

IglooFTP is somewhat more stable, but still not enough to be useful.
This morning, it kept dying of a broken pipe. I had to boot to
Windows and run CuteFTP to find out that the site I was uploading to
was full. I can't believe that IglooFTP couldn't handle that gracefully.

 Any Ideas?
