I can't give you an answer, but i can tell you how to transform your ext2 partitions. I did it just a few days ago, make sure your kernel supports ext3, then you have to add a journal to your ext2 partitions (tune2fs -j /dev/..). After that edit your /etc/fstab change the filesystems to ext3 and reboot.
