Changing back to dial up after cable w/ static IP
I just had to end a comfortable situation w/ my cable modem provider and would like to be able to use dial up w/ DHCP once again but am a little stymied as to what I should address for /dev/ttyS0 to be considered the primary network interface instead of eth0 for internet. This box was built w/ static IP and can connect w/ my ISP (dial up) but I think it's still trying to use it's cable modem IP instead of requesting DHCP to get an IP from the dial up ISP. I have poured through the network HOWTO but cannot find how to differentiate the network interfaces so that I can use my modem for internet while still keeping LAN capability w/ eth0. Any help would be appreciated! I am going to focus some attention at mask situations for this issue next. = ^-_-^-_-^-_-^-_-^-_-^-_-^-_-^-_-^-_-^-_-^-_-^-_-^-_-^ Why? Why not? Why not try? This may be OT....SMP build question
I have recently put together a Atrend ATC6260 Dual PII 400 w/ 128 SDRAM and installed frozen on it using dselect's apt option. The default uni-kernel I soon replaced w/ make-kpkg of the 2.2.14-5 (debian aquired) variety and it is perfect EXCEPT that upon boot klogd will monopolize 50% of the kernel resources until termed. This is less than an optimal situation. I have read the bug list and nothing seems to indicate symptoms that are the same. If you could help I would greatly appreciate it. Re: Need parameters for lance ethernet on install

I also tried 5,0x300,eth0 in case the installed didn't need the rest. I see myself as having three options: Dear Josh, I, myself, had this same sort of problem with an install on an Intergraph TD-3 90Mhz system. It comes w/ an onboard AMD lance chip w/ TPO . It was not pretty.. But I love the box, so when doing a fresh install (caused by a blitzed upgrade from slink to potato), I would bang my head into the same wall. It was puzzling too.According to a Doc I read, the lance is supposed to be one of the best supported chips for Debian. The resolution was this... I first (after drivers had been loaded), used the Alt+F2 method to get a term while installing and used the 'insmod' and 'modprobe' to try to address the card from outside the install, but this would give me Device or resource busy when returning to the install if I could load the chip. If I remember correctly, When I got to the parameter line entry part of the install for that chip I entered: 0x340,5,5,0 : and that seemded to work (finally) after puzzling those values from motherboard jumpers documentation and the software BIOS utility. The AMD supplied DOS diagnostic refused to see the chip. Those values I used at the term as I said above until I could find the correct sytax the command wanted. Then went back to the install and tried them until I could get it to recognize the card. The hanging during the installs modprobe could be cured by doing Ctrl+C (or maybe Z) w/o killing the entire install and even though the install term was hanging I could Alt+F2 (F3,F4,etc.) to try different values and then go back to the install modprobe, kill it, and try the newly discovered syntax until it worked. Setting up eth0 was a breeze w/ SLINK [2.0.36](or maybe beginners luck was responsible) but I got it to install the 1st time after I supplied parameters. The fresh install of POTATO [2.2.14] was a B*TCH! But well worth it though. My advice comes from those experiences w/ ONE chip/ card, so take them for what they may be worth concerning a HAMM install w/ 3. I would suggest that you start w/ A card and then add the others after install (an interesting procedure I hear from the lists, but not impossible w/ the correct info)but this, again, is IMO. I hope it helps you. Stetson |-Why? Why not? Why not try?-| The rule of an inquisitive mind. = Why? Why not? Why not try? The rule of an inquisitive mind. __ Do You Yahoo!? Problem w/ libc6
I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this and, if so, what work-around have they implimented: Setting up libc6 (2.1.3-2) ... Current default timezone: 'America/Chicago'. I know, I have only myself to blamefor treading the dark waters of a non-stable release but I was trying to work back into the stable fold now that the freeze is on. Re: potato dselect still broken?
Thank you for asking! No I have not received an answer except from a person suggesting that I use it to take out all the yucky packages like xbiff (he hates xbiff). But other than that no. Do you have a suggestion? I would really apperciate any help you can give me! Thanks again for asking!! I hope to tell you that I've been helped with an answer soon. T. Revised post (off topic?)
I would like to resubmit this query of the list. I have revised it somewhat to make more sense. I have done interesting things.I am running potato and went to ftp.debian.org to get the latest updates via apt. I was using dselect and selected all updated packages from the availability list. I removed the recommended removal or hold packages (plus a few other items) and went to install. After it downloads the packages and goes to install it delivers me this message: =100% [Scanning Packages] =Configuring packages ... =Syntax error: no argument at /tmp/fileBesgE2 line 224. =E: Sub-process dpkg-preconfig --apt retunred error code (2) =E: Failure running script dpkg-preconfig --apt =Some failures occurred whileetc. =installation script returned error exit status 100 Line 224 of /tmp/fileBasgE2 is: =die Sytax error: no argument if ($#ARGV , 0); (It's in the generic part) I know that I have done this but I'm not exactly sure how.
