Secure boot - Uefi installation

2017-04-17 Thread Karagkiaouris Diamantis

Dear All,

How can i install debian with UEFI support? Is there any simple tutorial?
Also do i have to disable the secure boot and then proceed with uefi
installation?
I have tried but then a message "could not authenticate boot media"
emerges and the boot stop right there.

I am new to debian and i don't want to abandon for this silly reason.

Thank you

Network Manager - network interfaces issue KDE

2016-11-21 Thread Karagkiaouris Diamantis

Dear All,

I have encountered an issue with Network Interfaces on Debian Testing
with KDE-Plasma 5.8.2. If a pc change fast the type of connection
between a lan and a wlan, NewtorkManager cannot address the change and
although there is an ip for both interfaces you will not have access to
internet. What i have done is to set the parameter *managed=true* on
*/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf* and then *systemctl restart
NetworkManager* to take into account the change.

I just wanted to report it in case someone else faced it.

Kind Regards,
Diamantis

Re: Is anybody Running Debian on Acer Aspire E5-571G

2016-01-23 Thread Karagkiaouris Diamantis

Hello,

I can't understand the problem. Netinstall interrupts due to missing
rt2800 package? Also in case you are not aware of it there are also
builds that have already non free firmware drivers. But they are unofficial:

http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/non-free/cd-including-firmware/

I didn't follow up the whole conversation so i might miss something.

I apologize in advance for my ignorance but is this really true
regarding the Linux kernel? (blobs?)

as far as I know, this is Debian specific (not only Debian, but other
Debian alike may no have the same), and often seen as a drawback, when
it's a great advantage; if one take all into account

Yes, of course, you are right. I didn't read carefully enough, and we were
talking about a Debian DVD. I don't actually know of a Debian derivative
that has the same policy - except probably Devuan. But then I don't know
every Debian derivative.

Re: Bypass Disk Usage Analyser

2015-10-04 Thread Karagkiaouris Diamantis
From your brief description it seems to me that this is a matter of
permissions. What permissions do you attach to these files? Also, when
you say "search" could you please be more specific? For me "search" for
example means "find " and open them by terminal. Some details will help.

want to be Nautilus instead.

Is there any method to fix this?

Is there a problem with installing rhythmbox and leaving gedit and
gnome-music where they are?

Hello,

You mean that i have to do a minimal install of debian without adding
the metapackage on installation and then add gnome manually? Is there
any info / guide on this?

Thank you,

Mark affected packages as manually installed.

Re: questions about debian installer prompts re: iwlwifi firmware

2015-09-25 Thread Karagkiaouris Diamantis
I would like to add that there is also iso with non free drivers on
debian.org. Just check if your hardware is included. Basically most
hardware is included but one more check never matters.

Tom, I regret no one has answered your question yet, for it is one that

and configure the network interface, and then reboot without the cable.
