running Debian on a nokia cell phone?

2004-12-28 Thread Rainer Bendig aka Ny
Hi,

is there any documentation how to run a minimal Debian on a Nokia
6600? And yes i know that this is a silly idea :-) And I know it that
i'll maybe loose the possibility to make calls with the cell phone ^^.

cheers,
Rainer

I have patched my 2.6.8 Kernel with bootsplash (working ^^), and i am
able to provide it as a *.deb. The only thing changed from Original
Debian Kernel is the "Pentium 4" instead of "Pentium Pro" optimization
(i hate my english... hope you understood :)

Hmmm i am using different mirrors for apt. And apt-get always takes
the first server written in /etc/apt/sources.list ... if there is a
404-error or something strange it takes the second ... and so on ...

You can't run fetchmail with a http/s proxy ... that are 2-3/3-4
different protocols. If you want to run fetchmail you need to ask your
network administrator to give you a route on port 110 (or whatever you
need) in the firewall. He can do this only for your IP.

> A whole bunch of products stopped working. apt-get is no longer working.

unresolvedissue:~# export http_proxy="http://0.0.0.0:8080";
unresolvedissue:~# export ftp_proxy="http://0.0.0.0:80";
unresolvedissue:~# apt-get update ; apt-get dist-upgrade
this is my setup for working with a http & ftp squid proxy and apt-get
(also wget and other apps are using those vars...) maybe you want to
put those export commands into you /root/.bashrc or /home/user/.bashrc

That's a common message in 2.6.x kernel with a matrox HDD, don't think
about it. It was discussed in this, and in many other lists a few
months ago, just search for "command error: status=0x51 {DriveReady
SeekComplete Error }"

:-)

Hmm on my "old" unstable box i have the same problem. On my newer apt
makes his/hers job as usual.

What happens when you start "oowriter" from a shell e.g. xterm? Whats
