It's neither of the above ..

BTW i use kernel 2.0.29 with a SB AWE32 (SB16)

The problem is:
When I come to the point where I'm supposed to enter the I/O-base adress for
the SB-card I
choose the default-value (which is 220). But no matter what I enter the only
response is
'No help page for this option yet' ..

How to install own kernel

1997-03-09 Thread Mikael Hallendal
Hi!

Can someone tell me step by step how to install a new kernel in Debian.
I know how to do it in Slackware but it seems to be a little different in
debian.
My /usr/include directory is full of subdirs, I usually set the
/usr/include/linux as a link to
point to my kernelsource but it's a bit difficult when it is a subdir already.

I want to install kernel 2.0.29 can I just download it from sunsite and
install it ...
I've understand that you can make an own kernel-image.deb (does I have to)?

Thanks in advance/
Micke

Changing kernel.

1997-03-01 Thread Mikael Hallendal
Hello!

I'm about to compile a new kernel. Do I have to take the .deb kernel or can I
download the latest from sunsite.unc.edu?

sysklogd 1.3-13

1997-02-20 Thread Mikael Hallendal
Hi!

Why is it that the new sysklogd in 'unstable' dependens on an old bash and not
on the new one?

Is there any packages that dependes on bash 2.0-2 or is it just to downgrade
it to the one in section stable so that I can get sysklogd working??

/Micke

help with dselect

1997-02-20 Thread Mikael Hallendal
Hi!

Today I connected to ftp.debian.org with dselect to see if there was any new
packages.
It was and among them there was a new version of sysklogd. Now the dependences
for this one states that it depends on bash (<<2.0.1). When using ftp I have
chosen [unstable contrib non-free] for my FTP-selections, this means that the
only available bash is 2.0.2 with is >2.0.1

Now my question.
Is there a way to tell dselect not to try installing this new version, not
using the - wich causes it to be removed the next time you do remove.

What now happened was that it tried to install it but wasn't able to. It was
able to trash my old one though.

I found what was wrong. By some reason it was my sendmail that sent them over
and over again. I think it was that. Anyway, either sendmail or exmh changed
owener and permissions on my mailfile in /var/spool/mail. When I changed that
there was no more problems.

Sendmail

1997-02-18 Thread Mikael Hallendal
Hi!

Is there anyone who has had problem with sendmail changing owner of the files
in
/var/spool/mail.
I had a problem with some mails going in a loop on my local host so I looked
around and
found that the owner of my mail-file had changed from group mail to users.

Hi!

I have a question. The same messages are dropping in over and over again. I've
got the
