Re: _Very_ strange problem with compiling
I don't think this is a GCC error because gcc compiles this program successfully. The problem is: you're simply asking for too much stack space. On my machine, ulimit -s reports 8129 (that's in Kilobytes). When I write a seperate program such as: #include void main(int argc, char **argv) { double a[209677]; printf("%d\n", sizeof(a)*5/1024); } it reports a total usage of 8190K in stack space. This is obviously over the limit. So just increase the stack space and the program runs fine: (ulimit -s ) As for the slight difference between the two executables, that's because you were storing symbols in the executable. If you run them through strip there is no difference between the two files. Yeah, we use it at work, however in order to get it to work we had to change the nsswitch.conf from: passwd: compat group: compat To: passwd: files nis group: files nis Keeping everything else the same. It worked after we did that. We're not using shadow passwords either, in case that makes a difference to you. I did not set it up, but I'm fairly certain that was all it took to get it to work. Postgresql documentation/behavior inconsistency
I've just installed the latest unstable release of postgresql (v 7.0.2) on my machine, and I'm a little confused with an inconsistency in the local documentation and the docs provided at Postgresql.org. On this page: http://www.postgresql.org/docs/tutorial/advanced.htm#AEN1494 it says that the "Select * from cities*" is old, deprecated behavior. However in my local copy the documentation reflects that as the current behavior. As far as I can tell 7.0.2 is the latest. Does anybody know the source of the inconsistency? I'd really rather prefer the behavior documented at the site (by default the query examines subclasses). Thanks, Peter -- Peter D. Kovacs KnowPost.com LLC Lead Engineer [EMAIL PROTECTED] --

Debian has an /etc/rcS.d/ which is a general equivalent to rc.local. That's how I get a few things like a samba mount, and fetchmail running. I'm not sure where I found that information, but hey, it works. Peter - --- Peter D. Debian uses SysV style init. From what I can tell, you can put your local init scripts in either /etc/rc.boot/ or /etc/rcS.d/ What I do is write a script, put it in /etc/init.d/ and link to it from /etc/rcS.d/ HTH, Peter --- Peter D. Did you put a 2 GB drive in your computer? Most likely it's a 2GB but DOS is so horribly broken that it only sees the first 504 MB of the drive. Just be glad Linux isn't and use the whole 2 gigs. (No, you don't need to upgrade your bios, unless it's giving you boot errors, but there should be something in the bios that says "Ignore boot errors" or something like that).
