Re: does anybody remember which debian release was it that asked for the MAC ID details at the end ?

I can't think of a reason the installer would ever ask for the MAC, unless you are talking some odd ball ARM hardware that didn't have a MAC in hardware and required the user to provide one. But would Debian have even had an installer for such a thing? Note that there are parts that parse BOOTIF= from the kernel command-line. That's a different case of MAC address passing, but it exists. Mostly to tell the OS which network card the machine PXE booted from, to continue using that interface during installation/early boot. Kind regards Philipp Kern

While I did not take care about the fallout due to time constraints on my side, I did take a look at the meta-gnome2 migration back then. We did not place any approval hint but it seems that the multiple arch:all confused britney sufficiently so that she decided to migrate those packages without any hint at all. Sadly I was unable to track down the bug in question and our log keeping is currently almost non-existant. As soon as something is copied over to testing autobuilding is automatically stopped, which might be another bug of its own. Kind regards, Philipp Kern -- .''`. A small correction: the autobuilders will need a day or two until all builds for all architectures are available. I only uploaded amd64, not i386. Kind regards, Philipp Kern -- .''`. Pushed as pidgin 2.4.3-4lenny1~volatile0 into volatile-proposed. Please test and report back. Thanks to Ari Pollak for preparing the upload to proposed-updates (so it will be included in the next point release anyway). volatile-proposed can be activated temporarily by adding this line to your /etc/apt/sources.list: deb http://volatile.debian.org/debian-volatile lenny-proposed-updates/volatile main Kind regards, Philipp Kern -- .''`.
