I would ask HP about this. You may need a special/concrete adapter or juts it is not even an option. Also, check is the adapter is in good shape and works in another system. ¹ Normal situation: I mean, using a standard BIOS/motherboard. HP -as many integrators do- modify/adapt computer BIOS to play nice with their systems. Being this a thin client, I would expect even a more integration performed by the manufacturer. Greetings, Hi, Thank you for your reply. Yes, this is a thin client. I solved the problem - it was a jumper that I needed to switch. But now I have another problem: During booting I have an error: dma_timer_expiry: dma status == 0x21 then, debian installer starts, byt after I set up partitions I get a message that system wasn't able to mount them. I try to install the system (Debian Lenny) from USB stick, via SYSLINUX. Am I nedd to add ide=nodma to the syslinux.cfg file? Maybe somebody had same problem? dma_timer_expiry - Installing Debian on CF card via adapter IDE--CF
Hi list, I try to install Debian Lenny on my HP 5700 Thin Client Terminal. The installation source is USB stick, bootloader - syslinux, netinstall.iso. As a hard drive I use Kingston CompactFlash 16GB Elite Pro 133x via adapter IDE--CF. During booting I get message dma_timer_expiry : dma status == 0x21, after a while system installer starts, but after partitioning I get a message that system wasn't able to mount the partitions. Whta can I do to fix this problem? Is this because my CF card or adapter doesn't support DMA? I consider acquisition of new adapter that I found which support DMA http://www.allegro.pl/item1014920705_cf_ide_44pin_adapter.html but I can't find if my CF card does. Could anybody help me how to fix this problem? Should I add something like ide=nodma to the syslinux.cfg? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Installation on HP T5700 from USB; partitioning
Hello everyone! According to this tutorial (http://d-i.pascal.at/) I was able to start the installation process from USB stick on my: HP 5700 Thin Client Terminal 1 GHz Processor 512 RAM 256 internal flash drive But I get stuck because there is not enough space even for minimal installation (netinstall.iso). Now the question: I have also another 4GB USB stick. Can I Install the biggest parts of the system on it? If yes, which parts of the filesystem do I need place on internal flash memory (IDE ATA, faster), and which on the USB stick? The device will be used as a FTP, NAS etc. Thanks on advance Krzysztof -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? I'm not sure what you're asking. It sounds to me like you want some tool on the server side, such as apache, that will keep track of how long a client user was staring at a web page that you served up. Is that right? Or did I misunderstand the question? I'll be the first to admit that I'm no expert, but I don't think this can be done. That's because there is no open connection. Once the web server has delivered the page to the browser, the connection is closed. The user can stare at that page for one second, one minute, one hour, one year, etc. The server doesn't know. That's why web developers use things like cookies to keep track of states. That's why add sellers charge by the hit or the click. Of course, if the web page contains a java applet, the rules are a bit different. The java applet can request a new add every 60 seconds, or something like that. But that's done from the client side. On the server side, it serves up the page and then forgets about you. On the server side, you keep track of hits, not connection times. Not exactly, but thank you for your reply. After all I learned something new from you. I thought about tool on the client side, something like history in a browser (or vnstat tool), but with time connection. Something that I can access via SSH and execute. Krzysztof -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Client side or server side, there's no persisting connection between the client and the server; so you can't measure elapsed times. You can, in theory at least, make a list of which pages were served up, and when. But you cannot easily determine how much elapsed time was spent on a particular site. You don't know if that page which was served up at 8 AM was being looked at for 8 seconds, 8 minutes, or 8 hours. Thanks a lot.
