Re: problem with microphone and alsa - no sound?
in snd the meter i supposed to move afaik. i dont know about audacity, but recording in audacity records silence only ... hence something is wrong. martin On Thu, May 19, 2005 at 07:27:56AM +0200, Jonathan Kaye wrote: -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 En/La Martin A. I mean does it respond when you talk into your mike? I think in audacity, the default is that you don't hear yourself while you're recording but you push some button (sorry don't remember what it's called) and then you do hear. The important thing is if you see the metre responding the it is receiving input. If nothing happens then there's a problem. ok i have now gone over the reports in the mail achive and they seem to be concered with missing capture or mic level set to 0. however, i dont think that is the problem here, because according to the amixer dump i posted, that is not the case here: Simple mixer control 'Mic',0 Capabilities: pvolume pvolume-joined pswitch pswitch-joined cswitch cswitch-joined cswitch-exclusive Capture exclusive group: 0 Playback channels: Mono Capture channels: Front Left - Front Right Limits: Playback 0 - 31 Mono: Playback 31 [100%] [on] Front Left: Capture [on] Front Right: Capture [on] so any suggestions are indeed most welcome. best regards martin On Sat, May 14, 2005 at 08:48:41PM +0200, wrote: hi i cant get my microphone to work with alsa. i need help :o) [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/maasha# dpkg -l |grep alsa ii alsa-base 1.0.8-7ALSA driver configuration files ii alsa-oss 1.0.8-1ALSA wrapper for OSS applications ii alsa-utils 1.0.8-4ALSA utilities rc alsaconf 0.4.3b-4 ALSA configurator [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/maasha# lspci | grep Multi :00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp. 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 02) :02:02.0 Multimedia controller: Philips Semiconductors SAA7134 (rev 01) [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/maasha# lsmod | grep snd snd_pcm_oss53444 1 snd_mixer_oss 19104 2 snd_pcm_oss snd_intel8x0 32964 3 snd_ac97_codec 58820 1 snd_intel8x0 snd_pcm92992 2 snd_pcm_oss,snd_intel8x0 snd_timer 25152 1 snd_pcm snd_page_alloc 12324 2 snd_intel8x0,snd_pcm snd_mpu401_uart 8608 1 snd_intel8x0 snd_rawmidi24384 1 snd_mpu401_uart snd_seq_device 9284 1 snd_rawmidi snd55364 11 snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm,snd_timer,snd_mpu401_uart,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq_device soundcore 11136 4 saa7134,snd [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/maasha# amixer Simple mixer control 'Master',0 Capabilities: pvolume pswitch pswitch-joined Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right Limits: Playback 0 - 31 Front Left: Playback 31 [100%] [on] Front Right: Playback 31 [100%] [on] Simple mixer control 'PCM',0 Capabilities: pvolume pswitch pswitch-joined Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right Limits: Playback 0 - 31 Front Left: Playback 31 [100%] [on] Front Right: Playback 31 [100%] [on] Simple mixer control 'Surround',0 Capabilities: pvolume pswitch Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right Limits: Playback 0 - 31 Front Left: Playback 0 [0%] [off] Front Right: Playback 0 [0%] [off] Simple mixer control 'Center',0 Capabilities: pvolume pvolume-joined pswitch pswitch-joined Playback channels: Mono Limits: Playback 0 - 31 Mono: Playback 31 [100%] [off] Simple mixer control 'LFE',0 Capabilities: pvolume pvolume-joined pswitch pswitch-joined Playback channels: Mono Limits: Playback 0 - 31 Mono: Playback 0 [0%] [off] Simple mixer control 'Line',0 Capabilities: pvolume pswitch pswitch-joined cswitch cswitch-joined cswitch-exclusive Capture exclusive group: 0 Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right Capture channels: Front Left - Front Right Limits: Playback 0 - 31 Front Left: Playback 31 [100%] [on] Capture [off] Front Right: Playback 31 [100%] [on] Capture [off] Simple mixer control 'CD',0 Capabilities: pvolume pswitch pswitch-joined cswitch cswitch-joined cswitch-exclusive Capture exclusive group: 0 Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right Capture channels: Front Left - Front Right Limits: Playback 0 - 31 Front Left: Playback 31 [100%] [on] Capture [off] Front Right: Playback 31 [100%] [on] Capture [off] Simple mixer control 'Mic',0 Capabilities: pvolume pvolume-joined pswitch pswitch-joined cswitch cswitch-joined cswitch-exclusive Capture exclusive group: 0 Playback channels: Mono Capture channels: Front Left - Front Right Limits: Playback 0 - 31 Mono: Playback 31 [100%] [on] Front Left: Capture [on] Front Right: Capture [on] Simple mixer control 'Mic Boost (+20dB)',0 Capabilities: pswitch pswitch-joined Playback channels: Mono Mono: Playback [on] Simple mixer control 'Mic Select',0 Capabilities: Mono: Simple mixer control 'Video',0 Capabilities: pvolume pswitch pswitch-joined cswitch cswitch-joined cswitch-exclusive Capture exclusive group: 0 Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right Capture channels: Front Left - Front Right Limits: Playback 0 - 31 Front Left: Playback 0 [0%] [off] Capture [off] Front Right: Playback 0 [0%] [off] Capture [off] Simple mixer control 'Phone',0 Capabilities: cswitch cswitch-joined cswitch-exclusive Capture exclusive group: 0 Capture channels: Front Left - Front Right Front Left: Capture

Current versions (=6.0) of vim handle gzipped files automatically, and also set the 'nomodifiable' flag on help files. The nomod flag causes the old autocommands to fail.
