Hello Can someone help with the instalation of this packages : libhtml-embperl-perl and/or libapache-asp-perl I don't know what to do afteter apt-get foo.deb . I set the perl module in apache but my page with perl code stay like the source. (i use an exemple code, from the package) Thanks

Hi, I rebuild my kernel with make-dpkg (as usual) but i get no better news. shutdown -h now or poweroff don't act to shutdown my box, just reboot. I have no apmd files. does someone know how to see if the APM option are well setting in my running kernel, because it's selected in : make xconfig and make menuconfig

Hi, for your question : This is a summary of what I have done: I set the APM option in the kernel 2.2.10. if I do halt, my box act like the use of reboot : it reboots using the shutdown of windows95 act as i want : power off the computer the command : #ps aux |grep apm root 2169 0.0 0.3 1148 416 pts/0S15:39 0:00 grep apm* to be sure I am recompiling my kernel.

XF86Setup gives Segmentation Fault

potato+slink
I read before that potato is a duplication of slink, and the potato's tree are just link to slink. And each time a new application is generated to potato the link to this become a new file. So if this is true, why using slink+potato but not just potato in apt-source? in fact i understood that if someone is using slink + some potatos it is usefull but with apt that make an auto upgrade it is really dangerous. A file's permission controler
Do someone know if there is a programme that is able to controle : - the permision right of all or part file installed in a debian machin including the directory's right. - the presence of the more importante or used file, directorys (/dev/audio, /dev/cdrom, ) - and create them if root says to do it if not, I am interesting to create one, with your help of course.

About xterm and arrow keys : after an upgrade a get this from ldconfig ldconfig: warning: can't open /lib/libNoVersion.so.1 (No such file or directory), skipping any idea ? this happend after installing X (3.3.3.1-? - 3.3.3.1-3) Since this time I can't use the up arrow key to find the previous commande in a xterm+bash 2.02 (or do any thing with it, like in dselect i can't move in the menu). but bash2.02 works with over term. thanks

3D Card
did someone know what kind of 3D card company, is really making the job to porting their hardware to Linux, especialy OpenGL ? Has anyone experienced this? If I untar the tar file manually, what are the required simlinks I need to create (like /usr/src/linux)? you will have to do just this : untar it and create this symbolic link.

hello, never, never do : chmod -R o+r .* anywhere. (I do it in /home). After doing this as root, I lose a lot of right acces every were for users. user can't use bash, profile dir, libreadline lib . is there a way to solve this ? using apt-get and force to download all my package and to install them again ? if you have potato installed, you can't use java, you have to go to slink (because glibc6), or wait jdk 1.2 who is in prerelease.

Someone says there is no solution to this except to downgrade libc6 (potato-slink) , but if you do this you will lose other package who need this. Some people stay with slink, get the source of package needed in potato and recompil waht they want from potato. Someone other use the jdk1.2beta with potato. Looks like you are using xemacs or similar editor that automatically backs up
for
you.
You can set the backup option to no.
I don't think you need to -R option. rm *~ should not have any problems.

The problem is that ther is a lot software taht do this backup file. So I would
like to
delete by only one command at my home directory.

find . -name '*~' | xargs echo
and if this looks ok, then edit the command to
find . -name '*~' | xargs rm -r
=
I think the best thing you could do is to write a small shell script and
put it somewhere along your path:
something like:
rm -rf *~ \#*\# *.bak *.old
call it cleandir or the like and you cannot run mistype disasters.
One approach, which I use, is to insert into .bashrc (edit to taste):
function cleanup
{
find . -name *~ -exec rm -i {} \;
find . -name .*~ -exec rm -i {} \;
find . -name #*# -exec rm -i {} \;
find . -name core -exec rm -i {} \;
}

Hello, could someone help me to make php running on potato+apache+kernel2.0.36. I can't make a simple code writing a web page. I select the php module in apache, write a simple html page on my locahost and in netscape : http://localhost/~user/php3_test.html but all my php code do nothing. see the dir : /etc/init.d# pour a executable script like the over for what you want to run at startup /etc/rc2.d# after that, make a symbolic link in this directory don't forget to make them executable in rc2.d give them the good number. good luck

Hello, I download netbeans from netbeans.com, but when I want to install it (like a user not root) with : java nbd2.1.class it says me that I have not a jdk1.1 but a jdk1.0 I use kaffe, jdk1.1 and jdk1.1-dev packages from potato. Bye.
