Browser problems
Hello fellow Debian users. I was wondering if anyone running Sid/Unstable on an AMD Duron with 256MB of RAM has been experiencing problems on i386 getting browsers to work? I can't start Galeon, Konqueror OR Mozilla. I need mozilla becuase I installed Java and play Runescape. I have KDE 3.1.3 and I have been updating daily without any problems. From the last week of August to the second week of September 2003, I had no problems starting ANY browser. Now I find myself using Firebird, which while it is nice, I miss mozilla and Galeon. I was wondering if anyone encountered this same problem. It happens on AT LEAST KDE 3.1.3 and GNOME 2.2. My laptop works fine, and it's got top of the line bleeding edge stuff, like X 4.3 because it's a March 2003 Powerbook, so I am eluded as to why the browsers work on Unstable PPC when I have update both at the same time. :-/ Any suggestions? -- -BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK- Version: 3.12 GCS !d s:-- a- C UL--- P+ L++ E--- W+++ N+++ o+ K+ w--- O M++ V-- PS PE Y+ PGP+++ t+++ 5+++ X+++ R++ tv+++ b DI+++ D+ G e h! r% y+ --END GEEK CODE BLOCK-- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Re: Any VOIP or something like Netmeeting(tm) or voice applicationsfor debian?
Also, gnome-meeting is trying to be a net meeting clone. It supports, voice and webcam :-) Brian Potkin wrote: On Sat, Aug 09, 2003 at 10:01:48PM -0400, J F wrote: Any VOIP or something like Netmeeting(tm of Microsoft, Inc) or voice applications for debian? I would like to talk to my friend over the internet using debian. Any recommended applications? speak-freely is an internet telephone application which I have found to function well. There is also a Windows version should your friend be using that operating system. Note that the Debian package only supports half-duplex operation but you can easily get full-duplex by compiling from the source. Brian.
Problem with logging in (Constant password change)
Hi all, I have a PPC, but it's pretty much the same on both since I have an x86 box as well. N E Hoo, here's the problem... I login to the system, and it says I need too create a new password. This is for root AND user! And it also happens everytime I login, it says I need to make a new password. The system is an iMac with Debian Potato. I did a fresh install because had to repartition my drives for 2 other OSes. How do I fix this, because I had a copy of YDL 2.1 lying around, and I installed it, but it does the same thing so I went back to debian. I am very sure that I did what I do normally when I install, I just DO NOT KNOW. Thanks. Patrick -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bus error on eth0, network card works, but lpr says device or resource busy.
Hi, I am trying to install Debian Potato, on my PC. But, when I enable plip (parallel port support), I get an error with lpr saying device or resource busy. Now what's weird, is the night before, I was on IRC, and I got a bus error on eth0 but the network card works fine. That happened on redhat. Anyone have any ideas? I might have caught that worm that closes ports and the port for the printer and ethernet card is closed, I am unsure. Man, I want Debian so bad I can taste it :-) Regards, Patrick
ISOs for Debian PPC and x86
Hi, How do I make ISOs for Debian Potato on PPC and x86 architecture? Can someone point me to a HOWTO or does someone know how to do it? Cheers, Patrick
Getting hyped about a possible of Debian PPC on an iMac DV Special Edition.
Hi Debian community, I want to install Debian on an iMac DV Special Edition and Compaq Presario 9232, made in 1996. It's a P120 with 40 MB of RAM, but I need to know what is compatible. For example, I have a Que CD Burner. A kritter USB webcam and a DVD player, a USB epson stylus scan 2500 and a USB wheel mouse, two buttons, by Kensington. Oh! and an ATI rage 128 graphics card on the mac, and Quantum Fireball hard drives 1 and 1.2 gig on the PC. If anyone can point me to howtos and compatabilities list, I would appriciate it. Like what tools to and and how to partition the disk. I get my x86 and PPC CDs hopefuly real son so I can learn debian. SuSE sucked, because I paid $50 and found outit had a bad boot loader, and I have had Red Hat from 4.2 to 7.0-respin on x86 and now 7.1 or Mandrake 8.0 don't work I get IRC timouts, but who cares, Debian is what I use in college. And I hear WONDERFUL things about debian...get a cd and apt-get for life! :-) Long live Debian, the chice of a GNU Generation. Patrick
Unable to find modem.
Hi, I downloaded the Debian Potato floppies and was going to install Debian over PPP. However, my modem is not found. It found it on Red Hat, then it quit working on Red Hat. I am in Windoze now, so I know it works cause I dialed into my ISP with it. It's COM2 under DOS and ttyS1 under Linux. It has worked since Red Hat 4.2, but then, I goto Red Hat 7.0-respin, and it doesn't work. I tried to install Potato once before the modem worked fine. What's wierd is it works under Windows and not Linux. What now? :-( Regards, Patrick
Another newbie (problems with installation)
Hi, I have been a Redhat user since 4.2. I now have SuSE 6.4 but don't like it. I have the Debian 2.2r0 CDs that were burnt by a friend but I can't install the OS and kernel, or the base system, also, it has trouble finding the directories and mounting the floppy. Here's the situation: I have everything I need (floppies and such), but it can't seem to find anything. I know the CDs and floppies work, bcause my friend installed it on his machine. What am I doing wrong? I checked the install manual on the website, I think I am just really intimidated. Can someone help. I heard you could get everythng with the CDs and a dial up connection? ALL help would be GREATLY appriciated!!! Cheers, Patrick
