Also it shows alot of companys (atleast the idea is to show companys) That linux is good for many uses. As for the source code issue. Re: GeForce3 Card
Hey, Your going to want to upgrade to the newest X through debian. Then from there you need to download the latest nvidia drivers from www.nvidia.com. Or you can use the standard nv drivers from the latest version of X (but then you won't have 3d). The nvidia drivers from nvidia consist of a kernel modules, and a GLX package. Then you need to setup your XF86Config-4 file. If you need a sample one, mail me privatly, and I will send you mine. Hope this helps. I was wondering if anyone was having problems with 2.4.10? On a UP machine or SMP machine. Re: /etc/rc.d/rc.local under Debian?
You can do two things (if I'm wrong someone smack me) You can either make a small bash script in /etc/init.d and then add it to the end of /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh Or the easiest thing to do would be to add your lines into /etc/network/interfaces That file controls all of the networking IP's and such. Re: xserver-xfree86 (4.0.2-7) freezing during install
It might be helpful to go to http://dri.sourceforge.net. They have a resources page which has a generic X config file for the Rage card (and I believe it is an X4 config file). If you download that, it will prolly just need some minor changes, but its a good place to start. Re: Sawfish
Sawfish by default, will just have the standard X background. If you middle mouse click or right click (I forget which) you should get a menu up. The other option is to edit your .xinitrc exec gnome-session that will start up gnome+sawfish. Or you can just keep it as sawfish and configure it with like I said the middle mouse button or right mouse button. Re: **NVIDIA driver petition**
If I remember correctly when I was out there .. what prevents them from open sourcing it, is the OpenGL code they use in their drivers. Something with the OpenGL code, and something with SGI (If memory serves me right). I have a few good friends at nvidia .. and I know they are trying hard to make their drivers open source .. and to support the linux community better, its just gonna take some time. Re: **NVIDIA driver petition**
Has anyone stopped to think that maybe nvidia can't open source their drivers? I know for a fact they can't because of certain things, that if anyone has paid attention to game boards or interviews, restrict them from open sourcing their code. I personally would love to see their 4.0 drivers released as open source, and I know they are trying to one day reach that goal, but for right now like I said. They can't open source them. I have 4 machines running debian, 3 of them all have the same domain name (nuthouse.org) now one of them is the main www.nuthouse.org, and the other 2 are just hosts. I just want to make sure for my own benefit that you are using the nvidia glx stuff? as well as the nvidia kernel module correct?
