Question about module loading from floppy

2005-12-23 Thread Marc Demlenne
Hello,

I have to start a machine with rescue CD because lilo is broken. (I
probably just have to run /sbin/lilo as root to correct this) The
problem is that booting with rescue root=/dev/sda1 won't work because
my drive is a RAID-5 and I need to load an extra-module to make it
work.

I have this module on floppy, however. How can I tell Debian to load
the module from /dev/fd0 before trying to mount root FS ?

Thanks for any help !

Maybe misunderstanding from mine ...
But cdrecord runs perfectly well on command line with my 2.6 and
without scsi emulation. XcdRoast doesn't, thought ! It claims for scsi
emulation ! This problem is mentioned on their web site.
What's the problem in that case ?

Refering other answers, i'm still using an old 2.6.5. Not taken the
time yet to upgrade to 2.6.10.

Hi,

Got the same problem. When recompiling my 2.6 for the first time, i
switched off SCSI emulation as it's said not to be needed any more.

But xcdroast still _does_ need SCSI emulation. If you take a look on
their site, you'll see :

"I had several reports that the last 2.6.x kernel broke CD-Writing
using the ATAPI driver. Don't update if you want to continue to use
X-CD-Roast, or switch back to SCSI-emulation."

So there's no other solution ! You still use scsi emulation, even with
2.6, or yuou take smthg else to burn your CD.

By the way, i post another question... What's the best way to burn
CD's under Linux ? xcdroast used to be a must, but doesn't seem to be
well maintained any more, does it ? Maybe it's still a must anyway ?

Another way to burn is to do this manually, on console line. Not the
easiest way, but a reliable one !
You can take a look at CD-Burning howto, it's not so difficult !

Good luck !

Yep, already done... But nothing found ...
I should have mention it in my first message.

Thanks for the reply !

gmailfs

2004-12-28 Thread Marc Demlenne
Hi,

Has anyone already try GmailFS on debian ?
Is there a way to find the packages needed by apt-get install gmailfs ?

Dépend: fuse-utils (>= 2.0+2.1pre0) mais 1.3-1 devra être installé
Dépend: python-fuse (>= 2.0+2.1pre0) mais 1.3-1 devra être installé

The asked packages arn't available on 'unstable'... Does someone know
where one could find it ?

Thanks

Seems to be a good way to operate, rather secure... But isn't there a
way to manage this automatically ? It doesn't sounds impossible nor
stupid, does it ?

Re: Package to block random SSH login attempts?

2004-12-23 Thread Marc Demlenne
You can also propose to everyone who want to verify the integrity of
its system to check that himself. A script like chkrootkit which
search for the signature of a past ssh (or other) attack.
A simple reference in the doc of ssh could alarm lots of people. cron
ta run it periodically, and don't bother to find a contact address.

Print filter

2004-12-20 Thread Marc Demlenne
Hi,

I'm searching an input filter ('if' in printcap files) witch could
convert ESC/P2 formatting input to PCL or PS compatible ...

Does anyone know anything about that ?

If i'd better go to another mailing list, please let me know !

Thanks for all help !

Printing filter

2004-12-17 Thread Marc Demlenne
Hi,

[Not sure to be on the right list. You can redirect me if i'm not]

I have an old app running on SCO unix. It uses an old dot matrix
printer, speaking epson language with it.

Now i have to change the printer by an HP laser one witch doesn't
support epson emulation at all, unhappily. I use a CUPS print server
on a linux/debian box to reach it.

I'm searching a filter to convert ESC/P language to PCL or PS one. But
haven't find it so long. Adding the correct 'if' line in printcap file
could solve the problem ...

Could anybody help me ?

Thanks a lot
