DNS works fine fromt he other side of my MASQ router; Perhaps there is some difference between UDP dns requests and TCP? *shrug* I would suspect some stray ipchains rule is denying the DNS traffic. My internal house network is 192.168.1.x My friends subnet is 192.168.2.x Basically, you can use any number... i don't think you can use 0 however. Since they're private IPs you can use any IP addressing scheme you want. If you are only going to have one subnet, i would use the 192.168.1.x one. ftape on woody
debian-user-ers, I have a generic QIC-80 tape drive which I know works with Linux/Ftape, as it was installed and working with a redhat 5.2 system. However, i now wish to get it working in my Debian Woody system, and have encountered many problems. The drive is the only device hooked up to the floppy controller on the motherboard, and is plugged into the fd0 position at the end of the cable (after the twist). Firstly, the Ftape documentation/FAQs/HOWTOs/etc make mention of an ftape-internal.o module, yet this does not seem to be a module on my system. Also, I installed the 'ftape-utils' package, which created references to this module in /etc/modutils! If i insmod zftape and ftape, that goes okay. However, if i try and use the device it says 'Device not configured'. Modprobing zftape reports: /lib/modules/2.2.17/misc/ftape.o: invalid parameter parm_ft_fdc_driver Is there some blatantly obvious thing I am overlooking? Thanks very much, Dan -- Spinfire MagentaIn Real Life: Dan Noe Freelance Hackerhttp://www.isomerica.net/ 31 5B 89 66 F7 E8 73 34 50 6A 79 C4 32 E1 0E 4A pgpbusrTeoP0z.pgp Description: PGP signature
Setting proper From: lines
I'm not quite sure if this is an Exim issue or a MUA (Mutt) issue, but... here goes: I have a machine that is both my workstation and the Mail Exchanger for my domain (isomerica.net). Mail sent to [EMAIL PROTECTED] works fine, however, mail sent from the host is instead tagged with the full hostname (From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]) instead of the preferred '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' form. Is this an Exim issue (i did use isomerica.net as the 'outgoing mail name' during the Exim configuration) or if this is a Mutt issue. Actually, a 486 is surprisingly capable. I manage a small switched fast ethernet network of debian machines, consisting of a fast application server/workstation machine (Athlon 800) and a 3 486's and low end pentiums as X stations (with 'X --query fooserver'). With the switched network the performance is incredible and is nearly transparent to the user. Also, my site (http://isomerica.net) performs quite a few tasks including mail server, web server, mysql server, stereo :), and more i can't think of at the moment. This machine is only a pentium 133. Goes to show that linux can surely save an old machine from the dump. You need to set non-US.debian.org as a package source (or manually download the packages and install them) if you want access to the cryptographic packages. Personally, i would recommend getting GnuPG instead, as it is(IMHO) slightly better.
