invisible mailboxes in evolution
I'm using Debian Testing, and it's been working for about the last eight months w/o too much issue. I have a sudden problem now though, that being that I can open Evolution and see the summary, calendar, and task pages, but nothing with an email in it (drafts/sent/trash/inbox/etc.). Clicking on one of those folders presents me with an empty window pane, with just the std search bar at the top present for that display. I've checked everything I can think of, including verifying I had no hidden messages. I thought perhaps I'd muffed my $home/evolution directory, so backed the current one up, and restored from a month's old backup. Same exact problem, though the display no longer recognized that I had any unread emails. Debian Testing, Evolution 1.4.6, Gnome 2.6 I'd appreciate any tips or help. Did you upgrade anything yesterday? I lost mine (I think) after an apt-get upgrade. I have an nforce2 chipset which has built in ethernet and sound, and as both are gone for me - assumed it was the chipset. apt-get upgrade == no eth0/sound for nforce2
I installed debian testing in mid febuary, and everything was working fine. The onboard ethernet and sound for my nforce2 board (shuttle xpc) were detected, and worked. Yesterday though I ran 'apt-get update' and 'apt-get upgrade', and after booting the computer later that evening, was left without sound or network. I do recall that gdm, cdrecord, and gftp were some of the packages upgraded, though wouldn't think they'd have any bearing on the above. I tried to find a way to determine what else was changed, but am stumped - maybe someone else knows. This machine is a dualboot, and these devices still work inside of windows (which i'm posting from). Comparing an older bootlog to the current one, it seems that the forcedeth and audio driver loadings aren't even attempted. Line for line they are identical, except where the ethernet or audio should be loaded, there is nothing - not even an error. Everything else appears to be normal. USB is working, as is the graphics card (compiled nvidia, add-in card, not built in). I'm running kernel 2.4.24 I'd appreciate any help or pointers, Thanks, Paul -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
ALSA walkthrough anyone?
OK, I've managed to completely confuse myself with ALSA trying to get my 82801DB ICH4 sound working. I've compiled a 2.4.20 kernel (the Debian way I think) and installed a few versions of ALSA in a few different places but sound doesn't work and neither does my ethernet card (although it does in my safe 2.4.18 kernel). I can't supply too much more info without knowing where to look and what is relevant. As a start, below is /var/log/dmesg for the 2.4.20, any pointers in plainspeak would be greatly appreciated. Kernel fallback
Back again so soon? Hello all, I've been trying (and still am) to compile a 2.4.20 kernel with alsa modules to enable my soundcard, as per the good advice given me earlier. So far I've tried the Debian way and the old fashioned way and I'm nearly there but not quite - I now have a 2.4.20 kernel that doesn't work right as the default and a 2.4.18 kernel in good order (apart from sound) that I can boot into from lilo. My question is - If I now try to install another kernel will my current 2nd choice (2.4.18) disappear, and if so how do I stop it from doing so as it's my only fully operational choice at present? Does this question make any sense?? Thanks Paul -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Kernel help - ICH4 (82801DB) onboard sound
Thanks to all who helped earlier. I've now found that I may be able to get sound using a kernel 2.5.11 or above (http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/linux/audio.htm), is there a specific version that anyone could recommend? Also I've only ever used kernel sources supplied with the distribution before, is there a deb package I need and a debian specific procedure or should I just RTFM and post again when I've buggered it up? Unsupported Soundcard - Help!
Hello all Trying this one yet again - I suppose I may just have to buy another soundcard, recommendations anyone? BTW sndconfig tells me the card isn't supported. My new PC has a built in soundcard and despite a lot of RTFMing and experimentation I still have no idea how to make it work. The motherboard manual says: "Integrated Audio Controller in Intel 82801DB I/O Controller Hub (ICH4)" "AD 1981A/Realtek ALC202A Audio Codec '97" What I fondly imagine to be the relevant portion of "lspci -v": "00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 24c5 (rev 01) Subsystem: Trigem Computer Inc.: Unknown device 3186 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 9 I/O ports at 1c00 [size=256] I/O ports at 18c0 [size=64] Memory at e8000c00 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512] Memory at e8000800 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=256] Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2" "lsmod": "Module Size Used by Tainted: P snd-pcm-oss 36100 0 (autoclean) snd-mixer-oss 10528 0 (autoclean) [snd-pcm-oss] snd-intel8x0 15904 0 (autoclean) snd-pcm 54976 0 (autoclean) [snd-pcm-oss snd-intel8x0] snd-timer 10208 0 (autoclean) [snd-pcm] snd-mpu401-uart 2560 0 (autoclean) [snd-intel8x0] snd-rawmidi 12192 0 (autoclean) [snd-mpu401-uart] snd-seq-device 3760 0 (autoclean) [snd-rawmidi] snd-ac97-codec 24880 0 [snd-intel8x0] snd 24104 0 [snd-pcm-oss snd-mixer-oss snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm snd-timer snd-mpu401-uart snd-rawmidi snd-seq-device snd-ac97-codec] soundcore 3492 4 [snd] nvidia 1466752 10 8139too 13920 1 mii 1088 0 [8139too]" Has anyone got any ideas, or more information I need to supply??
